Or a pissing contest between who can make the situation sound the *tiest. Everybody on this board knows it's a real *ty situation, but it does get tiring hearing one or another BYer stand on the soap box and proclaim they're the only ones with privileged insider information that the mountain of * is ten times higher than what the last person said.

very well said

You're not wrong. But if it gets to be too much, just take a break for a while. I just did that over the holidays. Spent 2 weeks BY free. Missed it and came back.

My only point.........if you want to talk optimistically, start a thread and filter out the nonsense. Don't read or respond to the negative stuff. And if it's too much for you, then leave. I just hate when people lecture others all the time about what to write, how to write it, etc. We all have differing opinions. It's a message board. There's good and bad posters. Deal with it or get lost.
Sure... we as a fanbase have to try to get some positivity snowballing. The irony is that is exactly what HFD started out doing. He took the "pump" flag and started running with it but when the season went to the crapper and we lost out to UL in the ACC race (again I'll say - out of anyone at UConn that result was 95% Jeff hathaway's fault, and in the scheme of things this was more FSU's doing anyway) the negativity started snowballing. That's what Herbst was talking about (at least in her email around christmastime, I haven't listened to the WTIC interview yet). Definitely taking a break once in a while is a good idea. But I think we should also consider what casual fans and UConn alumni (and recruits, commits, players and their families) encounter when they visit the boneyard for the first time... we're probably driving away some fans and who knows maybe some recruits. IF UConn starts winning football games at a better pace this will improve for sure, then we have to make an effort to get the positivity rolling again so we can prove our fanbase actually buys tickets, etc. One example being when #1 Louisville came there were still a lot of empty seats at the XL.

Guy you are one of the most melo dramatic overly sensitive posters on this board. Please, spare me.
Pot calling kettle black. Sensitive, sure. Melodramatic, no. You see me going nuts about our situation?

Kind of funny ZooCougar would like your post when he is actually one of the most melodramatic posters here. Sup, ZooCougar. Whining more?

Not two months ago you were singing the President's praises. Two months. What happened that night at her place that you're so bitter?

HFD finally woke up and now recognizes Susan for what she is: Out of touch and arrogant, at least as it relates to Connecticut athletics.

I completely agree. She was beyond awful. I was embarrassed as a UConn alumnus to hear the President of the University sound so completely clueless. She referred to Memphis as a legendary program or some such thing...her favorite sports are ones UConn does offer...Memphis and Temple and Houston are "great schools" fans are uspset not because we're headed to a lousy conference but because we won't be playign Syracuse any more...I get that she isn't going to refer to some of our new conference mates as glorified comminity colleges or say well, Memphis will always be pretty good since you get get a plant admitted if you want to. But come on. Send Warde Manuel. He can legitimately make the case for their athletics, argue that they are committed to making this big time. Talk about the commitment they made in Dallas. Or Calhoun. he can reassure folks about the basketball program. She was simply embarrassing. Two me 2 things were pretty clear form this. First, she doesn't really know much about athletics. She can only speak in platitudes about it. And second, the only reason it shows up on her priorities at all is because it must. But it isn't high and she doesn't much care about it. And maybe a 3rd thing...I get more and more of an impression that she is a micro manager, even of things she doesn't completely get.

From the sounds of all this, thankfully I missed it. But I'm a glutton, so does anyone have a link? Didn't see one on wtic's site...

yes

ahh, u really got me good with that jab. congrats. enjoy watching failure at its finest sports wise as u seem to be fine with whats going on.

this is a fabalous example for susan of what u have left fans wise. this guy will go to 3 football games next year but tell everyone how great a fan he is. he will buy walkup tickets to 1 of those games and the other 2 he will get for free from nice ppl with extra seats here. he wont buy any beer at the game becuase he only smokes weed, loads of it. he will wear a green shirt becuase back in 1937 the whalers were good and he likes to think the old days are still here. why at the game he will hear a guy a couple rows behind him yell at the defense and will stand up and reply "relax man this is just college sports, kids in africs have aids". he will make your school a ton of money susan, good to keep him around.

thank go she got the message this time. i can't wait for your 241 on my blow up. it will probaly start off with u blowing up your propane grill in the parking lot causing a lot of smoke and tailgaters moving. thanks god we dont allows charcoal otherwise we may have blown up the whole air strip in hartford if so. thank god were small time enough to no allow for good cooking. maybe we should just outlaw grills since football and ping pong balls are no nos also. why we are at it, lets outlaw folding tables. those usually have two legs under them and those could trip people when they are close to them. and lets take the private school approach to females. they must wear pants, no skirts becuase they like to roll them up above there knees. thats in bad taste as a fanbase. for basketball games since we can't have signs, we should also not allow people to wear shirts that say things. if your shirt has any graphics on them, you will be asked to cover it up. uconn will have duct tape at all entrances so this is possible. new recruiting rules now, we can not recruit any player who has tattos. if they get one while in college, they will be asked to put white tape over them, we want our athletes to look clean cut like ivy league kids.

if susan wants a hater blog, here it ing is.
the truth? this fanbase has all the potential in the college world. yet we can't get a sell out to small arenas and stadiums. the locals can care less and our brand and marketing make some high schools in texas look like the new york giants.
Dan

Things aren't so good conference wise but things can change. We are recruiting well despite not being with the big boys. They are takin away alot of big time bowl accessWorse case scenario is we domi nate this conference. we Beat Michigan and Maryland this year and schedule some big boys in the future. Then everyone starts to get the boise/tcu type syndrome where they are will want us to play with te big boys. It will happen but we got o hang in there as fans.

You aren't the same since u took off the husky suit.

Dan put on the husky suit !

There's plenty of over the top negativity recently and I'll take credit for my share. We can change that but I have to say that the reason for this buildup has been the unwillingness of everyone from the coaches on up to take credit for any of the failures we have loyally been witness to over the past year. for the second year the FB program has gone backwards record wise and affiliation wise. We've heard plenty about poor execution, lack of talent and circumstances beyond our control excuses along with now being labeled as haters. So we're supposed to buy all this and blame the decline of the program on a lack of our understanding of the coaching blunders during games. Not the inability to market the value of the University to prospective suitors, but maybe people arriving too late to their seats. At some point it would be nice to see someone somewhere stop throwing everybody including the fans under the bus and admit they had a hand in navigating the bus to it's current location. Most of us are just fans, but watching the board devolve into a bunch of whiners at each others throats conveniently deflects blame from where it belongs. Even if no one has the guts to come out and take some blame we still need to make an effort to avoid ripping each other or simply just take a break and come back when we have a little better focus on football news. I'm not trying to shut anybody down because I don't believe in that, just want to focus our passion in a more productive way.

Dan's no quitter. He'll be back.

No, he is a quitter. At least when the team is down. Like many fans, when UCONN starts winning, he will be back.
(Cue the "well I guess he will be back in 2025 then" jokes)
