well, if you want to know how tall someone really is, barefoot is the measurement for comparing folks. takes the shoe lift effect out. what's to prevent someone from wearing shoes with a 3in sole
It’s more important to have a taller reach than height. A long neck is not as helpful as long arms.

It’s all relative when everyone is increasing their height by 1.5 inches, isn’t it?
Hard to say but we switched Tennis coaches during my tenure and Marshall was all book so 6’2” was my tennis heigh while being 6’1 without.

I’m with the group that believes Tom Moore and staff will make the rebounding work. I’m also with the group that believes rebounding is mostly about size and strength first, along with proximity to the basket when the shots go up. Looking at all time NBA rebounding and all time NCAA rebounding leaders, there’s not a guard in the top 25 of either list. John Stockton had heart and desire, yet doesn’t make the list’s top 250 despite being #5 in games played. Hunger and technique are important too, but let’s be realistic
Historically (Calhoun, Hurley) our guards do not leak out. They tend to pick up rebounds on long shots that carom out to the foul line area or further and often start a break directly from there (no outlet pass) but they will also find lanes and open spots to get in close and pick up boards. It has amazed me over the years because it is not normative as you say but you can look it up that we are usually in the top 10 nationally in rebounding. One of the reason we have had great guard play over the years.

Early and just a hunch but I think we are going to luv this kid. Like his confidence and getting tons of experience playing with older guys. Along with are other recruits can't wait to see them play and we are just beginning this season, great times being a husky fan.

My prediction is that he might end up being the best player from this recruiting class. He does a lot of things instinctively that cannot be taught. Couple that with being here, being coached up, and improving his conditioning and he has all the makings of an outstanding player.

It's faintly ridiculous to think height with shoes is given in order to be more accurate about real size while playing.
FIBA gives Furphy's height as 6'4", less than 6'6", but more than Spencer and Newton, both 6'3" at the combine.

Hurley thinks so too.

Furph's gonna be a fan favorite. He's going to be someone that UConn Nation is going to fall in love with. His toughness, his competitiveness, his skill and his mentality…he's a dog."
