HFS…Solo out next year with a wrist injury

About the only good news here is it was decided now and not in December. So there is time to find someone close to solo’s abilities. If the teams chooses to do so.

Gonna be curious now as to whether Hurley goes and gets a 4.
I do think a good 4/5 would solve 2 problems at once but we have been linked with true Centers and combo PF/C too so not sure the direction we are going here.

We'll probably never know for sure but I think they knew he had torn ligaments and Solo refused to shut it down. He couldn't put any pressure on it, you could see it during all the games. It's next level the pain he played through.

Special, special young man.
Nobody goes from shooting 41% to 29% without something significant. Dude was always a warrior. He and AK were the two who didn't give up vs. OU and Florida in the tournament. Love this kid.

Not a doctor- but what I am reading online- typically wrist surgery takes the max six months for full recovery- would put him back into the mix around November/December.

I give him credit for being courageous at this point of his career to sit out a year, work on his game, & bet on himself come 2028- hopefully it all comes to fruition & is an All American for UConn & more importantly for him is an NBA Draft Pick.

Honestly...is it? Lots of question marks here. You are asking 3 guys to make SIGNIFCANT jumps in playing time and production.

I don't love it as it stands.
Yeah not wild with that frontcourt. Back court is top 5 in the Nation.

This opens up playing time for County at the 2 off the bench. Can go after a veteran point guard which won't scare him off.

Landrew or Ross for the starting 3 spot.
Exactly. It solves a problem, it doesn’t create one. Now Solo gets to have the senior season he deserves as a starting SG. Mullins will definitely be gone to the NBA. Mullins will play 32 a game and we can give County 8 mpg at SG or play Silas off ball if the backup PG is solid.

I think this is great for him. Get completely healthy to give best possible shot to make it to the next level.
And if he recovers quicker than expected, who knows….

More importantly, that’s one tough sob

Never complained or used the injury as an excuse

How can you not root for a kid like that!!

100%, these things don’t happen in a vacuum. I don’t think he takes the whole year off if Mullins wasn’t coming back.

That should be obvious but I'm 40 posts into this thread and many don't seem to grasp he's getting surgery, fully healing, practicing for part of next season, getting paid, and then a lead role in 2027.

Wow, I always liked Solo, He is a bit of a folk hero inside our home…his name, his Lenny Kravitz good looks, his calm demeanor, his pride and in being a Husky… Yes, this year was frustrating, and I did find myself yelling at him through the TV, I felt bad, because he seems like a good kid , but I was yelling at solo through the TV at times…but I felt that at some point, he was going to put some moments together and he played so hard down the stretch when it counted mostand kept them in some of those games…and now to find out what he was dealing with all year long and he never once complained!!!! This kid deserves all the good things that come his way. I see him being unstoppable as he prepares for 2027/2028, I mean, he will be exceptional. I will very much miss seeing him on the court next year, but somehow knowing that we will have him two years from now makes me feel just a little bit better. Go Solo!

Never heard of a year long wrist injury.
I'm going to guess it's a displaced scaphoid fracture. Even then he would be out of the cast by the end of the summer, but wouldn't be in playing shape in time for the season. He probably didn't want a half ass his way through another season.

Let me just say, what a freaking warrior to play a whole year with this. If it is what I think it is, they would have to manually reset his arm and wrap it for every game.

Then why did we back off Freeman?
I don’t think he was a good fit. I think they’re looking for someone with a higher BBIQ. Just a hunch here based on what we know about why Nik left Duke, and the assumption Hurley wants to get bigger. I could be wrong.
