Hey guys, I live near Hartford, and have some free time so I thought I'd make a site to help anyone unfamiliar with the Hartford area who is here for the AAC tournament. I love going to new cities but digging through message boards and yelp can be a pain.

My philosophy is anything to make CT look better to other fan bases and the media will help our hunt for a Big10/ACC invite.

I am really excited about the tournament in Hartford. That weekend has the AAC tournament, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, bar crawls, and a cheerleading competition all in downtown. The city should be packed and hopping.

So far the site covers The Tournament, The St. Paddy’s Day Parade, and Bars/Restaurants/Drink Specials with Entertainment/Museums/Places to See to come soon. Let me know what you guys think or what you would want to see more of.

You can find the site here: Connecticut Rising

Nice.

It's just my opinion, but I think if your goal is to make a travel guide of sorts, you should probably not mention that the people who are familiar with it like to make fun of it.

I'd just edit out the parts about people ripping on the city or hard times or whatever.

Keep it peppy, dammit.

Not a bad idea. I made the change, thanks.

I would add Bin 228 to your dining list. It's my favorite spot to grab a bite downtown. Nice little Italian spot with a very good wine list, varied menu of apps, lunches, small plates and mains, and very good service.

Great job...hopefully our visitors will find many enjoyable things to do. There should be something for everyone in the capital city! Whether you are an adventure seeker or just more of a laid back let things come to you type of guy/gal... the AAC Tournament and the Hartford County area should provide it all! I will be there enjoying every second of this event with other like minded and warm folks looking to watch some great hoops. Lets build some lasting memories that will last us a lifetime. :)

A small point that drives me personally nuts: you are either an alumnus or alumna of UConn. That is of course unless you are more than one person. Alumni is plural! (The latin grammar patrol will now go back to sleep)

What if he was Alumnae - would he be in a cocoon?

Anyway I have another question, how do people get to see that green grass from the tour boat and also, is that boat an ice chopper?

Once in a lifetime opportunities should be cherished as tomorrow is no guarantee. UConn playing for the right to dance in Hartford should be glorious. It is my hope businesses prosper. If the AAC Tournament were any place else we would have no shot. In my lifetime I have witnessed some great UConn games at the Civic Center dating back to the 80's and 90's.

In the end it is my sincere hope that all of us here on the BY can light a victory cigar Red Auerbach style and salvage our season.

It is time for the best fans in the United States of America to come together in unison to support our beloved UConn Huskies.

If he was alumnae I would suggest he might need counseling for gender identity and multiple personality issues.

There is going to be a downtown district development in North Hartford?

Please join us in harmony to support our beloved Huskies. My imperfections cast a wide net. This is a time to all come together and rock the Civic Center. Hope you can get to the games. We need you.

If the team gets past the first round I will be there. I am flying in Friday for family reasons and will be in CT through Tuesday of the following week, enough time to take care of family and basketball.

Thanks, I'll add it to the list.

And as for the alumni comment, I always forget it's plural, good catch.

And yea the downtown north district (or DoNo as Hartford is calling it) is where the new ballpark is going.

Correct, unless you're addressing any schizophrenic UCONN graduate(s), which is basically what anyone is doing in part when they post messages here. Judging from the content on this forum, most UCONN graduates that participate in this activity are schizophrenics, as I am, and so am I. See what I mean?

You gotta know where to get your kegs & eggs so I've updated with food/drink specials and of course the final bracket.

My last big update just went live, entertainment, museums, and places to see. I've listed everything from the Mark Twain House to the Casinos to Pepe's Pizza. I would definitely give it a look if you want to know where to go in the Hartford area.

Harrys is better than Pepes in West Hartford but I doubt people from Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, ect have have ever had a good pizza so it may not matter.

Great idea. suggestion: maybe add an 'a cab ride away' section.

If someone from somewhere like Carolina or Tulsa is asking me what to do in Hartford, I'm sending them down Franklin Ave to Carbone's for Italian food like they've never even imagined and over to Half Door for a pint after seeing the Twain House before I'm telling them to check out the Mexican place and the BBQ joint downtown.

And since it will be basketball fans that are the ones to visit, you can include the Springfield Basketball Hall of Fame.

Nice site, I like the improvements you made. Are you getting any hits outside of CT?

Couple corrections I see in there:

Food/Drink
1. It's Vaughan's and not Vaghan's

Places to Visit
1. In the Wadsworth section, some artist's names: Van Gogh and not Vango, Monet and not Mone. Is xxx an artist?
2. In the Bushnell section, you called it "Book of Moron" which gave me a chuckle.

Lol wow, I copied the unedited draft in. "xxx" was a placeholder for Jackson Pollock. I couldn't think of his name at the time.

Thanks for the help!

And yes I'm getting a good amount of hits from the other fan bases. I posted on the top AAC teams message boards (assumed they would be the ones most likely to travel) and have received a great response so far.

This got me thinking so I pulled the analytics. Top hits are CT, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. But I have had 17 hits from Russia. So I guess Hartford is going global! lol

Does it seem like, from those you've talked to, that people are actually traveling here?

I would imagine starting today anyone around the downtown area will start seeing other schools' apparel as today is likely the arrival date for many people. ("Many" being a subjective term of course.)
