HFS…Solo out next year with a wrist injury

This is a huge loss, no other way to describe it. Even if he gets healthy way ahead of schedule, Im not sure he can even play due to NIL issues.

It sucks that Solo is hurt but in many ways this works out perfectly in terms of the logjam at the wing. Mullins at the 2 in 2026-27 and Ball comes back and gets all the minutes at SG to be a star in 27-28. Ross/Landrew at the 3 in 26/27 followed by Landrew getting starters minutes at the 3 the following year.
I think we need a stud from the portal at 4, Ross/Landrew not big enough for some of these teams we will be facing

I hear what people are saying but I’m a long way from believing “This is for the best.”

It’s a huge loss
We were poor at shooting this year. I was expecting Solo to rebound with a healthy wrist.

Khamenia might pick up Alex's output, but that leaves us with Ross & Landrew as a baseline to return to this year's shooting...

while I was expecting a huge improvement.

Just putting it out there, if the NCAA goes to 5 years to play 5, a medical redshirt becomes useless.

I wouldn't rule Solo out for next season just yet....

Unless we bring in a portal guy,

Silas
Mullins
Ross
NK
Hines

Is looking like the lineup going into the year. Need bench pieces though unless we want to rely on the freshman (which I personally don’t mind).
This is why Hurley wanted Khamenia and Freeman. They knew this all along. I am guessing a power forward, back up point guard like Malik Mack and a hybrid c/f. Mullins plays 2. We have plenty of money according to the locked on guy.

This upcoming year won't apply. But interesting call on the possibility that Ball is ready next year - let's say Mullins gets hurt late in the season..........

I don't see it. We are going to be looking for Combo guard in the portal even if County can give us a few minutes at the 1 or 2. We need someone who penetrate and is athletic at the guard now.
Agreed. If County was a complete stud with physical built for college, maybe. He is a good shooter, decent penetrator, but it would be a risk to place so much burden on a freshman in this offense/defense. Look at Silas..experienced work horse..it took months to be comfortable in UConn system. We now need a combo guard.

I think NIL comes into play. It’d be hard to pay him his worth if he misses 1/2 a season, Probably best to sit the year get healthy and work on his game. Come back an All American candidate for 27/28.

Wow! Amazing he hit any of those big daggers with this injury! Solo is truly a remarkable all time Husky.

Wishing him a full recovery and looking forward to seeing him drain 3s once he's healthy and back on the floor.

@ArizonaHsky and @Thirty Three, while you like to blame Solo, he was toughing it out and being our second leading scorer for the year while dealing with this.
What did I blame Solo for??? I was well aware of his wrist injury. I literally posted some final season stats I noticed. I gave no opinion on it. Now I remember why I haven’t posted here in years.

We really don't know if they went to Khamenia and Freeman for the same position or not.

The PF market is really, really thin at this point. It's basically the high end guys that are exploring draft, Freeman, then drops off down to an Iowa kid who is now CB to Ville. The more I look at this, the more I think Khamenia goes 4 - and maybe they consider grooming Hines into a true PF if they grab a solid 5. Then they can both get minutes at the 5, with Hines playing some backup 4. He's athletic enough to do it.

If we're truly out on the StM kid, doubt we are looking at Graves or Milosivic.

There are 4 million guards out there, it's the FC positions that are tough.

Was this just complete mishandling of an injury by our staff on a wrist that was evidently beyond messed up?
Bad to speculate on that. Medical player decisions are between the team doc and the player, and often it comes down to “if I get surgery you say I’m out for the year,” vs “if I play with it can it get worse or is it just pain?”

Why does everyone on the yard act like the staff is finding out about this in real time like we are?

They’ve probably known this was on the table since the tourney ended.

I have zero concern the staff is well prepared and placing their chess pieces in the portal properly.

Get well soon Solo!!
Like when they were still in on Freeman after Khamenia?

Wow!

I was shocked to read this considering Solo placed most of the season. Not knowing the specifics of the injury, for him to play through it for a full season and tournament shows some grit.

Maybe he exacerbated the injury sometime late in the season?

Now I feel bad complaining about his play during the season.

Get well Solo!

I don’t think we need a combo. I think we need a legit PG, someone like Smith last year. Silas can play off ball if needed. But Mullins is going to lead this team in minutes played.
