This is completely indistinguishable from every other press availability he does. We’re really searching for reasons to be miserable here.
Oh the hyperbole. No one is searching for misery. Stop being such a drama queen.

Would have loved an inkling of a more spirited vibe, instead lots of talk about how bad the defense is and that we are young and not physical. Yeah we know Dan, so what are we gonna do about it? We aren’t getting older and bigger in the next 4 days.

Digging a little further...

Interesting that OK allows nearly 25 3pt attempts/game (#288). I'm sure some of this is a product of their competition in the SEC with the run-n-gun pace of many teams.

They are #23 in Opp 3pt % (30.5%). Some of this is because there are actually some pretty lousy 3pt shooting teams in the SEC (SC, LSU, Vandy, TXAM, Ark, MSST are all well below-avg 3pt shooting teams in the 30-33% range).

We should be looking at lots of Tennessee tape to see how their slower pace impacted outcomes in the SEC. I know they do a lot more of it defensively but key is taking these teams that run up and down all year out of rythym and not letting them catch streaks of momentum.

I didn't notice him being any different than all the other media availabilities. I guess I'm not very perceptive.
Could just be tired or not revealing too much. Nothing to read into, just would have thought bracket day would incite a little more enthusiasm.

With you - I think we match up pretty well in this one. They play small. As a comparison they may feel a little like Xavier. They are a terrible rebounding team. If we can keep pace on our side, leverage our size inside and play our game, stay decent defensively on the perimeter, it’s a very winnable game. If they run out and we let their guards loose, could be a loss. This is the kind of game I think we can push our style.
Totally agree. UConn has hit the boards hard and should have the rebounding and interior advantage. Pound the ball into Reed and let Diarra try to take on Fears. Key in the game will be Diarra not getting into found trouble. They are a bit Xavier light, as they don't have bigger guards Xavier can roll out. They are a bit like Georgetown in the backcourt in terms of size. I mean I look a them in game against the better teams in that league and with the exception of Kentucky, who I don't think is great, they got absolutely pummeled by any of the heavy weight teams. UConn will need to come and play like they did against Marquette, going hard from the start. They do that, the should pull away. Speaking of Xavier, they got Texas in the play-in game. That should give us a gauge on how good the bottom of the SEC is.

Our only chance with Florida would be to slow it down to about glacial pace as possible, and try to pull the whole execute our sets approach to 25 seconds and try to numb them into a stupor. Take as many tips from their loss against Tennessee as we can.

Man for man straight up at a high pace they would throttle us.

And for the fanboy comment - I was calling them out months ago and they just ran through the best conference tourney in hoops. When you actually watch teams and appreciate great players and teams, you learn a lot.
Agree. That's a game where our offensive scheme of moving off screens and running shot clock can work to our advantage. Florida is not rugged inside, so Reed could have a big game if we can feed him the rock. Also, they are big in the backcourt either, so on offense guys should be able to get looks. Gotta work clock and get them frustrated. That's how you beat them.

Fears is a nightmare. If Hass gets in foul trouble we will have a major issue. They have like 3 combo guards thst can all dribble drive. Tough cover matchup for our perimeter defenders.
.
True, but you gotta make them work on the defensive end of the floor. McNeeley should be able to use his height against their smaller guards. I agree on Diarra. He has to stay away from silly fouls. Still, Oklahoma was pummeled by Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Missouri. They regularly lost games against the top end of the SEC by 20 and struggled to beat Michigan, Louisville, and Providence non-conference. They were 1-1 v. Texas and both games were very close. Fears is very good, but that team is not great. UConn should be favored in the game, they can certainly lose, but if both teams show up with their A games, UConn will win likely going away.

It’s not your lack of perception. It’s people reading way too much into 15 meaningless minutes.
I thought Dan looked and sounded fine. Seemed jovial to me.

ESPN has UConn as having 70% chance for win over Oklahoma. So, we have a chance but need to take care of business.

I watched OU the other night, they didn't appear to be anything we couldn't match up against. As far as having to possibly play FL game 2, look if the goal is another Natty and it should be until it isn't then we would have to beat a team of that caliber at some point so you are either good enough to repeat again or not - and if so you get by Florida.

Counterpoint. When they were beating Michigan and Louisville early on, we were losing to Colorado and Dayton. Florida, Auburn amd Alabama would pummel us too. They played in the SEC which was a gaunlet every single game. They are battle tested against the best teams in country. It's an 8-9 game. Show up like we did against Creighton and we will checking out early. Need to play better defense. On the positive side, the lack of familiarity with our offense should help. How it's officiated will be big and so will our 3 point shooting. Need Solo, Alex and Liam to hit some shots. I'm a massive Husky fan and will be rabid come gametime, but I am realistic about this teams vulnerabilities and capabilities. There isn't a team below the 14 seed line that would be anything close to a gimme for us if we didn't play hard and play well.

Tennessee's slow pace is just so very different than UConn's slow pace, even if the end result is a similar number of possessions per 40.

I will say, after going through the UK / Oklahoma games, I don't see the same level of hand checking/grabbing defense UConn saw in the BE. They are quick though on defense but can get lost on rotations. It's not SJU/Marquette who will maul you to get a steal. Or at least that isn't what I've seen so far.

Lol no. Doomed! This is about as easy a draw as we could have hoped for. We got the weakest 1 and a 9 that’s on fumes after getting annihilated in the SEC.
It's nice to think positively, but Fears has the moxie and athletic ability to make us look really inept on defense and we've seen enough this year to know one guy having a great game can beat us.

Would love to throw some Zone at the Sooners (I know it won't happen) but I think we will have trouble stopping dribble penetration against this team.
I like it. How about breaking out the Double Bigs at them?

I saw them play a bunch this year, including the Atlantis games. They peaked very early. My biggest concern is the FT issue. They live at the line, and they shoot it well from there.

I think this is a game where Reed could cause them a lot of problems. In terms of the teams we could have faced as a 9, I think we did ok here.

Not quite. In 2014 we had the quick guards and they had the powerful center and forwards.

I don't know. UF would give UConn fits when on offense but they had some real trouble defending UT's off ball movement and UT's off ball movement is pretty bad compared to UConn's. Neither here nor there. OK first.
