lol Nice try but revisionist history is stretch in the digital age. Everyone has had the chance to see it, in real time and frame by frame. It is what it is.

Stef has thrown players aside. She did a couple of games ago it was, however, in direct response to being grabbed and shedding the player was more of pushing her aside not leveraging an arm.

Mazzante was beat up by being run into bodies and screens all night. By arms across her path and all the normal stuff. Nothing anything like the two Griner offenses and nothing that put her at risk. Someone compared it to being rolled in a dryer for 40 minutes.

I've seen a couple over the years. I remember Shea Ralph laying a player out with a forearm. Granted it was in retaliation for something at the other end, but when the player came down the floor Ralph just caught her with a forearm across the chest/neck and flattened her.
 
I personally wish we had a player that could fill the role of Stacey "BamBam" Hansmeyer. I remember her in 2000. She would go in to be the muscle.... Could you imagine if Heather Buck was sent in and just ran Griner over and that was her only play of the game. Of course Buck would have to beef up first.... but seriously....
 
sooooo Griner has taken the "most-hated" title from Diggins?

Barb Turner bumped and pushed Mazzante, she did not throw her to the floor ala Griner. Barb was a very good player, but not a star. If it was a foul I'm sure the refs would have called it.

Don't underestimate Heather. She is very strong and has a great base. A minute or two here and there to rest Steph while boxing out Griner, which she has been able to do effectively, would go a long way.
 
Gee, how come a few Baylor fans can't understand that when an opponent does stuff that might hurt a player and screw the team for many games as well, we think she is being unduly . [mod edit] The Christian Laettner of today -protected by the refs because you don't expel a star.

While Griner was young when Heather defended her well, I think Geno has pretty much decided she isn't good enough and like a lot of coaches, when he gets a certain bee in his bonnet, it kind of sticks. It wouldn't have hurt too much to see if she could have repeated some of that success and given SD some respite. For anyone not at the game or who might not have noticed, at a timeout midway through the 2nd half, as the teams left the court, there was a close-up of SD making a facial expression showing how winded she was (she was emphasizing panting for air, smile on face). But I don't think she was joking.

Yep, I saw that as well. I can't say enough about Steph's effort in this game. Her conditioning is amazing.

I think the problem with playing Heather is that neither Geno nor opposing coaches view her as a threat to score. I can't say that I argue with that assessment. So not only do we lose Steph's potential point production, but we also get added attention to other players from Heather's defender. I think it could work in tiny pieces. A minute before tv timeouts, etc. You just don't want to get caught with her out on the floor for long periods of time because the opposing team will take advantage of her limitations. I wish Heather could develop a short jumper or a reliable low post move. Just something to demand the defenders attention on offense. That would go a long way toward making her a more option attractive to Geno.

I didn't mean to suggest that Heather should see extended minutes. But giving SD a rest where at least maybe our defense doesn't suffer a lot from SD's absence is what I had in mind. SD is a terrific player, but she is a large person who is demanding a lot of herself in a game like that.
 
By the time Stef was hitting the wall, it was already too late to take her out (near the end of the game). If Geno had had confidence in some other post types (Kiah, Stewart, Buck, etc.), he could have subbed out Stef for them much earlier in the game, when even a loss of offensive firepower wouldn't have buried the game's chances.

Hindsight shows it might have been a decent idea anyway to try them anyway; I feel the same about not trying Buck in 2011 (final four vs. ND). But that's hindsight for you.
 
It's really too bad UConn didn't win, because it now sounds like whining and it reduces the impact of the bad sportsmanship of Griner that is now lauded as "good" aggressive basketball.
 
The discussion of Stef "faking" her "fall" is hilarious to me. Why would a 6'5" girl fall on purpose to the fall, not once, but twice?! While your at it Stef why don't you slam you head on the floor to really make it look bad!!

I rewatched the game tonight and right at the beginning of the second half Sims stole the ball from Hartley and while Sims was still in the air Hartley used her left arm to throw Sims to the court. And Sims wasn't too happy and all of her teammates came to help her up.

Quite frankly, there was much more intention by Hartley to take Sims down than there was in the play where BG was called for an F1.

Did anyone notice this play? If you have the game recorded check out the play at the about the 19:34 mark. I'm interested in the thoughts on that play. I think that play warranted an F1.

My opinion:

Sims was faking or perhaps she has a balance problem. She spends a lot of time on the floor.

I was hoping you would have a sense of humor about it.
I did not see the Sims/Hartley play and as my wife is sleeping in the room we DVR'd the game in I'll have to look tomorrow.

About a few months ago I read an interview Griner did with someone concerning her college life. After reading it I thought what a nice kid, just having fun in the prime of her life and how she has matured since her freshman year issues. After Monday's game I lost the respect I had for her. Dirty players play dirty. Good luck with that in the WNBA.
