True, but that UConn team never gave up 75% shooting to an opponent in a single half. Let’s revisit this next week. I hope you’re right
For some reason, first half’s have been a problem with this team. UConn has to bring the intensity early against Oklahoma or they won’t get out of the first round.

In the second half, UConn held Creighton to 29% (btw, Creighton shot 43% against St John’s) & that’s the defensive effort they need to show up with at the start.

In that interview Hurley did not sound confident that he could fix the defensive issues. He used the word if a lot. My question is when they watched the films of the Creighton game which Hurley said was painful were the problems from not doing what we were supposed to do or that we were not physically capable of it?
The 75% and the 29% defensive difference in the halves may make it seem obvious we could have prevented it but I am not so sure.
Seems like he is saying again as he has all year that he just doesn’t have what he needs.

Going into this tournament we have the best coach, and the best coaching staff who are the best at game planning and preparation with tons of experience. They will leave no stone unturned.

Tennessee's slow pace is just so very different than UConn's slow pace, even if the end result is a similar number of possessions per 40.

I will say, after going through the UK / Oklahoma games, I don't see the same level of hand checking/grabbing defense UConn saw in the BE. They are quick though on defense but can get lost on rotations. It's not SJU/Marquette who will maul you to get a steal. Or at least that isn't what I've seen so far.
Keen to see the reffing effect in the first game to understand just how disadvantaged we’ve been in the BE. Totally agree with the StJ/Marquette view. Our offense will be an advantage.

Thank you - felt very protective to the potential disappointment.

We can beat anyone and also lose to anyone in this field. The problem is we haven't put together a good five game streak all season. We depend too much on guys making outside shots. Not a ton of inside or midrange scoring and you know we don't get a lot of foul shots. We had the Dream Season. How about a Miracle Season?
Would love another Miracle year - the first one was the Kemba run

I'm not sure why any rational human being would think they can fix a 5 month issue in 5 days. The best coach thing is funny, he's not even the best coach in our conference.

Throw metrics out the window. Make shots and play defense.

He's looking toward next season and addressing flaws. He'll try to patch it up as best possible, but he knows we're dead when we meet a great three point shooting team. You can't make chicken soup out of chicken....well, you know the rest.

We don't have the athletes and the personel to play elite defense.

We certainly have the horses to play good solid mediocre defense. And that is what is frustrating about this team all year.

Very true play the type of defense you are capable of and this team wins 3- 5 more games. This team has the capability to be better than they are on defense and it shows at times. The problem is the effort is only there for 10-15 minutes a game.

Plus probably our best on-ball defender (Diarra) is playing on 1 good leg, which doesn't help anything.

It's the tourney.

Just remember, you can lose the first game round of 64 against St. Joseph's, or you can win that game on a mini-miracle and then go all the way to the final and win the national championship.

"This is why they play the games."

Some thoughts.
  • Can we stop calling them OK please? It's OU. UConn isn't CT
  • OU sucks. 6-12 in conference is bad. Shouldn't be in the tournament at all. Boise and WVU both better (so is UNC)
  • The 8/9 games are bizarre. Duke gets a cakewalk against two crappy teams. Florida has to deal with UConn. Auburn, supposedly #1 overall (why?) gets two 8/9 teams that can both beat them, including the most under-seeded team in the tournament Louisville (near their campus). Houston, like Florida has one good team, one bad one.
  • ESPN analytics give UConn a 70% chance of winning. Gonzaga is similar.
  • Someone said OU was good OOC. They did manage to beat PC by 2. Michigan by 1. Louisville before they were playing well.
  • When OU played legit teams in the SEC (Auburn, Bama, Florida and Tennessee) they regularly got blown out by around 20+ Even Mizzou blew them out.
Edit: that was an unexpected autocorrect

They miss Pitino more than I thought

Man, what database do we get the analytics for which teams are most undersexed?? :D

One of the more hysterical typos I've seen in awhile. I'm just trying to understand what the solution is.
