The Houston kid was actually using his off-hand to hold Flagg's shorts is part of the reason. You can see it if you're looking and see the effect in the replay from a different angle.

Sampson mentioned in his courtside interview that the team was playing uncharacteristically tight. In a weird way being down double digits might have been the best thing for them. I mean it’s not ideal but a lot of times in those situations you can turn off your brain a bit and just relax and start to play. The pressure of the moment shifts to the team with the lead once the comeback starts.Houston was getting killed on the boards and then they started to string together some stops. Maluach got in foul trouble. Dukes guards were the secondary option which really hurts in March. It was a very odd game to watch because at times Houston looked completely overmatched.
I get your point but he’s not a poor college kid. He’s an 18yr old professional making many millions. My sympathies for ‘college athletes’ vanished with 7-8 figure NIL.As much as I dislike Duke, Cooper is the real deal, and it's pretty said that a young kid has to go through something like this. Coach would be a different story. AI can be up.
If we give him the benefit of the doubt, he may have had so much confidence in himself and who they were bringing in that he didn't think at all. Just assumed he'd win where ever he went.He made a choice that he valued Coach hugs and frat boy love over Championship culture and NBA development. This shouldn't be a surprise.
I'd take the championship ring and elite coaching myself...but he will always have that "Duke Brotherhood" patch on his letterman jacket at the Duke reunions, so kudos to him.![]()
Losing to UNC in both K's final home game and final game in the Final Four are right there too. We've been lucky to see many good ones latelythats the most glorious duke L I’ve seen not Vs Uconn
Very true. Coop now knows first hand that at Duke, it's relationships that are most important. Meanwhile, Houston is going to the Finals. No matter, we liked the ending and he may have learned a valuable lesson regarding what's really important. So everybody is a winner.
Same thing as 2004; the only reason Duke was ahead was due to the two nickel and dimers against Emeka in the first half, and then K was bitching about every single call down the stretch and blamed the loss on the refs. What makes this Dook loss especially satisfying almost 12 hours later is now listening to all the whining about the foul call.
First off, really?? Dook whining about foul calls???
#2, would never have been in that position without an EPIC choke.
But it’s never about Dook crapping the bed is it? Somehow it HAD to be some external force.
This will NEVER get old
I watched Duke’s last possession again and a poster nailed it…Flagg definitely got away with a hook that wasn’t called. So I don’t want to hear any of it from them.
He is as good as advertised. ESPN had that all queued up for championship pregame show. Darn! Haha.As an aside - I just watched the "recap" on ESPN of Flagg's season - I pretty much didn't pay attention to his year because I religiously avoid anything Duke - but holy S he is a great player - and for his age? WOW. Thank god he is going to the league...

True here too.Yeah before this, Flagg had both his hands holding down Roberts arm. And the ball came right there and Roberts couldnt use his arm.
It's a bit deceptive in the still. Roberts has thrown his left arm into Flagg in a perfectly legal way and Flagg is trying to maneuver around him. You can see Flagg's hands are open, not holding him. All of this is just natural contact that happens when contesting a rebound.True here too.

Direct Amtrak Portland to Hartford. Just sayin'.I was watching a segment on ESPN earlier today about all the Mainers who suddenly became Duke fans because of Flagg. I hope they don’t twist an ankle hopping off the bandwagon.
houston literally had the ball already when the foul was called and duke hadn't been able to stop them down the stretch. the foul did not cost them the game. What makes this Dook loss especially satisfying almost 12 hours later is now listening to all the whining about the foul call.

Did you get it on tape? Because by Monday it will seem like a fantasy. My wife and people around me were giving me crap for not having Duke going to the title game with 3 minutes left. “They always choke,” I said with a shrug.
I later got the rare “you were right” from the wife.
WowDuke had one FG the last 10 1/2 minutes of the game
