It’s UConn/USC on Thursday

Hate that every single game this season will be tentative right up to the second of the tip-off.

Reminds me of the AAC tournament. Was all set to watch and then...poof. At least they didn't cancel it mid-game as others did.

I am not irate at missing one of the games. If hurley really feels the kids need more time in practice to perform their best I don’t have a big problem with it. People saying trust the carpenter all off-season need to do the same now.

I agree with this even tho I’m disappointed no game tmrw. However I was also thinking of it as we should try to squeeze in as many games as we can because you never know how things are going to look in January and you know damn well there’s going to be probably two or three times this year during the season where UConn is going to probably have to take some time off due to Covid. Soooooo it’s a balancing act - do you want to get in some more practices or do you want to make sure you fill your schedule so u qualify? Tuff
I’m normally in the camp of playing games. But A two week lay off for college students players is a long time. We’ve seen that layoff impact nfl players, so it’s even more heightened for college athletes. If the shut down didn’t happen, they’d prolly look to be more aggressive. At this point, Hurleys proven to be a good leader and has a good pulse of the team. I’m fine with whatever direction he feels is best.

Both Mobley's in the front court. We may get to see Sanogo at the 5 and Whaley at the 4 against Evan Mobley 6'11 and Isaiah Mobley 6'10.

Big practice week for Carlton knowing we could play a bigger frontcourt on Thursday.
I’m now confident that we can matchup with this type of team. Didn’t feel that way a couple years ago

Did they get rid of the 1 team per conference rule for pre-season tournaments this year? If they didn’t then we couldn’t play in a tournament with St. John’s.
All rules are thrown out of the window in this era. Hell Villanova lives at a casino waiting for teams to accept their challenge.

BYU could end up being a better opponent (for tourney/NET/KenPom/RPI purposes) than USC when all is said and done. But just happy to play any games.

There's no doubt BYU is going to be a better metric opponent than USC. Definitely a scheduling miss taking USC over BYU. I think Hurley would learn a lot more about his team against a borderline top 25 BYU team than we will against USC.

Why are people assuming this was our choice? This wasn't a game we controlled, it was a tournament we signed up to play in. Almost certainly, the Tourney is telling us what will happen and they are taking orders from the entity funding the Tournament -- ESPN.

Thursday is best. After listening to Hurley's comments after CCSU, it's clear he felt his team needed a week of practice after the two-week quarantine shut down. In fact he urged that it be legislated. There is no way that he was ready to accept another opponent - that he cannot prepare for - when Vanderbilt bailed out at the last minute.

Hurley is an analyzer and the last thing he wants is some stupid, ugly loss - because his team is ill-prepared - that may effect its ability to get in the real tourney. Before you think one loss here wouldn't yield that consequence, consider that it is a real prossibity that UCONN loses several games to Big East opponents.

They’ll be more than ready to play on Thursday. Hurley must be very happy to get time back while still avoiding a mid major loss.

At least this guarantees we play USC and the Mobley brothers. That will be a fun game to watch (hopefully). Let’s see if we’ll be able to match up with two all star big men, a year or two ago we would’ve gotten taken to town... Now we might even have the size advantage on them

Not sure why you think that, USC is 59 in KenPom and BYU is 80. And USC will have way more opportunities for good games to keep that ranking up

I’m honestly surprised USC is so low on everyone’s list. Don’t know much about them other than the Mobley brothers and Eady, but would think with those 3 they’d give the weak PAC12 a run

I’d agree with you if it were last season. Being in the Big East gives you the luxury to take lesser games. Playing Nova and Creighton and Seton Hall makes up for one game against USC instead of BYU

I don't view playing USC as the lesser game though which was my point. I'd way rather play them over BYU, I think it's a bigger challenge

Ill just take a game against a legit opponent. we will finally have a rough idea of how good this team is.

Wonder how much gambling... I mean meal money they get each day.

I agree we were most linens steered to okay someone. And why would Hurley, after missing 2 weeks of practice and witnessing the last 2 games, necessarily want to hold out to play the best competition with what lies ahead?
