To be honest, I kinda think they are all the same. I do like vinegar so Frank's is cool, but I never buy it. I always buy local. Even in Fargo ND it's easy to find locally made hot sauce. The less professional the label the better. No label at all is preferred. Just a bottle. There's a brand in Fargo called "Off the Deck" that is totally adequate. Unfortunately it comes with a label.

I use hot sauce for two different functions:

to make buffalo sauce

and to add flavor

For buffalo sauce, crystal's Louisiana hot sauce is my favorite. For flavor, the Chipotle flavored Tabasco is my favorite. great on chicken and great on steak.

I have probably 15 bottles of hot sauce/buffalo sauce in the cabinet right now. I'm not sure I'd say it's the best but my personal favorite is the Cayenne Pepper one from this bundle I got for Christmas last year.

Make my own from garden grown peppers. The play of the heat is so much different. Not sure how to explain it but the way the heat starts and finishes is "cleaner"? More distinct? Almost like the processing of store bought sauces tempers the whole thing? @August_West does that make sense to you?

And 99% of srirachas blow.

Want a guaranteed way to make sure I don't order an item on a menu? Put sriracha on it.
yes! this! that stuff is nasty. good thing that siracha mania of a few years back has calmed way down.

Correct and correct.

If Crystal's is out, this is a good substitute.

Second the Louisiana/Crystal for buffalo sauce.

I tried making my own once but it came out more like a relish.

Arizona Gunslinger has been a great discovery. I find most hot sauces do not balance heat and flavor well, too spicy with no flavor or no heat. I love spicy foods but they have to taste good.

If you have a blender and a few basic ingredients hot sauce is pretty easy to make on your own but this is one of my recent faves too.

Maria sharp too.

I don't know about "best". I usually keep a half dozen around for different purposes: buffalo sauce/wings, eggs, Cajun, Latin, East African, Asian. There are different levels of heat/sweetness/fruitiness that work better for each application than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Sriracha has its place, but it's a very limited place.

My go to sauce. Also anything with ghost pepper.
