Hurley's in game coaching needs improvement. Not calling timeouts until the other team has already made a big run is a problem. He needs to fix this part of his game if he can, because in game coaching needs work and isn't a strength of his.

It has been coaching malpractice against both USC and Creighton down the stretch of games. RJ Cole has been the guy to be the "closer' both games which is laughable considering he sucks big time for this level. The team has been ice cold, Bouk nowhere to be seen. That cannot happen.

The insistence on playing so many minutes of BAdams is awful coaching considering AJacks is a way better play than him. We lack breakdown ability from our players other than Bouk. AJacks is the only player other than Bouk who has shown that he create off the dribble, and has good vision. He also will not lose the ball or get stripped of the ball. He needs more time. We don't need him to shoot 3s but to do what he naturally can do as a slasher, passer, and rebounder, defender, add intangibles on the court. Adams, Cole, and Martin don't have that in them.

This was an Olliesque loss because Hurley brought in Olliesque players in Cole and Martin. In terms of our second scoring option, our second guy has to be Polley for this team to reach its potential. Whaley/AJacks needs to be the third guy.

Gaff looks worse because he is so tentative and scared to make any mistakes for fear he will lose even more minutes. Despite that he made 2 winning plays down the stretch, which was 2 more than anyone else. That alone speaks to why he should clearly start.

Gaffney is the anti-Sterling Gibbs. Who is the last player that had this many people clamoring for him to get more minutes based on absolutely nothing whatsoever?

(I'm not calling you out specifically, your takes are always awful.)

Same with Jackson. Does he show that he has big time tools (like Sanogo)? Heck yes. Has he shown he's ready to contribute at this level at this time? Hell no.

Akok coming back as a NBA prospect would be a big difference. Other than that, there is only so good we are going to be until Sanogo and Jackson start being ready to play like they're not freshmen.

He has shown to be a winning player. Cole has not. That is the difference. Gaff isn't anything special, not like what we are used to having at this program. He is the best point guard we have at the moment.

Cole can be a decent bench energy guy to change pace and momentum. Never a leader of UCONN men's basketball.

AJacks needs to be in these games late along with Polley. We need winning players down the stretch.

Up 66-62 at home with 21 seconds left Hurley needs to win this game. The completely uncontested layup with 14 seconds -left way too much time. Switch to zone, force a shot, anything but the layup.

Absolutely brutal. You defend until the buzzer. I cannot believe how quickly and easily we let them score when they needed to score to even have a shot to win. We almost gave the USC game away too but they weren't good enough to win it.

Deeply concerning stuff from Hurley down the stretch in these games. Being competitive is great and certainly beats the despair of those Ollie beat downs, but these types of losses will get old fast.

Speaking of Hurley, the announcers were commenting quite a bit that they've never seen McDermott so animated and incensed. And you could see McDermott keep looking down the court toward the UConn bench over and over and over, even during timeouts when all his players were huddled by their bench.

What was that?

Cole played Zegs really well much better than Gaff ever could, not close. Cole missed shots he hopefully will eventually make and until the 2 FTs he played fine. Find someone else because for now even after 2-12 he’s better than Gaffney and it’s actually not too close.

Cole makes a couple more open shots and we win easily. He’s been a good shooter in the past and he had plenty of open looks. Hopefully, those shots start dropping a little more and the court will open up. The missed free throws definitely show you that RJ isn’t relaxed out there yet. He doesn’t have a history of being a choker, just the opposite. We just aren’t clicking on all cylinders and our team has very little experience together. It is really hard to be overly concerned with an OT loss to a good team given all of the circumstances. My one major concern is simply that once again, we seem to have a bunch of combo guards. We need a natural and talented pg badly. It is a shame that one will arrive just as Bouk walks out the door.

We played that possession without a big. Carlton should have been in. Yes, you don't want him to have to make a free throw, but we had a time out left to get him off the court if we got the ball back.

But I agree that Hurley hasn't yet shown he's a great in game coach.

What is your evidence that Jackson can take guys off the dribble? His high school videos? Your dreams?? Cuz he sure as hell hasn’t done that here.

Agree to disagree he was 2 for 12 today and choked he played excellent defense most of the time but gagged on the last drive and he shoots set shots which any defense could stop

Yeah, but Carlton had a great opportunity to provide late help and come up big on that last second push shot. Would have loved to have had Whaley's quickness and physicality on the that last play in regulation, I really think it would have made a difference.

He missed the FTs if gag makes you happy then you are correct. He’s our better choice like it or not, on both ends.

No freebies ever especially a layup. You have to make those free throws at least one.

Lousy last 21 second of coaching. This game was there for the taking and it didn't happen.

You may have an argument about the closing minutes, but something happened in the 1st half. Some good coaching moves. We started off pretty horrible offensively. Then a switch was flipped and our offense came alive. We started really hot in the 2nd half as well. It lasted until late in the 2nd half when the game slipped away. So there were some good gametime decisions made as well. Not exactly sure what, but we certainly got Bouk into positions to score.
