LJ Mazzilli is in pre-season camp with the Yankees batting .400 2-5 with a double. Still grinding at age 28. Love to see him complete the puzzle with all those 2010 Huskies in the bigs.

Good synopsis from @JohnFSilver / Zac Boyer’s UConn Daily this morning:

>> Ex-Huskies Players Ready as MILB Opens

The Story: There will be 12 former UConn baseball players on Minor League Baseball rosters when the season gets underway today, according to Baseball Reference.

WHO IS WHERE? Four former UConn players are in the major leagues: Nick Ahmed (Arizona Diamondbacks), Matt Barnes (Boston Red Sox), Scott Oberg (Colorado Rockies) and George Springer (Houston Astros).

One player, outfielder John Andreoli, will begin with the Minnesota Twins' Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings. Two more are in Double-A: catcher Max McDowell (Biloxi Shuckers/Milwaukee Brewers) and pitcher Pat Ruotolo (Richmond Flying Squirrels/San Francisco Giants).

Five players have been assigned to Class-A Advanced teams: pitchers Anthony Kay (New York Mets/St. Lucie Mets), Wills Montgomerie (Los Angeles Dodgers/Rancho Cucamonga Quakes) and John Russell (San Francisco Giants/San Jose Giants), center fielder Jack Sundberg (Washington Nationals/Potomac Nationals) and third baseman Willy Yahn (Baltimore Orioles/Frederick Keys).

Pitchers Tim Cate (Washington Nationals/Hagerstown Suns) and P.J. Poulin(Colorado Rockies/Asheville Tourists) are at Class A, as is second baseman Vinny Siena (New York Mets/Columbia Fireflies), and catcher Zac Susi (Pittsburgh Pirates/Bristol Pirates) is starting in the rookie league.

MISSING OUT: Four players who have reached at least Double-A were released at the end of spring training: Anthony Marzi, L.J. Mazzilli, Greg Nappo and Mike Olt, who last reached the majors with the Chicago White Sox in 2015.<<

I don't see Ruotolo on AA Richmond's roster. They play tonight in Hartford's home opener.

He pitched really well at Richmond last year and I thought he might get a bump to AAA, but he's not listed on the AAA Sacramento roster either (yet). Injured?

He was assigned to San Jose A+ out of Spring Training. Potentially and injury and they wanted him closer to San Fran for treatment?
