Heads-up: Monday night...S Carolina at LadyVol

Just wondering. Why does UCONN need to fear SC (or anybody for that matter)? You guys already beat us in a pretty dominating fashion.

Not saying you guys should root for us. You definitely shouldn't, but I'm confused by the SC paranoia.

To tell you the truth I don't care who wins the game. I hope SC beats Notre Dame in the final four to face UCONN for the National Championship. Good luck!

The thing about Tennessee is that they have the talent to compete against anyone.
Impossible to handicap with certainty.
That's why those wishing for them to be a 16-seed in our bracket may be wishing for something they might regret.

Erm, have you actually watched the, "talent" play this year? Either that or to paraphrase Diego Montoya, "I don't think that word means what you think it means".

I hope that wcbb will benefit by both teams playing an entertaining and competitive game on national tv, with no injuries and decent refs.

Please, nothing "boring." ;)

That's really asking for a lot.

not to be "that guy", but, as a Princess Bride purist, it's "Inigo Montoya"

Tenn seems to find a way to lose. I don't think that will change.

Here are the rules...

1. Beat the living crap out of each other.
2. Rebound and put back.
3. First team to 60 wins.

I've watched enough SEC basketball this year to know that is pretty much what you are going to see. As far as who wins I don't think it matters really. If SCar wins people will say well they should have they are the #2 team in country. If Tennessee wins people will say well they should have been winning all year long since at this point there's really nothing they can do right no matter what because of how far they are from where people thought they would be.

Winning Percentage:
South Carolina- 90% Reason being, they know how. It might not be pretty but they know how to get it done their own way.
Tennessee- 10% The only reason I give them any chance to win this game is because even though TN has horrible offense they at least try on defense sometimes and South Carolina has just as many offensive droughts as TN.

All I ask is that we don't see any single digit quarters and that the combined points @ halftime are at least 60. If they can make that happen I will watch the whole game.

1. I hope it is a decently competitive game until the end with a So. Carolina win by at least 10-15. Not necessarily because of animus toward Tennessee, but I would like to see them dropped out of the Top 25 because I don't believe they deserve to be there with a 15-9 record.

2. I find it both interesting and amusing that many LV fans on VolNation have had a resurgence of hope after their win against Vandy. They have dropped some of the woe is us attitude and believe they will give So. Carolina a run for the money. And truthfully, because Tennessee can be so baffling, it wouldn't surprise me if they have a strong game.

I have no problem rooting for SC. Dawn is trying to do in Columbia what Geno's done in Storrs. I appreciate seeing the game played well by our opponents and see no reason (with a couple of exceptions for particularly bad behavior) to dislike one of our rivals just because they provide us with real competition.

I don't root against Stanford just because they ended our 90 game win streak, or Villanova because they stopped us at 70.
Well said! I just cannot imagine why UConn fans would choose to root against SC other than when they play UConn. Are we, of ALL folks (!) annoyed that a brash young coach has taken a previously moribund program and elevated it to elite status with excellent recruiting and a high level of coaching...and passion? Do UConn fans, of ALL people, somehow think that such developments are not good for the game? This is wacky! OK, I "get" the historical basis for the resident hatred of UT, though even that is rooted in a now long-gone era, and their program is quickly slipping into irrelevance anyway (unfortunate, in my view). But SC? Should we now unite, as fans, to wish ill upon Temple because they gave UConn a good game for three quarters? In my opinion, all of us need to focus a bit more on the health of WCBB. In our little corner of the world, we enjoy a happily distorted, but undeniably distorted, point of view. The status of the game is infinitely more fragile elsewhere!

I'm sure we will hear all about the tough SEC defense. Always the excuse for why those teams can't put the ball in the hoop. Even Temple scored more against us yesterday than South Carolina did.

I don't think TN will drop out of the top 25 with a loss to the #2 team.
Agree. On the contrary, playing a competitive game against SC may allow TN to survive a couple more bad losses and still hang in the top 25. I hope SC totally blows them out from beginning to end.

I understand the perspective you and Magy have expressed, and there may well be truth in your prediction - but still, top 25 with 10 losses just seems unreasonable to me.

After tonight's game, Tennessee at worst ought to finish the season at least 3-1. They have the bottom 3 teams in the SEC to finish up the year (Ole Miss, LSU & Alabama). The other game is with Georgia which, based on performance and record to date, should have a even shot, but that game is at Knoxville.

I want to watch UT lose. I want to watch Holly lose it, I want to watch Diamond have a temper tantrum. I want to watch SC beat them so bad, they are knocked back into the NIT.
Ok, so I still have a bit of anger, but nobody messes with my team or coach. Getting beat by a better team is one thing, destroying UT is another.

Hmmm. If the LV lose by, say, 25, will they still be #25 for Auld Lang Syne?

Nah!!

1st quarter ends, South Carolina down, 12-8. They just can't make a shot.

Sonny, Let me apologize for doubting you. The Vols didn't win, but their effort surprised the heck out of me.
Bonpland, please entertain the possibility that Sonny was being facetious. Note the rolleyes emoticon following the once-inconceivable notion that any Lady Vol win would be a "colossal upset."

A perhaps equally indicative factor is that Sonny is quite capable of administering the occasional sly needle.
