Ma che diavolo! Mi sono dimenticato di quasi tutto,
anche quella parola che hai scritto. Sei sicuro che non sia portoghese o spagnolo?

I am frequently perplexed by what people mean by athletic on this forum. But I’ll try to figure it out. Somehow folks have got this notion that UConn has mediocre athletes and just has a bunch soft shooters. Perhaps they mean some combination of strength speed and balance, maybe coordination and stamina. Should we also include sharp eyes and strong hands? Leaping ability? Maybe court vision, or should that be excluded? Or do we merely mean players who push and shove and commit hard fouls?

If these are the relevant qualities that make up athleticism, then I think a close look at our roster would reveal that we are stocked with athletes as much as any team in D1.

Does anyone seriously think Ash is not athletic? Or Azzi? Or Sarah? Obviously Paige is super athletic. Ice and Jana, who are as strong as any bigs? KK? Morgan? Should I leave Aubrey Caroline and Ayanna off the list because injuries have eclipsed all or part of their season?

Let’s compare them to a team routinely called athletic: SC. Who exactly are the athletes on SC. Joyce, obviously, and Raven, Feagin, Malaysia, Te’Hina, Bree, Chloe. A quick perusal of this list should make it clear that they are not uniformly more athletic than the Huskies. Would anyone seriously think Chloe is quicker or stronger (ie more athletic) than Sarah Morgan or Aubrey? She’s an excellent scorer and passer, to be sure. But more athletic? Do a similar comparison between Te’Hina or Bree and say Azzi or Ash. In this case the athletic honors would have to got to UConn.

We can go down the two rosters and we’ll find that they are very similar from the point of view of athleticism. Some players on SC are clearly more athletic than the corresponding player on UConn, and some Guskies are clearly more athletic.

I’m not trying to suggest that SC is not a great team. But their greatness is not simply a function of athleticism. It’s also, and maybe mostly a function of their depth of experience playing in Dawn’s system.
I agree.. Uconn loves talent, but love athleticism more. A quick example of this is Mama Stef. When she came to Uconn, Stef didn't have not one athleticism bone in her body. By the end of her sophomore year, that was fixed right up. Stef needed to get more fit and athleticism in order to be in that Uconn line up. For instance, I don't think Beers from Oklahoma is more athletic than Jana. However, her skill sets down low are suffice for beers to dominate down below. If Jana uses her athleticism and makes beers run after her and chase her down, this will impact the Beers offensively because she is tired of just trying to guard Jana. I believe in tonight's game, Jana will be the difference maker, if not, Ice.

.-.
All I can say is what a talent. She looks very athletic, quick, has all the moves, plays great defense, can handle the ball like a guard.
Im dreaming of her playing with a much improved Jana and Ice.
Im dreaming of her playing with Sarah
Im dreaming of her playing with Azzi
Im dreaming of her playing with the Terror Twins .

Im really dreamin Big

What is happening here? What does UConn have here? She looks like the only freshman player who will start her college career as a senior. If she plays anything like she looks on that mix tape, how high will her ceiling be?

Awak Kuier - a 24 year old 6-6 F on the Dallas Wings, member of the Finnish National Team
Matilde Villa - G for the Atlanta Dream
Que Morrison - 2021 graduate from Georgia, an All SEC player
well, you get the idea

IMO her ceiling is similar to Strong's. They look different doing it but their skillsets, hands, anticipation, and feel for the game/concepts are actually very similar. Like Strong was last year, BQ is about a year or two ahead of most HS players. The best part is that they could possibly play and grow together for 3 years at UConn.

Highlights + Box Score match of March 27, 2025

This is the last match of the regular season for the Blanca team. Campobasso finished the regular season in third place, with a record of 14-6, but in their final game of the regular season they lost 59-51 to Umana Reyer Venezia, who finished in second place. The end-of-season series begins for the Blanca team on Tuesday, April 2, against Geas Sesto San Giovani, who finished 6th with a 10-10 record. Eight teams out of 11 are taking part in the playoffs, which, depending on the schedule, are two of three series.

I’m shocked that one of those great “scouting services “ didn’t find her for one of those other schools that consistently outrecruit UConn. ;)
Wow my favorite subject!

This one was found hiding in the Italian first Division pro league.

I'm joking, but I've never claimed anyone out recruits UConn. SC has certainly made things competitive, and USC/UCLA/LSU and OK are newcomers in the $$$ era.
Competition is good. These sweet 16, elite 8 games are great for WBB????

UConn still best recruits, and may even still wind up with best 24/25 class over time.

Nobody else rolls out 3 USA #1 recruits, an Ivy League player of the year, and the Queen of D'Nile right now either.

Next year, it's 2 x #1, the Queen, and a big pool of top 15 players, (Caroline, KK, Ash, Morgan, Allie, Ice, Ayana) plus new freshmen. So another year at top of 'talent heap'.

Can we get Blanca and the game announcer as a package? I love his enthusiasm!!! He is game-only! No biographical blah-blah. Put him in the booth with Rebecca. I would take him over Ruocco any day - even if he speaks Italian!

Blanca is really good and athletic. She needs to adjust to stricter coaching

As the emoji implies, I don’t think anyone is recruiting any better than UConn either. You may have missed the threads where people are complaining that UConn’s recruiting has slipped because they don’t get every top player. It also emphasizes my point that those websites aren’t finding top players for any top schools since they had no idea who Quinones is. As I’ve said, programs at the level of UConn find their own. Close at UCLA has a kid from Croatia coming in this fall named Lena Bilic who is outstanding. If these top coaches are finding this kind of talent around the world, they certainly don’t need any help finding it here in the US.

Ha, I thought your comment was directed to me, because I'm always chirping that the best recruits are not hard to find.

I've been watching LSU press conferences and 'took it personal'

Don't worry though, we are all definitely pulling for the same Huskies.

Back to thread, Blanca is a great add! What is exciting, other than Geno's Italian, is we really move now from the thin injured rosters of recent years to a recent SC/Stanford type situation of having pools of frontcourt and backcourt players. Knock on wood.

Sure we lose great seniors, but also have hungry, developing kids eager to step up.

Specifically, SC has a pool of Kitts, Feagin, Watkins, Edwards, Dauda. We now counter with our own pool of Jana, Ice, Sarah, Ayana, Blanca & Gandy.

I am a little nervous about foreign players. With valid visas being revoked and some of the tactics being used, I wonder if all the foreign players will feel comfortable coming to the USA to play.
Yes, it’s a concern in the world we live in. Fortunately, UConn, as well as the state of CT, has been a wonderful, welcoming location for foreign born players. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Blanca and Geno can converse in Italian and we are talking about the Basketball Capital of the World! ;)

First playoff game (highlights + Box Score)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duckrgl7ewldg
First playoff game for Blanca, first win for her and her Campobasso team 70-67. Despite her 14 points and 33:30 of playing time, I'd say it was a pretty average game for her (see Box Score). However, we can still see the full extent of her talent when she attacks the basket, her speed of execution and finishing in those moments are impressive. Next game, April 6, Campobasso leads the series 2/3 1-0.

As you might know = Lena Bilic and "THE BIG O" were the dynamic
duo on one of the FIBA CROATIAN National Teams. Both were GREAT. I
believe BILIC is 6'2" (kind of a Croatian version of Morgan Cheli). My only
concern when I saw that BILIC was going to UCLA was that Geno
could lose Olivia Vukosa to UCLA... I don't think so, but it did cross my mind.

Always a possibility.....UCLA is bringing in the next Betts sister who's a hybrid forward/post so they are covered up front but who wouldn't want the Big "O".......
