Looked like a horrible crowd on tv. I was shocked when I read over 10,000 though that might have been tickets, not fannies in the seats. Awful game. they should institute a mercy rule in this league next year. Or running time, maybe. That team looked like a bad middle school league team.

...and thanks to the student section...all 20 of them.

Where is that link again, to vote for the best student section. Or is that the best section when playing at Gampel...or at Gampel against a ranked team. We complained a few weeks ago when there was a small snow storm and the buses from campus didn't run. What was the excuse last night. This is the conference we are in going forward, and these are the teams we will be playing. yeah, yeah.. I'm sure the student section will be full for Memphis...whatever

Lots of empty seats all artound the arena on tv. Small groups of empty seats along the sidelines down low and vast expances of empty seats in the upper decks behind the baskets. Can't say I blame people for not coming out to see such a bad USF team.
One of my biggest (of many) pet peeves with the XL is that the camera angle only shows the like $1000 seats right on the court that people rarely buy and certainly not for a Wednesday vs USF.

I simply don't get all the "awful game" comments. UCONN looked like world beaters and demolished a team we are just better than. USF played Cinci close, beat Alabama and Detroit, and while simply not a good team, we put together a complete game beat down. Great game as far as I'm concerned. These "awful game" people would have preferred a 76-75 final score???

The crowd came in late. The parking spaces were all filled. I had to confirm with someone that we were playing USF because of the crowd.

I'm not pissed. I'm merely making an observation that it was a lousy basketball game. I'd much rather watch a game that was 76-75 than a huge blowout. Obviously the opponent matters to some degree, but perhaps another way to put it is that I'd prefer both teams to play well. I think most people would have. Heck, even the announcers were board about 10 minutes in. there are times when a blowout can be fun, the 2004 National Championship game for example, but when a mid season mismatch like this one rolls around, it just isn't that interesting to watch. Sorry if that offends you. By the 15 minute mark of the 2nd half, even USF had stopped caring.

I fear we will never (strong statement) have another sellout in the XL center in the foreseable future. I think thoese days are gone. We would need a top ten out of conference game against a hated rival (Syrcause or Duke) would get it done, but not many other teams will get us over 14,000 again.

Watch the 1990 team video again, becuase those days are never coming back....and its sad. This statement is void if we get into the BIG soon.

So you would rather a 1 point win over South Florida than a 43 point win against South Florida, that's so freaking stupid.

Let's see what these two Saturday games v. Memphis and Cincy brings us.

Let's see what these two Saturday games v. Memphis and Cincy brings us.

I agree we will have better crowds, but the thrill gone for most fans. There are no longer games that are events, that you feel you have to be at; even if it meant you were in row ZZ. Instead, you can watch the game in HD from your couch.

This is the same conversation that we had about the Whaler's coming back. The fan support is no longer there as it was in the haydays, when both teams were turning around their fortunes and going from cellar dewellers to contenders. The new generation of fans are used to a winner and not the excitement of the climb. The old guard is getting old and moving away. Are fanbase is just not what it used to be. a good crowd for us now is 13,000 at XL and sold out at Gampel, but if its not a top team, we can't even sell out Gampel. It wasn't too long ago where Gampel was sold out just from season tix.

We want to build a brand new arena in downtown Hartford, but its not like the YUM center, where the campus is close to downtown and they can fill the building. The only way we build a new arena now is if it comes with a promise of a new conference and the new built in excitement of the fanbase.

Well I hope all of our games the rest of the year are lousy 40 pt wins....could care less if announcers board(?). Uconn imposed their will on USF defensively and with 3 legimate ball handlers on offense and Daniels healthy we are becoming a very good team.

Tough to buy bus tickets two days in advance when the ticket office is closed on Mondays.

I tend to agree with superjohn, altho I would hesitate to tell a BY'er that their post is stupid. Still, as I said, I much prefer UCONN to look great, no matter who the competition.

USF is still a D1 hoops team that played Cinci to a 7 point loss. Their loss to L'ville was by a similar margin to our. I loved the beat down and am with Hi-Low - we imposed our will on them, and did it on Ollie's terms. Loved loved loved it. I could seriously watch AND enjoy to the max 30+ point wins for the rest of the season leading into the AAC tourney and NCAA's, and be totally thrilled. The enthusiasm or boredom of the announcers has zero impact on how much I enjoy a UCONN beat down...

Saturday should be packed. Only 300 tickets left on Stub Hub, of course there will be a lot less people in the seats in comparison to tickets sold.
