went to putnam but cant recall if we actually ever offered him

He definitely brings good energy and toughness like his brother did, but think his shooting has a long way to go to be effective

He wouldn't be a bad player as the 4th guard, or 5th of you count AJ. I don't know that he would be the answer to be a real piece of the rotation. We seem to be after guards with more of a history of scoring.

You’re all nuts.

He’s awful.
We need a 4th or hopefully 5th guard. Ideally one that can play defense, as all 3 of our current guards should be able to score. He's got 3 years of eligibility left and improved in most areas from fresh to soph years. But as you noted, he still hasn't played super well overall, so may not have extreme expectations on playing time. His on/off and impacts stats are better than his raw offensive rating (top 20 guard defender in the portal according to Miya). Defense should just get better as he matures and improves his body.

So hopefully we've let Texas A&M pickup the tab for his development, and we get a serviceable glue guy backup guard. Instead of dropping down levels, he drops down to our bench.

lol…you all just spent the last week running over Jalen Gaffney and now you want to bring in this scrub? He literally does nothing well.

I cannot believe this website is free.
Defense, he does defense well. And you realize Gaffney shot worse from 3 and from 2 this past year, right? And that he's a year older with no evident improvement through his seasons here.

Gaffney transferred out because he didn't want to be the 5th guard. If this guy will do it, he's good enough for the role.

And yet you'll be the first one complaining if we don't fill all 13 scholarships or the guy who needs to play after an injury isn't ready. You're having a rough offseason

Petty posts like this are what happens when you take a victory lap 2 minutes into the offseason. Sad.

lol…stop.

This kid can’t play for Texas A&M and you want him here.

He can’t shoot, he’s not point guard and his defense is nothing special. There’s a reason his minutes were down as a soph - it’s because he’s bad.

I have never given a crap if we‘ve ever filled all 13 scholarships.

But keep whining.

We really need to make this board harder to find. Too much chaff, not enough wheat.

You are one of the 5 worst posters on this board. No one is psyched about this kid playing big minutes. Just as nobody would be bummed if Gaffney stayed as our emergency guard. The idea is that Castle reclasses, we land another impact guard we are targeting and we can keep it in the family with this kid as an emergency guard. Context matters .

The chicken littles were/are obnoxious but, on the other hand, I don’t think the Dan Hurley polyannas should be taking a victory lap or crowing at the pessimists yet either. Long way to go until a minute of basketball has been played and some are talking (hopefully in jest) elite 8.

Hopefully next year’s group can win a game in the tournament.

You guys have tripped over yourselves to kill Jalen Gaffney and now you want to bring in a kid who is worse…

Sounds like a heck of a plan.
He is not worse than Gaffney, but you wanted to keep Gaffney and Diggins and not bring in the two better players we just got. That sounds like an even better plan.

He played 28, 24, 18, 18, 19, 11, 15, 15, 25 in the SEC tournament and NIT when they went 7-2 and made the finals of both (8 top 100 opponents). We want him to play maybe 10 minutes as the 5th guard next year. And we're going to get a better, older version.

I think you're wrong about the D. Not arguing that his shooting hasn't been great. Don't want him to play PG.

Because Diarra would be the 12th man on the roster behind glass that says break glass in case of emergency. If Gaffney wants that role he can come back, but he won't, just like Diarra won't want it

Not expecting him to be the savior here, but he could be a good depth piece.
Couple things though regarding his stats from last year.

-A&M had 11 players who played double digit minutes last year. They went extremely deep on the bench
-Diarras average minutes went up in SEC tournament & NIT from 15 to almost 20
-Not the greatest shooter, but he was low 30% from 3. Hit at least 1 in 7/9 games.

Hes not a bad piece. I appreciate Gaffneys time here, but both of their seasons ended on different trajectories

I'm all for it, so long as he's willing to accept a limited role. Everyone we bring in doesn't need to be a high impact player. This guy brings energy and can certainly be a bench piece.
