How refreshing to read the measured optimism of Durks07. As for his comment about GDL and the O Line, here's what we know. The O Line was, shall we say, less than stellar last season. During the year I heard from several player parents who absolutely castigated GDL for his boorish demeanor (one livid parent called me while I was at a meeting in Montana to complain). On the other hand, I heard from others who sheepishly questioned the inate ability of several of the O line players. Yet another parent mentioned how despite GDL's atrocious play calling, his acumen at positional coaching had made his son a better player from a technique standpoint. So, to sum it up, GDL seems to have some saving grace as a position coach--especially when he has talent to work with, lol. Stripped of his mad scientist role as OC ( "Now that we're really moving the ball--it's Wildcat time!") and without other distractions (avoiding all the rotten tomatoes during Husky Walk) GDL may prove to be useful (servicable) in his new role. The fact remains that PP protects GDL's backside--for whatever reason. Thus, the key element will be just how skillful at politics TJ Weist is. His ability to convince PP to endorse his autonomy and keep GDL from meddling will be critical to whether all the gears can mesh. PP knows that WM will be "monitering" the coaching interactions. All of that will be sorted out later but, in the meantime, in the face of so much negativity, Durks07 was a welcome read this morning.
uggh!) But he believes in a high pressure defensive strategy as well, and nobody seems to credit him with helping to create a 180-degree reversal of the Edsall "bend, don't break" philosophy; a reversal that helped make us one of the top defenses in the country. Nobody seems to credit him with the highest rated recruiting class (on paper) that we have ever had here.
