Lets look at the stats.

UConn shot 49% ND shot 47%

UConn made 5 more 2 pt baskets then ND which is 10 pts more then ND

UConn from 3 shot 38% ND from 3 shot 32%

UConn made 3 more baskets from 3 which is 9pts more then ND

UConn out rebounded ND by by 3

UConn had 3 players with 4 fouls ND had none

So from the field UConn out scores ND by 19 pts.

So how did we loose? Some may say we didnt drive to the basket enough, or we didnt defend ND going to the basket on dribble drives and some say we committed to many fouls. Well the refs call the fouls or dont call the fouls. When your in foul trouble you cant play defense and that is part of the reason for UConn allowing so many points to ND even by out scoring ND from the field by 19pts . For a team that doesnt foul much 4 players in foul trouble in a big game is unusual.

BTW I almost forgot ND did go to the line 17 times more then UConn. When you beat from the field by 19 pts as UConn did and you loose it cant be all your fault and that only makes sense to look elsewhere for a reason why you lost. JMO and observations folks.

So when nit pickin the team, Geno, the coaches, look at the stats. We beat ND in every category we could control and lost in the one category we couldnt control.

Why didn’t we use the zone in the 2nd half? Why didn’t Z get more minutes?

Fouls, free throws and non-calls against us (a lot if it due to unbalanced refereeing). Two or three really inopportune live-ball turnovers late in the game. Two key missed shots, one at the end of regulation and at the other at the end of overtime.

Additionally, like Mississippi State, they deployed a defense that rendered our half-court "motion' offense largely ineffective for much of the game, and we did not have the guard play necessary to compensate.

I'm with you most times @Tonyc, but not with this one. ND won the stat that was most important, the score board, give ND credit. The amount of times a team fouls is definitely "controllable". I know this because UCONN routinely leads the nation in this stat. Not about to blame this loss on the refs.

You got it!!!!!! Period. The refs decided the game.

ND are the queens of floppers, they flop more than caught fish on a boat.
Collier was hit 3/4 times, and was visibly knocked down. I don't remember ESPN replaying any of those plays to re-look at them.
Katie Lou had two, an offensive foul on Nelson on a pass, and the "brush" against Young on a three point play.
There was an offensive foul on Z, under the basket which was not a foul.
Since the overall reaction in the WCBB world was joy that UCONN lost, the disparity in calls was noticeable.

As a rule...and especially here, in this case
blaming the refs is a imperfect way to post-mortem a game
The game was decided on strategy and performance
And for much of the game, their's was superior (as was the case earlier in he season).

I'm not going as far as others that are saying (essentially) why didn't you stick with what worked best?

But it's not an illegitimate question.

I also don't necessarily think that ND is now in the drivers seat for the next few years.

And I bet that Muffit (as pleased as she is) doesn't think so either.

Her problem now, is proving that her win the other night wasn't a one off
And she's had this issue in the past.

It sure would have been nice to have another bench player to cover for one of the starters when they had three fouls..............I warned as the season progressed that Geno's bench policy was going to hurt the team at some important point and from what I observed, Megan Walker could have played at least a small role in that game.........and please don't say she lacked confidence because if she did it was from a shocking lack of consistent playing time from week one.............

Slight correction: UConn made 5 more FIELD GOALS (not two-pointers) than ND and 3 more three-pointers. That adds up to 13 more points from the floor, which is how they defeated us with 15 more made free throws

seems pretty clear that was Muffet's game plan and like it or not it worked...........UConn makes one more basket and all is forgotten.........

To be out scored by 15 from the foul line, 2 charges called under the basket negating 2 baskets in 4th quarter, Lou the team's best driver getting called for 3 fouls in 4th quarter, Gabby getting hammered on potential game winner. The officials in both games had too much influence on outcomes

When these two teams last played UCONN committed 12 PF and ND committed 16. UCONN went to the free throw line 18 times and to ND's 11. During this FF ND commited 11 PF to UCONN's 18. ND went to the FT line 23 times to UCONN's 6 attempts. Considering this game went into OT and UCONN found itself in multiple situations where they had to send ND to the line that is not much of a descrepancy. ND found a way to flip the script and UCONN could not stay on script by not fouling-again give ND credit.

We didn’t loose.

Would that we had, at least in the sense of “let loose.”

But we didn’t let loose. We played tentative for large stretches of the latter part of the game.

Which is why we lost. (Which is the past tense of lose.)

I think I'm about to lose it.............and you losers all know what kind of loss that would be.

Reproduced below, courtesy of Phil's UConn site, is a poem by The Poet Lariat (aka Zorro).

The poem was written to honor Tony. Over a decade ago.

Not the "final word," but don't give up, Tony. There's plenty of time to get it right.

The absolutely final word on loose and lose, by the Poet Lariat

Too loose a plan can trip you up, and, likewise, two loose shoes.
To loose his wrath upon his friends a gentleman eschews.
A bigamist might marry with two Nancys or two Lous
If you had two loos in England, you might not know which to use.
Tool use is for mechanics and brush use for Toulouse
In the tourney semifinals, we always see two lose.
Too, lose your concentration and you may find that you get
Reductio ad absurdum, by the Poet Lariat!

Well, I, for one, am relieved. As an ardent Husky fan already looking forward to the 2018-2019 season, and to an even more felicitous outcome, it is comforting to learn that there are so many things about which we need not worry: No more cold shooting spells in big games. No more careless and lazy passes that result in critical turnovers. No more inexcusable defensive lapses. No more games against well-coached teams that employ stifling defenses that disrupt the rhythm of our half-court offense. Nah, we just need a different set of refs. That shouldn't be too hard to arrange!

Two things

1. Check the points of each team from the foul line.

2. ND hit big shot at the last second. We didn't.

You need to stop beating this dead horse. You're not better at evaluating talent than Geno and never will be. If he believes his bench players don't measure up and/or have the ability to play better than a starter with three or four fouls then what makes you think you're better qualified to make those decisions? How many D1 championships have you won?

UConn hit some pretty big shots. Collier and Dangerfield's threes, for instance.

Notre Dame made far more mistakes. The bad pass that Nurse picked off for the tying layup. Shepherd fumbling the ball out of bounds giving UConn a chance to win in regulation. Ogunbowale's two missed free throws before Dangerfield's tying three. Somehow they still win.
