How is the NCAA settlement going to affect non-P4 leagues long term?

He would much prefer an NCAA tournament without any of these pesky low major champs. He’s Sankey in a 3 piece suit. If there is ever a real split from the NCAA, I’d expect him to be a candidate for commissioner of the BIG 10-SEC Challenge tournament, though only if it includes Duke, too.

If we are not in the top tier league for at least basketball, the state will lose interest. CT routes for 1st division teams only. Perfect example is UConn football. Lost the BCS branding, and the crowds disappeared.

You may want to check the timing on that.

It wasn't until the product became an out and out embarrassment that the crowds disappeared.

If they are going to hold a 32 team tournament without UConn, Villanova, Gonzaga and several others, it's not going to be worth a warm bucket of spit.

But whether they do this or not, it really doesn't matter whether the NCAA is paying or not paying former athletes. Or if the NCAA even exists.

If they don't want UConn, Villanova or Gonzaga, they are going to exclude them anyway, and this lawsuit will have absolutely no impact on that decision.

But I do think they would lose an antitrust suit if they try to exclude the most successful college basketball school in modern history.

The problem is that a tournament without UConn won’t matter that much. As long as it has major media attention it will be THE TOURNAMENT. It will have names that most casual fans know. Sure people will miss the early round upsets and the unexpected runs, UConn and Gonzaga aren’t those teams any more. Villanova…uh no. And if they really wanted to the P4 could throw a few bones to non-members, like 2-4 at-large bids to teams like UConn and Gonzaga and San Diego State and DePaul (ok you get that was a joke, right?) sort of like what the Big and SEC are doing with the Big 12 ACC and G5 in football. The other leagues don’t like it but fear what happens if they don’t accept it. Maybe it is even 6-8 at large to the top non-power schools. If there is a positive it would be that the NIT would become more popular again.

My point is, if they're that stupid to mess with the tournament and risk the loss of a ton of money, they will always do this anyway no matter what happens with the current lawsuit against the NCAA

Difference is outside P4 football the football played is not remotely at the same level. Basketball is different. There are good teams outside the P4 in basketball.
