Our family went out to dinner last night and we went to the restaurant via I-84. I tried to merge onto the highway and had trouble getting on due to a caravan of cars and buses. I finally got into the lane when a care bore down onto my bumper. It was a state cop in an unmarked car who eventually put on his flashing lights and made me move into the breakdown lane. The buses and cars went past me, onto I-691 while I was stuck in the breakdown lane waiting for a spot to move back into traffic.

It was the Rutgers football team and its New Jersey state police escort that ran me off the road. I wanted UConn to win before, now I want an embarrassing blowout.

If that happened in Ct, I'm pretty sure that was an abuse of any police powers given to visiting State Police. But alas, they were from New Jersey. Its expected.

Aarrgg! Slam on the brakes and we win by forfeit!!!! That would be the proper ending for the series.

May not make you feel better but you were treated better than they treat their players. At least you didn't get into an accident and are safe.

If it was a state cop, not sure there's much you could do. If it were a Jersey cop, I'm sure you could have ignored it. Hey after UCONN's come back victorty over Temple, anything's possible!!

I watched the Rutgers team arrive to the stadium. They had multiple NJSP cars with them. I have never seen a team travel with an escort of their own. It's usually UCONN PD and the CSP.

Did they not stay in a hotel last night? Did they make the bus trip the same day as the game?

The other interesting thing I saw were the officials in UCONN police cruisers leaving the game.

I don't remember ever seeing so many police dogs in the stadium before. Maybr there was some kind of threat so everyone went overboard on security?

Pretty much standard that the visiting team stays in a hotel the night before a game. Even UCONN stays in a hotel the night before a home game. I know Louisville had a practice at Sportsworld in East Windsor the day before their game.

Also standard for the refs to get a hasty and escorted exit from the stadium in CT state trooper vehicles.

Seeing that the cars said UCONN on the side, that's not true. State employees nonetheless.

It's just that pompous Snookie attitude. I'm glad we kicked their butt but more so your family didn't get injured.

They have no jurisdiction in Connecticut. But had you defied their "order", they might have summoned their buddies at the CT State Police.

Though their rough tactics with HuskyNan was wrong and should be reported, a police officer no matter where he is, always has jurisdiction (sort of, or more correctly a responsibility) no matter where he is. Once a cop, always a cop, and always on duty. He is obligated to protect life and property no matter where he is, AND has absolute arrest powers (including the use of deadly force) in the absence of local law enforcement. True, if Ct Troopers are there it's their turf and they call the shots, but for example, if the Rutgers procession had come upon a serious accident in CT on I-84, in the absence of any CT troopers, then they would have had to have called a halt to the procession, and overseen the accident until CT Troopers arrived. It's their job, and especially true of State troopers from any state on any state highway. If you are in civilian cloths, off duty, and eating at a diner with your kids and someone asks you "are you on the job?" they are asking you if you are a police officer, because technically you are always on the job.

Was it an emergency? Maybe they were late for their reservations at outback?

We were going to Cheesecake Factory in West Hartford. We thought by going early we'd have a better chance of getting seated in a reasonable period of time.

Coach Flood, Al & Ruthie flexed their tax dollars for sure. I walk the stadium most games to see the Huskie Walk and the away team arrive. They had the busses in a fortress setup at the off load area and we were not permitted to "greet" the opponent. I also saw two RU campus security crusiers with the busses.
I have not seen this for any other team. I would have expected it for Randys return but even that was uneventful. Other than the turtles having some sharp looking busses.
We can take solice in the fact the butt whopp'n had to make it one long miserable ride back to NJ.
P.S. For next week GO BULLS BEAT THE SNOOKIES !!!
