Hi All. A co worker and I were thinking about trying some local “hidden gems” for lunch in the Hartford area. Looking to hit up about two per month within 15 minutes of downtown Hartford. As we compile our list, I thought I’d check in here to get some real boneyarders advice. Curious to see if you guys have any that we don’t have on our list.

Aqui Me Quedo on Albany Ave. Get the pernil with mofongo. IMG_4296.JPG

.-.
Hot and Spicy Chicken at Saigon Kitchen. Don't order anything else.
Chicken cutlet grinder at Cornerstone on Main St.
Cornerstone is walking distance from most Hartford offices too. The line can be a bit long, but it's good and cheap.

I don't like to eat too unhealthy at lunch, but Saigon's hot and spicy is real good too. I hate that it's cash only though.

MMs Gyros on temple street. Theres a couple gyro places in hartford but this one is on a different level.
I was just about to ask if that gyro place was still there. I haven't worked in Hartford in 6 1/2 years.

I liked both the Chinese food place and deli next door too, but I think at least one closed.

If you got a list, post it so we know for our own sake.

Mickey’s - east hartford
Hot oven panini - West Hartford
Cornerstone - Hartford
Franklin Giant Grinder- Hartford
Shady Glen- Manchester if feel like driving that far
Augie n Rays - East Hartford
Harry’s Pizza -West Hartford bishops corner
Black Bamboo- West Hartford
Carl’s- East Hartford

Honestly we’ll need a bears stop in there despite not being hidden.

Throw in Tangiers as well -Hartford

Just across the river is Mickey's (Oceanic Grill) in East Hartford. Get the fried fish sandwich, on sale M-W. Best value around.

The Kitchen @ Billings Forge has a good story and makes a nice sandwich. Enjoyed lunch several times there while I was on jury duty.

NY Market & Deli, 241 Asylum Street in Hartford.

Tucked away and nothing flashy, but a classic NYC style deli that makes some delicious sandwiches. Right across the street from the entrance to the XL Center parking garage. Good spot to grab a grinder on the go, or they have some tables outside during the summer. That's been my go-to lunch spot for a few months now, guys there are real chill too.

The food at City Steam is actually pretty good, plus you can get some great beer.

Dudes. What is the name of that old sit down pizza restaurant in Hartford wjth “Tavern” in its name. Known for its crazy eggplant pizza?

Anyway, that place. It’s fire.

edit: just remembered the name. FIRST & LAST TAVERN

I’ve had Wethersfields cutlet which was solid, but I prefer Franklin Giants chicken cutlet. Ask for it in the oven with peppers. Tender. Tasty.

Banana Brasil BBQ, they sell meat by the lb. The brazilian steak is just as good as Texas DeBrazil and 3x cheaper. Fast service, U can dine in and be out within 30 mins. They have parking also

Golden Krust if nobody mentioned it yet. I'm too lazy to read it all.
