Iowa

Question for Hawk fans. Addie Deal seems to be having trouble getting minutes, not something I expected from a #18 ranked recruit. Is she struggling or are the other guards just beating her out?
In my opinion she's skillful but not athletic. The step up in speed of the game I feel has bothered her. At 1st she committed lots of turnovers, but that's getting better. Avoiding turnovers might be making her more hesitant in getting off her shot before she's contested. Ultimately I think she's going to be a very good player for us.

She’s bigger than I realized. I have no doubt she’ll be fine. She can shoot the ball, and those players tend to find their way onto the floor.

If you're referring to Chit-Chat Wright, I'm not sure how she's the only guard that's being highlighted with respect to Iowa's backcourt play. She had 13 points in the first half, which helped keep Iowa in the game at the half.e ball in her hands most of the time and McCabe and Feuerbach also had their challenges against ISU, including the last few plays in the game when they were down by 3.
Because she was the primary ball handler at guard. Had the ball in her hands most of the time. Too much dribbling combined with overall lack of movement by Iowa offense looking at entire game.

I saw the same things as the rest of you — slow pace, lots of turnovers and missed layups, stagnant offenses, and not enough zone. I mean, if your opponent has a dominant post and suspect guard play, why wouldn’t you rely on a zone and make the guards beat you?

And the pace of play thing really dumbfounded me. Audi is a significant liability on defense. By slow walking the offense Iowa essentially let Fennelly off the hook for that. He was able to play her for most of the game. Is Iowa unable to generate any transition offense? Stuelke runs the floor really well — just build a transition game around her.

... any topic about our women's sports typically devolves into hating on Coach Staley's political opinions or complaining about dollars spent on our women's sports taking away from our men's sports being competitive.
Dawn could let Cocky run PG for 40 minutes and the lightest 'that was a surprising decision' would be swamped with "I guess YOU could coach better, huh? How many Final Fours have you been to?!?"

You can't talk about WBB on the main Carolina forums because of two diametrically opposed lunatic camps.

Actually, I am a general women's basketball fan, with season tickets (and hence a rooting interest) in Arizona. Before moving west it was Rutgers and we followed them more closely before Vivian retired. It was as a Rutgers fan as I first came to the Boneyard back several iterations ago, when Fishy was still doing regular recaps on the men's side and he had his first child - at least that's how I date it. I would think north of 20 years, but could be wrong.

I watch parts of most TV games, all of some. I rarely invoke streaming services, although I have them. I can't follow everyone in detail, so I aim for staying up on WBB in a general way. Many of the threads are just too time consuming to try and plow through.

As to your comments regarding fans of specific programs, there are a lot of them. I know it isn't WBB but I can illustrate - Rutgers had gotten decent in Volleyball and actually had a fan club (all very briefly, somewhere around 2000 maybe) and my wife offered to bring a video of the last year's Final Four highlights and the consensus was "why would we want to see that?". Not volleyball fans, just Rutgers fans. It carries over to WBB.

And finally, as to Iowa and Iowa State - I know they are both having excellent seasons. I know Audi Crooks and Jada Williams. I recognize the names of Iowa players when I hear them. I'm a coach person, know Jenson has done very well following Lisa Bluder and of course Iowa State has Bill Fennelly. We (Rutgers) came to Ames in the NCAA's in 1998 (we were there) and beat Iowa State to advance in the NCAA's. Place was packed, early in his career. He was not happy. Vivian was.
You’ve been visiting the Boneyard for at least 25 years. I “met” you on Rutgersfan.com about then

Diana D and I are still friends on Facebook

Crooks is quite skilled. Much more than a big body. Hope the casual fans took note of that.

Addy Brown has a very complete game and Jada Williams looked much better than she ever did under Adia Barnes. I think Mark Campbell is a better coach than Bill Fennelly so I’m picking TCU to win the conference, but Crooks looks like the clear player of the year so far.

I still like Iowa a lot overall. The issue I see is that it’s entirely a team of role players and there’s no Gustafson, Clark, or Lucy Olsen. I think they’re definitely a year away (maybe two), but I like what Chit Chat Wright brings and I’m a big fan of Jan Jensen and her player development.

Fun game overall.

Forgot to give the Hawk fans a "good luck" for Big Ten play. Well, except for when they play my local Gophers.

Hawks conference schedule is tough, especially an eight game stretch of seven ranked teams only broken by the unranked but still decent Quad 1 Gophers.

We had five ranked in a row last year including Texas, LSU and Oklahoma we ran it, but it was brutal. Good luck with seven!

Something for the Hawk fans. Popped into my news feed when Skim reposted it.

Iowa with an uninspired, sloppy win vs Northwestern tonight. Looked like a team on the bubble come March.
Many learning moments in this game; we'll see if Coach Jan comes through.

Was watching Unrivaled as I can stream the game on BIG10+ tomorrow. Looking at the box score, Stuelke going 2-11 is surprising. Good thing Heiden had 23 tonight to help cancel out a portion of Sullivan's 28 points.

It also looks like free throws were a huge factor for Iowa. Iowa was 20-29 while Northwestern was 11-14. That's a a crazy differential.

Heiden has developed a fouling fetish. Yes, her 23 points won us the game but in only 18 minutes. In foul trouble the entire contest.

Damn.................imagine if she was able to play for 20+ minutes tonight.

If you could see Hannah's face I'm surprised she could play. Teams are absolutely beating her senseless. Tons of no calls.

Heiden is the real deal. I love her post game (footwork and positioning). I wonder if she was that good coming out of high school and her in her freshmen year. Did Iowa’s coaching staff develop her post game?

No one can convince me that a bug isn't going through the team. Just low energy last night.
