With the TV exposure they are about to get, their home field advantage and their recent success in their own backyard, you can look for ECU to be at the top of the AAC year in and year out.

Maybe, but I wouldn't anoint them yet!

I see what you tried to do there. Unfortunately you're just flat out wrong.

The pool of talent in Basketball is much smaller and elite players face one another in the summer leagues from the time they are 14 through graduation. Based on all of that it's a lot easier to identify the elite basketball players. Basketball is also a very different sport, 1 or 2 elite players on a team can win a National Championship (Melo for Cuse, Kemba for us). This could never happen in football.

In football a team full of solid players with good coaches can beat a team full of elite recuits (WVU when they were in the Big East, Boise, Utah, Louisville pre-Big East, etc.)

So I see the point you were trying to make but unfortunately its wrong.

So the obvious disconnect isn't because that is UConn's current position - that's the reality.

Except when Calhoun was winning without those top guys. Then it wasn't.

They play good football and they should handle us easily this year. But, they ain't all that and we'll eventually own them. Just a matter of time.

In football they aren't our equal, they are ahead of us. As an athletic program, we dwarf them, however.

yep...

Maybe, those were close.. Temple draws like 5,000 people to home games as opposed to 50k at ECU.

Houston is probably similar in terms of good football, but horrible basketball.

didn't Houston beat UConn last season?

Yes - What's your point? We lost to providence in the big east a handful of times in recent years and they have a horrible program too.

When BC, Miami, VT left ECU UCF Temple and Memphis should have been invited to the Big East Conference

Temple was kicked out of the Big East back then for failing to meet minimum attendance and performance requirements.

I think we should accept that they (ECU) are a pretty good football team, and have competed well, if not beat, some pretty dam good P5 schools. Look who they got for some OOC P5 games, starting this year. I wish UConn was as lucky in scheduling.

This is about football, and the need to elevate the perception of the AAC in football. And ECU football, as well as its fan base, is what gains notice, and can help build the perception of AAC football. Isn't that what Aresco keeps preeching.....we have to show we (the AAC conference), belongs in the same sentence as the P5 conferences. Based on their history, tradition, and competitiveness, they could be a catalyst to those ends (in football).

And that's what counts! UConn has been really, really good in men's and women's BB for decades. And that didn't mean squat in realignment discussions.

I will root hard for ECU, UCF, Houston, Cincinnatti to kick FB butt (except when they play UConn, of course) becuase their success will make talking heads quickly forget about the defections of BC, WVU, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers........in a way, the FB side is probably better off with the new teams as opposed to most everyone who left. As long as we are in the AAC, we need their help to increase our perception when we beat them.........which I hope is sooner than later.

I like Memphis basketball. FedEx is a great venue. Memphis was fun to visit, so the following nothing to do with Memphis.

I pray to everything holy that in 3-5 years UConn doesn't have to worry about anything in Memphis other than an NCAA tournament game.

Would just like to say thanks to some of you for the kind words. We do have a rabid fan base with a lot of pride and tradition. No, ECU fans aren't going to storm your board (except me of course), we're not too big on twitter. Post on the Pirate football face book page though, and you'll really start something.

Anyway, I can see many of you are obviously upset about the conference. It sucks that it's not included in the P5, we know. At least it appears most of the programs are making big investments in their teams.

Glad to be joining y'all, we've really admired your success in basketball. I don't think we've ever had a defending national champion visit Minges, so everyone's excited about that. We'll fill the (admittedly small) arena and give y'all an intense atmosphere. Everyone's hoping we rise with association, and the more attention y'all can shift away from the triangle during basketball season, the better. We do have many fans that care, we've just been so bad for so long and we're just starting to really invest in the program.

Take care. Hope some of y'all can make it to a game this year, we'll show you a good time!

It just rubs me wrong when a MEMPHIS fan comes here and tries to diminish our athletic program. MEMPHIS fan.

In what way have I diminished UConn? I've shown you guys nothing but respect in my time here...I simply have healthy respect for ECU's football program.

lets not forget Memphis, UConn, and ECU are conference brothers now.

we were too busy giving UL a few boots in the ass on the way out...we'll have many, many, years to worry about UConn.

Don't rub it in.

Yup. This thread has gone about the way that I thought it would.

I, for one, am hoping that ECU is every bit as good as I think they are and more. We'll need as many strong friends as we can muster. For those of you who think it's okay to demoralize our new league mates, remember one thing; the weaker they are, the weaker we are. It's as simple as that...

Have you ever watched an ECU football game from end to end?

lets put it this way. I hadn't ever watched a UCF game from end to end until this year, when I watched two (SCAR @ UCF on ABC, Houston @ UCF on ESPN2). Just because they haven't been on TV every saturday doesn't mean they aren't a good program.

Some of you guys in the Boneyard have to realize that your pompous, snotty attitude is one(1, probably not the most important one but defienitely one) of the reasons why the ACC didn't want UConn and it's elitists fans in their conference. Like it or not, and I'm a born and bred nutmegger, there are way too many peeps in CT looking down their nose at the rest of the world and the rest of the world doesn't like it. So when they can get a chance to stick it to Connecticut they will and they have, thus our exclusion from the Big 5 conferences, the controversial handling and punishment of the men's basketball program in recent years by the NCAA and the constant slights about UConn by the sports media outside of the state. So keep taking your cheap shots at ECU and Memphis and Tulane, Tulsa, BC, Cuse, Temple.. the list goes on and on. See how fast it gets you into the ACC or the B1G. The old saying... you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar, some of you guys should take that to heart. This state needs to take that to heart.

PP's on line 2.

Edit: Actually PP would be a number 1 and GDL is definitely a #2.
