To be fair, Shaka is not in the same class as JB at this stage. The guy's in the hall of fame, has 950 wins, and despite all our protestations to the opposite, did manage to win a National Title.

Now THIS deserves its own thread.

Would dude even be in the top 20 if they didn't stumble in to the FF last year? Two EEs since the Melo rental....

He's definitely a great coach, but it's pretty weird how he seems to care more about squeezing out every regular season win possible instead of creating a roster with the margin of error it takes to win 6 one and done games in a row in March. Guess he really wants to get to that 1000 wins.

Was going to post a simialr point, but it is current top 50. Body of work isn't as important as recent results. If Cuse doesn't implode down the stretch last year, JB is ranked higher.

They are measuring current performance, not lifetime achievement.

Ok, admittedly haven't paid that much attention to this list and its criteria.

"He is currently winning 25-30 games a season, I can read just fine. There are not 11 coaches in the world, NBA included, that are better than him."

I agree. His best attribute is that he really knows how to dig deep. If I wasn't on my phone, I would provide some photographic evidence to back up my claim. Hopefully someone can help me out?

Now I'm not on that side of the spectrum either. Anyone with a critical eye knows that Boeheim's seasonal win totals are inflated by easy and 'creative' scheduling.

The zone works well against most teams much of the time. The zone does not work well against some teams some of the time. Since JB seems to not coach man to man at all, he is stuck in any game where the opponent shoots well from the perimeter or is able to find the seams often. JB gets #12 for being a B+ coach but he'll never get to A except on a fluke because he doesn't coach in the moment. He's sort of like an Army general whose plan is getting foiled by the enemy and he freezes because there never was a plan "B."

No doubt he is a great coach, and he is still racking up wins at an unbelievable rate, but the point about 2 Elite Eights since Melo really diminshes those stats, at least in my mind

The best coaches make in game adjustments on the fly and Boeheim never struck me as one to do it. I have the same feelings as many here thinking he's a B+ coach primarily BC he finds the players to fit his system. Teams that are used to playing against their length usually fair well.

Let me preface this all by saying that everything I know about this list comes from this site. Lists are pointless and avoid espn "analysis" of any kind.

But really? 12? The man is a Hall of Famer and put a HUGE stamp on the landscape of college basketball. He is the second all time winningest coach in D1 history; and still going. The fact that his is not in the top 3 is an insult to him. 12. Ridiculous.

Just remember; Disney owns espn now so what do you really expect from mickey mouse sports?

I expected to see Boeheim around 8-10 on this list. Has made a final four in the last 5 years, but not done much else (1 conference title right?). Definitely doesn't deserve to be in the top 5 as I expect the top 5 to be some combination of Calipari, Pitino, K, Donovan, and Self, with Calipari sadly at #1. I think Izzo is a top 5 coach currently too but he hasn't been to the final four since 2009 so I think that moves him down a bit in this poll.

Based on recent history, KO has a national championship and Beilein a national runner-up so would expect them to be top 10 as well. Somehow Bo Ryan is in the top 11 on this list too with only 1 final four appearance last season, but he must be getting a lot of credit for his consistent top 4 finishes in the B1G year after year.

The last five years Jimmy B has under achieved 4 of 5 years in the tour.. He has been a 1 seed twice, 2 seed and 3 seed and every time he underachieved his seed. Only when he was a 5 seed to he overachieve by going to the final 4. Great coaches perform much better in the NCAA tor. His top 12 is no surprise to me. He has a ton of talent but usually underachieved.

It is a slap to JB's results (NC, FF's, 900+ wins). Not a slap to his coaching ability. His system and his teams consistently underperform. That's coaching in a nutshell.

Its kinda hard for Cuse fans to talk any crap when FORTY-FIVE people with some degree of advanced basketball knowledge average JB to be 12th.

The collective opinion of forty-five basketball writers is that KO is better than JB, right now. I can't argue with that.

Ford would be bad, but not sure what Sean Miller has done to get himself in this group. I mean, that demolition of Duke in the 2011 tournament was fun and all, but come on.
