I like Oats as a candidate if we need to go cheap because of finances. Hopefully that is not the case. He does seem like a coach with a bright future.

Someone like Oats would be the perfect coach in waiting if JC decided to come back for a couple years.

Buffalo plays at 9:40 on Thursday so we will all get to take a look.

You sort of knew they were going to lose when they approached it as though they were entitled not to have to be in the play in round and were surprised when their name got called for it. He expected to have three days of practice on the west coast before having to fly anywhere. Great attitude, and it showed on the court.

The people I was talking about getting caught up in a bidding war are DB & other decision makers. That who matters. As for my question to you being a silly hypothetical, most everything discussed in this thread is a hypothetical. Guess we just wait and see what happens.

It appears that Hurley has already gotten several extensions and compensation increases in his tenure at URI. One would therefore think he would be line for another which would mean he will be making quite a bit more than 1.1M were he to stay. Any contract to lure him away will have to compete with not what he presently makes at URI but rather what he would be in line to make.

Other interesting bit about his contract at URI is the 1.5M buyout were he to leave RI this or next year. He will have to be compensated at a new job such that that buyout is worked in to the numbers.

It would likely be a good hire for them but, due to Schmidt having spent time at RMU, it will not give Pitt the desired bump as he'll always have that "small time" stigma attached, locally. That really shouldn't matter, but they've taken a beating, both in town and nationally, so I think they're going to look for someone with a bit more juice that can bring some fans back and create excitement for the next year or two while the team still isn't very good.

Hurley got his last extension less than a year ago. Really tough to get the approval for another one in less than a year. So they won't be battling URI for money.

The buyout is a real thing. UCONN will likely have to pay it in some form or fashion.

Not much chance Oats would be interested in that (never mind the .01% chance JC returns). He just got a HC job, with a pretty nice pay day compared to his last gigs--at 600k base. He'd have to take a cut to come do that, what with moving his family and all that, I just don't see it. He could work his current gig, where apparently he and his family are happy, and get a major job offer in a few years.

If Hurley isn’t on the move quickly after URI gets knocked out, expect another offseason extension for him and the program at large at URI.

According to the article Hurley's contract got reworked at the end of both 2016 and 2017. It has happened the last two years and one might safely assume his success this year might warrant it again, especially if other schools are interested in him.
