I hope Hurley reconsiders his stance on preseason tournaments

Personally, I hope they keep going to these tournaments. Skipped Maui since it's so far but I have gone to several of these preseason tounamenst and always had a blast. PK80, Battle for Atlantis, Charleston Classic, just to name a few. I go not just to see Uconn but other teams as well. Just because Hurley got butthurt this year is no reason to swear off all future tournaments. Just my opinion.

Charleston is a blast. Love it. But there's no way we're playing there again. They aren't pulling top teams, there's no money in it. I doubt even Atlantis will anymore.

I was in Charleston and had a blast as well. At least I saw UConn win a few games and the loss to Xavier was still exciting. That was a fairly low-cost trip to see multiple teams which included Florida as well. Too bad, if UConn doesn't return. It was neat seeing Bobby Cremins in the stands, too.

Disagree completely. That we lost by only 3 utterly validates that if we were even a tiny bit more tested we would have performed better.

If that was the case there was no reason for him to say anything. He could have just not scheduled them in the future.

With that said, I see one of his strengths as his ability to communicate with his players.

Well just call me Patrick Bateman because I happen to think iron sharpens iron. LeMoyne was DII a couple of years ago. The last 5 guys on the bench (including the trainer and team manager) would have beaten any of those teams. It did nothing to prepare for Maui except let them work up a mild lather.

I guess you could have a choice: you can have less talented players that come at a cheaper price and these kinds of tournaments or you can have more talented players that will help UConn be more successful in March/April.

I don't think it is all that hard of a choice -- you just have to realize that there are the options unless you are personally offering to compensate the UConn basketball program for the lost revenue.

Now that there is a greater focus on Hurley after back to back titles, but living in a post information age on the internet, aggregators don't do any due diligence, read articles, or care to understand nuance. The goal is clicks. That's it.

For my own selfish reasons, I hope the UConn is able to continue the tournaments. I don't live close to Connecticut or NYC, so traveling to see the team might as well involve a tropical location that doubles as a vacation. Seems the sponsors for these tournaments are gonna have to pony up more dough to attract the big time programs now that the 3 game exemption is gone. For their own survival, I think they will. Just don't know if it will be enough.

I will say I wish we would at least consider coming back to Maui, it's an important tournament in the 'lore' of UConn basketball. The rest of the tournaments I could live without.

I'm a fan of UConn either hosting something at Mohegan or just have some good regional action at MSG over the holiday. But yeah, I'm onboard with ditching the trip to Maui, Puerto Rico, etc.

As soon as Izzo hangs it up, Michigan State will take a step where they belong and we can take that tier. I agree, that seems like a lot for everyone, including the kids who have to play a 10am game? It used to matter, now it's going to be different going forward with NIL, etc.

For the school and Hurley it will come down to what's more beneficial to the school. Will UConn get more NIL money and exposure from a tournament or 2-3 high profile prime time games. Win or lose, did playing in early game of the first round help them with either really.
I'm okay with it as long as the 3 games aren't wasted on 3 more game with cupcakes that don't help in any fashion but the wins/loss record.

There's still supposedly 3 spots open in next year's Player's Era tournament if they do in fact expect to pull in 18 teams (a number which makes zero sense in a tournament setting btw).

Oregon got $1.5 million of NIL for winning this year's tourney. Maybe that's enough cash to convince everyone the trip to Vegas would be worthwhile.

While a 3-game tourney, they played the games on Tu, Wed and Sat so there is some time to practice and make adjustments before the 3rd game so it's not the same as Maui or Atlantis or even Charleston where they play Th, F, Su.
