It's the tourney.

Just remember, you can lose the first game round of 64 against St. Joseph's, or you can win that game on a mini-miracle and then go all the way to the final and win the national championship.

"This is why they play the games."
Gentle reminder that that St Joes team did have 2 NBA guys on it.

That team couldn’t catch a break even in the first round lol

Plus probably our best on-ball defender (Diarra) is playing on 1 good leg, which doesn't help anything.
Diarra even when completely healthy can't solve our team defensive problems all by himself anyways. But it sure can help.

This is completely indistinguishable from every other press availability he does. We’re really searching for reasons to be miserable here.
He touched his hat and moved it around a ton the first 10 seconds of the video and then kept his hands in front of him for the rest of the 15 minutes. He usually touches his face and he didn't touch his face at all. That was some of the most concerning body language I've ever seen.

Are you some body language expert? Seriously asking.

Our biggest issue is our team defense. Allowing open 3s and at will penetration layup lines.

Our next biggest issue is LM continuing to take low % in the lane shots when he is having an off night. Simply he needs to stop shooting.

If we are going to go out in flames, i want AK pulling the 2-15 shooting night, not the freshman.

Maybe - I'm over it. Was hoping to get pumped up at least a little, after watching 25 rooms of players/coaches jumping out of their seats all day getting their bid during one of the most exciting days of the college hoops season. Perhaps all just part of what a hangover year feels like.

I'm not sure why any rational human being would think they can fix a 5 month issue in 5 days. The best coach thing is funny, he's not even the best coach in our conference.
Agree about fixing the 5 month issue and Pitino is a good coach but our team is a mostly recruits and a few transfers. Pitino robbed the best player from Seton Hall in his conference Richmond and spent 4 million dollars to be a great coach this year. They played 8 players against Creighton and only Witcher had not come from another team.
Is that the new model? I don’t know but there are a lot of deep pockets in NY to buy him players. Does that make him better than Hurley?

Let's see, Bill Self, two time champion, has one of the deepest portal bags out there - how did he do? Indiana spent a boatload in the portal, how did they do? Kansas St? It's not as easy as buying a team. You have to pick the right ones, develop them into your system and have them buy in.

To discredit what Pitino's accomplished is going out of your way to find reason he's not a great coach. Pitting him against Hurley is not worth the conversation as he's got 20 more years on him. Let's see how it all plays out and be more secure as a fan base.

I saw them play a bunch this year, including the Atlantis games. They peaked very early. My biggest concern is the FT issue. They live at the line, and they shoot it well from there.

I think this is a game where Reed could cause them a lot of problems. In terms of the teams we could have faced as a 9, I think we did ok here.
OK, indeed...

Hurley didn't jump up and down or even scream the entire 15 minutes. It was incredibly disappointing.

Yes of course Rick Pitino is a better coach than Dan Hurley. If you could create a scenario where they had the exact same rosters and played thousands of times, Rick would win over 50%, against Dan Hurley and against basically every coach ever. Maybe not Calhoun.

You want Pitino, you get everything that comes with it. Why was he coaching at Iona in his 60s, again?

I was hoping for a moonwalk into the worm personally.

The guy looked like someone just shot his dog after he just came back from a funeral - and the constant laugh after a question felt unusually awkward in this one.

Could be nothing, could be a subconscious admission that this team doesn't have it to make any noise, so be ready for that reality people.

Where did I say I wanted Pitino? He's just obviously a better coach.

It’s not healthy for him or the team to be that depressed over making the tournament as an 8th seed.

Gotta get a grip. Making the tournament is something the program and players should enjoy no matter what. Can’t be a sore loser out here and a talk the most ish possible as a winner.

Press conferences aren't necessarily fun for a coach. Being asked the same stupid questions a hundred different ways and being expected to provide insightful answers. Is Danny supposed to know that Pitino was entertaining in his press conference and that some nutcase on the boneyard is in love with all things St Johns and that he needs Danny to outdo Pitino's performance?

For all we know, maybe Oklahoma does too.

The point is, you can out in the 1st rd or you can survive and advance.

I look at the play-in games as a huge advantage. One of UNC/Texas/Marquette/Xavier is about to make a big run. One of these teams will be in the Sweet 16 and 50/50 Elite 8.

Ok? He's the second best coach in the BE at worst and 2nd only to a future hall of famer whose had an extra two decades of coaching. Give Hurley one more decade and he'll surpass Pitino.

Danny and Luke thrive in the tournament setup. This would be a perfect time to play Samson and Tarris together and get them in foul trouble. People forget how smart Luke and Danny are especially in March. I see you Purdue and Zach Eddy. We are a good enough team that we can make others adjust to us. Even Florida. They may beat us 90 out of a100 times. Who cares. This one game is all that matters . it’s our staff vs theirs. advantage UConn. Let’s go!

Pitino a better coach than Dan Hurley: STUPID comment. Can we compare careers when Dan Hurley is done? Because if you evaluate the here and now, Dan Hurley has built a PROGRAM that has won back to back titles with a top 5 class coming next year, whereas Mr. Pitino built a solid team for one year (remember they sucked last year). Easy with the gas lighting.

Matchup vs. OU: I think there is enough data here that both sides can claim to be in the correct side. If OU draws a bunch of fouls with smaller guards, that certainly sucks for us. If they make their FT's, well that sucks even more. However, if they are that small, we should feast in the boards and we should block a bunch of shots. And again, remember we have shooters too. The one thing that has not been said here yet: Aidan will not be outmuscled. in this matchup. He should be able to contribute meaningfully.

Tourney outlook: Who the heck knows!!!! I was truly shocked watching the Creighton game. I frankly could not believe that we regressed like that, on both sides of the ball. But then, you watch the last 12 minutes and you are come away thinking that UConn is scare when they can make a comeback like that without their top two scorers contributing. I would not bet that UConn makes a long run (if I were a betting man). But I also would not bet that UConn will not catch fire and shock everybody (Sunday included).

There is a world where Creighton taught this team valuable lessons. There is also a world where this Creighton game is par for the course for this team. We shall see. I am still picking us to win these two games.

Gameplan being the only team in the country that could guard Eddy one on one because we had Clingan. Lol
