We are miserable. If you’re truly a UConn fan, then so should you. We would get destroyed by just about every team in the FBS. The product we’ve been seeing on the field is embarrassing.

Illinois looked very good. Clearly much better athletes - bigger, faster, stronger. Our LBs will get destroyed. Our DLine will do okay. Run, Run, quick out pass plan will be a disaster. 48-7.

3 tds and 3 missed conversions and a fg?

18 isn’t an easy number to sit on
 
One thing I noticed is Illinois O and D line seem to play angry. Hope our boys are ready to match the intensity. If we can't win the LoS on either side.. early curtains

I have been saying since mid-summer that I thought Illinois could well be one of the Huskies' 3-4 wins this season. Mainly because the Illini are a Lovie Smith team that has under-achieved and they will be playing at the Rent. After Thursday night I am no longer so sure. But I won't give up on UConn just yet. I say it will be an ugly, close, controversial win on a field goal with less than a minute remaining.

Both teams on balance have good defenses, UConn though has the better offensive line. Illinois though has the better QB, at least right now. I do agree that it will be a low scoring game. UConn has a chance but absolutely can't have any turnovers.

Good? Yes, I think so, much better than last year. I think they are good enough and speedy enough to try blitzing a little bit, only problem there is Edsall plays too conservative even when he has the players. Uguak is playing good, so is Travis, Dillon Harris, Kevon, Morgan. I thought Keyshawn Paul played great, Coyle. They miss Thomas though. Spanos still has some work to do though on teaching some of the DB's how to tackle, jarring the ball loose with a helmet hit on short passes and crossing routes. They're better than last year but still need some work. I'm hoping they do well next week, as Illinois's offensive line did not impress me defending Akron's pass rush.

UConn 27 Illinois 24. The Huskies win it on a late turnover. Keep in mind that Caleb Thomas should be back as well as Ardell Brown and Cameron Ross. Some of Beaudry's problem was possibly not having two of his top receivers. Timing is probably tighter with guys you've been throwing to more. And I can't see why the NCAA would want to single out Thomas for punishment once they understand what the situation is.

1 game in versus Wagner is not enough for me to call it good. The numbers suggest a good game but the Wagner QB was not good at all. The D gave up a 55 yard TD. Huge plays like that were common place last year. That Wagner got one is enough for me to hold off on the good declaration.

And a helmet hit will get you called for targeting. You can’t lower your head.

Yes you can, as long as it's not helmet to helmet. If the defender first makes contact with his shoulder and gets his helmet up and under the ball, targeting will not be called.

Leading with crown on any part of the body in targeting. First contact with shoulder is fine.

That's the trick, if you make contact first lower down with the left shoulder you still can use the helmet to pop the ball out when you hit him. Or just hope the ref can't tell from his angle. Lol
 
Illinois 38 UConn 10

Their OL looks mediocre so I think we can get a couple more sacks. Their QB runs and play action passes to their tight end will destroy us though.
