Happy 40th The Big East

Zissou...the BE wasn't being called "provincial" my friend....

Provential is a modifier of rube.....Just diagram the sentence.

It’s amazing how many dumb UConn fans we have on this board.

UConn would love to be in the Big East

Would they (UConn the University) ?

I guess if UConn decides that they can not compete with Memphis, Houston, UCF, et al in basketball, and are in danger of losing their basketball culture...it could be a move.

They have talked with each other multiple times. They just can’t figure out where to park football.

Yeah, that's why the athletic department had to tell some shortsighted fans that's not happening.

We were "penciled" in as an invite to the ACC, were considered by the Big 12, conference realignment still far from over and some of our fans want to join the Big East. Who's dumb?
What’s dumb is you actually believe we are going to get into one of those conferences. If it didn’t happen when we were on top, why would it happen now? Is the ACC or B10 looking for programs who can’t even beat FCS level teams? If so then we are a lock!

I’m not sure “provential” is even a word. Please teach me of its usage.

3 conference wins. Yeah, that’s a brand program.

Tell that to our leadership. They'll laugh at you.

Because conference realignment has rarely been about on the field performance?

There is a St. Conon available....a simple switch from Uconn and fitting for a BE program.

Not necessarily. Besides Rutgers who got in that isn’t good? Pitt, Cuse, and Louisville all have good/solid football programs.

If UConn wants to take that next step they need to get serious with football. You can’t have almost 10 years of awful football and expect a conference invite.

That was in response to someone saying UConn has no interest in joining. Which isn’t true.
Until the Big East offers more media money and better exposure than the American, it makes absolutely zero sense to abandon our investment in football. Absent a sensible place to put football, those are the choices.

Louisville got in because of it's football strength, sort of. (Remember we actually beat them that year in a game shortly before the vote.) What that expansion really turned on was FSU flexing its muscle within the conference.

Remember that Connecticut was originally Cuses partner to go to the ACC. Pitt got in when BCU balked at Connecticut's invite. Those admissions were done at ESPN's direction were more about the evisceration of the Big than the were about football prowess.

Fully agree though that being an attractive football program enhances your bid.

But also in a larger context...that year UConn was 5-7 and Louisville was 11-2.

That triple OT game was a thriller....being upset dropped Louisville from AP #11 to 20. The Cardinals finished the season AP #13.

I’ll take provincial vs New England to Florida to Texas. Tulane!

...as opposed to New England to Nebraska? This isn't a bus game conference, either. Also, if you could get a Florida school, it would be picked up in a nanosecond.

If you are tired of crowds and want to go to a lonely place to be by yourself....try dropping by Villanova football boards.

Don't forget Milwaukee and Indianapolis.

How does this dingbat not get that we don't fit in with small private schools?

It’s true we are not a football conference. It is a basketball-first conference.

If UConn considers the Big East it won’t be for football affiliations, and it will only come with some acceptance that the P5 passed them over and that UConn wishes to return to prioritizing hoops and best positioning them for success.

Basketball or Football?

At FSU, it’s neither. 3 conference wins for its marquee program, and a spot in the Cuse woodshed. Ouch.

It’s not as tight as the nine team line-up of the 80s, but it is a conference with 2 regional centers. The original NYC/MSG base with New England, NY/NJ, Philly, and DC, and the Midwestern / Chicago subregion.

A good portion of our travel is close, and that’s logical for the Olympic sports as well.

I graduated from a Jesuit high school.

Please, get lost.
