http://www.cleveland.com/livingston/index.ssf/2010/01/if_the_big_ten_does_expand_it.html According to Ohioans, UConn delivers the Northeast television market better than any other school. But the B1G also is creating a hockey conference that will need members. Out of all the schools available, we give them the best shot at adding another hockey program.

I can see the B1G adding three out of the following four schools: Rutgers, UConn, Syracuse, and Maryland. If the SEC adds Mizzou, the B1G can take all four.

More on UConn to the B1G:

"Rating the Big Ten expansion candidates" - Chriss Dodd.

2010 articles....good articles, but...you think it'll be UConn in the B1G??

We have a shot. Propaganda works wonders.

Hartford becoming a B1G city would be huge for the city itself. It's history is buried.

The next person to resurrect a two-year old thread will spend the next 45 days limited to exchanging private messages with HFD.

He's lonely and would appreciate the company.

There is no reason to expand to 55k right now, we've been over this a million times. The demand is not there, and we'll look incredibly stupid expanding a stadium to have a bunch of empty seats.

And for the millionth and first time . . . facilities and an attractive schedule come first then the crowds will follow. Not the reverse. Field of Dreams 101 . . . "if you build it, they will come".

If you're gonna act small time, then you're gonna be perceived as small time and it will negatively affect your recruiting, your schedule, and ultimately the reality of you're program being small time.

Add me to the list that read through this whole thing while never checking the dates.

I've spent/wasted way too many hours on Conference Realignment. It's frightening, actually.

And nothing says "big-time" better than 15,000+ empty seats each week. In a state with a shrinking population and slow-to-no grow economy, why the hell would we add seats that no one is calling for? Attractive scheduling just got harder, not easier with the last rounds of conference moves.

Rutgers added seats no one was calling for and they are in the B10.

And you think that's the reason they got in?? Really? Rutty got in for one reason, their proximity to NYC...and no, ours is not quite the same. Also they have a much larger state population so their expansion risk is not the same as ours. Plus, do you know how many tickets they have to virtually give away each game? Rutty got lucky and lucky is not a great business plan.

The expanded stadium played a role.

Isn't it amazing that the original plans on how the Rent could be expanded have never seen the light of day? Maybe someone could FOI them. Maybe the expansion could be done differently than the originals. Why not at least put them out for public viewing and then the Whaler responsorial pslam about how we have no money to do it? It would at least be a topic of conversation.
