His name...is Adama Sanogo

Hard to see him not starting on Friday.

He ain't starting Friday. Great game by him. Hands, position and timing on offensive boards are impressive. They'd be impressive for a senior with 100 college games under his belt. For a frosh in his first game? Really impressive.

That being said Pork Chop was active and played well as the starting five. You'll see the same five starting Friday as you saw today.

So composed in the post and he just gets great position. He can play defense too. Yeah it looks like Whaley is going to back him up in not too much time. Carlton will probably not see time at all. Carlton can't play a lick of defense.
A lot to like for sure but he's not starting over Whaley anytime soon. His half court defense is a work in progress. Needs to learn how to hard hedge and get back to his guy
I'm not giving up Whaley's starting spot. He earned it. And knows what it takes. Sanogo has already or will prove he deserves the next most minutes over Carlton.

Whaley is still or best defensive big. Hedging on pick and rolls. And using his athleticism and keeping ability to effect shots and get blocks.

Sanogo got scored on by a CCSU big. Sanogo was in defensive position but didn't show the quick jumping ability to go up to contest the shot. Whaley would've contested or blocked the shot.

Solid first game.. Soft hands.. Need Coach Mike to help him with those fast twitch leg muscles.. Doesn't have a lot of "lift".. Lunch pail mentality and high motor.. Nice skill set to build on..

Sanogo is everything I expected, a strong rebounder with a soft touch around the basket.

What surprised me is his poise. He's already playing like a veteran.

He's like our Oscar Tshiebwe: if shots aren't going in, he can spark our offense with his second-chance put-backs.

I'm most impressed with his hands and touch.

We know he's a big, strong guy who's going to collect rebounds and block shots (especially against small teams).

But the ability to go right back up with a soft hook shot without fumbling it away or clanging it off the rim isn't something we've see from a freshman big in a long time.

It's incredible what Hurley has been able to do with this roster in 2 years.

Agree. BTW, seeing Sanogo hedging out at me would scare the sheet out of me.

One game against CSCU and he did look like Baby Shaq. Seen Carlton light up similar teams.

Anxious to see him work against the big dogs, but damn if he doesn't have the body, skills and potential to be special.

He ate up Carlton's minutes like PacMan.

Someone said that Sanogo has a "good, rudimentary" move underneath. What he actually has is an expert move executed with such confident ease as to look rudimentary. Decades ago, Bill Walton had a 21 for 22 tournament game where every basket was a soft baby hook. Watching that, you thought, "Why can't every big man do that. You get him the ball, and he does a little semi-turn and puts it in the basket." Sanogo shows that same instinct for the hoop. As for the Carlton comparison, it took just 17 minutes of watching Sanogo to label Josh's set of offensive moves as works in progress.

Is he the guy that decommitted from Seton hall?
Never committed to Seton Hall but they were assumed to be the leader for him for a while.

Then Coach Young said, nahhh.

A baby hook.. When combined with the right body positioning and the timing of shot release.. Is almost impossible to defend for taller shot blockers unless they have the perfect angle for the block.. Especially true if the shooter can use either hand for the hook shot.. AS displayed the move a few times last night ..Will be useful to have in his bag of tricks for the BE battles.. Thinking AS might be using it/perfecting it in practice vs Javonte..

Right handed... but he has a fantastic left hand hook shot. Makes things so easy when a player is ambidextrous
Unstoppable. Like a big cat with a combination of power and athleticism. These guys are going to be exciting to watch and more in the pipeline in the future. It's turning around so quickly that it can make you speechless at times.

No doubt right about Friday, but what smacks you in the face about last night is that certain newcomers are going to see major minutes immediately, and two of them are Sanogo and Jackson. I'll politely wager that Sanogo will log more minutes at the 5 this year than Whaley, and if Martin is our 3, then Jackson will log more minutes at the 4 than Whaley. As good as the supporting cast is, we have three potential superstars on this team who are going to play.

What do we normally have for freshman in his spot? A 6’9” 175 pounder who gets terrified putting up a 2’ layup. Instead we got 240 pounds of muscle that can immediately go to war in the BE. Happy.

Great feet to eventually be a very good defender. Over hedges on occasion as mentioned above but Whaley can teach him some things there. Great hands with a wonderful left hand. Wow what a get and he’ll only get better!

He turned out to be exactly the player he said he would be when recruited but better. Hit the boards on both ends, high motor. Build your game while staying within yourself. That's two big men Hurley has brought in two years in that like to play hard and play team ball. That's how you build a program.
