A 2018 freshman PG is a better
option. Our failure to recruit a successor to Napier while he was still here hurt us. Thank God RB stayed another year and did a credible job. But he was never the true successor. We did finally land JA in 2015-16 but had to depend on a true two at PG until he was ready.
But you are correct if we don’t land another stud PG . we absolutely need another guard .The failure of 2016-17 was too much dependence on Adams

So you're disagreeing, but actually agreeing... this is the problem here on this topic.

We all agree we don't want to commit to some 2 star PG who is going to stink and not be up to our expectations of a UConn player even if he stayed for 4 years, and we also don't want to have nobody who can handle the ball in case of an injury or even foul trouble... ergo, as soon as we feel we might not be landing anyone meaningful on the incoming freshman PG market, we have to reach out and find a transfer who can play immediately just so that our team can handle the ball

Priorities
1 Stud Freshman Guard
If that fails
2 Post Grad
We can’t be without a backup ball handler as Gilbert should be viewed as icing on the cake at this point .
Vital has improved but I won’t sleep well knowing he was our backup
Maybe another year

(Graduate transfer player win value) - (best possible last scholarship freshman season value) has to be > (last scholarship freshman as sophomore) - (alternate timeline freshman following season value).

I.e. the graduate transfer you bring in has to make a greater difference for your wins this season over a hypothetical freshman than the benefit of having that hypothetical sophomore instead of a different freshman the following year, bearing in mind that championship value isn't linear and marginal increases at higher numbers of wins are more important (aka going from 6 to 10 wins is less beneficial than going from 22 to 24). Also there is some sort of adjustment for continuity.

Graduate transfers make sense when:
A) The graduate transfer is that good and fills a need on a team expected to be competitive.
B) The recruiting options are that bad.
C) The following year's recruiting options are expected to be that much superior to this year's.

I'd add a little bit of nuance given our situation. It will help Hurley and the UCONN brand tremendously if we get off on the right foot and do well next year. I'd like to have as big an impact year as possible for future recruiting/perception purposes.

So let's get the best, highest impact guys on the court next year to generate as many wins as possible. UCONN has to show.

No. But frankly between summer classes before ever being a ft student, and the 2 summers and 3 winters after that, Plus a normal workload, it really shouldn’t be that hard for guys to graduate in 3 academic yeArs. Especially if they’re taking a red shirt.

That's what I'm getting at. He has 2 years of eligibility left. And he's a graduate. So either he graduated in 2 years, which is really hard on top of a D1 basketball load. Or he did so in three with the benefit of a redshirt year, which is doable.

I think he just decided to grad transfer, so instead of burning a year of eligibility he just went to class, didn't play for the year, and graduated. So it's like he spent the redshirt transfer year at his own school instead of the new school.

Ria'n Holland is the best of the bunch. He was originally on Wichita State, Went berserk after he transferred to Mercer. 47% from behind the arc is insane.

He's a redshirt junior. He sat out his freshman year.

But he said this about senior night, which makes it seem like he was not planning to leave:

On almost 6 3's a game is the insane part. That's double the amount of 3's that Giffey took when he hit 48%. Giffey pretty much only took completely wide open 3's.
 
For next year? I'm all about Grad Transfers in the sense you HAVE to fill some holes and believe it or not - depending on the pieces we have - we have an outside shot to contend for the conference. To me it just depends entirely on what Adams does at this point.If he's back - try to make a run. Grab a big, maybe a bench shooter and a bench PG if Akinjo waves goodbye for real. Then for next year - you're in good shape. Then it's full on with freshman until your face explodes.

If Adams comes back, and Larrier leaves, with no other transfers, we've got 2 scholarships. PG is number 1 need given Gilbert's uncertain situation (Akinjo ideal, but probably not happening). Then shooting. We need to be able to knock down shots.

I was very excited until I saw he shot less than 30% from 3 his last year. Everything else about his game looks pretty legit.

Ouch. That's not good at all. It seems like there are a lot of good 3-point shooters available though. I assume Hurley and his staff has a better handle on this than I do. Just hoping for the best.

Wouldn't turn him down on that though. I imagine with his particular injury, he's been taking a lot of jumpers.

He looks like a beast on the defensive end too.

He'd be great as a one year stop gap for us.
