It is amazing that he can be back on the court in 2020. Looking forward to seeing him play with the additional size and seeing if still has that quick hop.

So does this mean he's fully cleared to return or just in practice?

Knowing this injury I would guess we don't see him really log any major minutes until almost Feb. He should be checking in here and there in the next few weeks though. I'm sure Hurley will bring him back very slowly.

If he hasn't even played 5v5 in practice yet, I would be shocked if he plays in any games before logging at least a few practices. Most likely we won't see him until St. John's at the absolute earliest.

I'd expect quite a bit more than a few practices and a stringent minutes restriction when he does start up. My guess is right around the new year he'll be live in games.

this would be my guess, too

His primary attribute last year was his ability to jump high, quickly, and repeatedly. Was a force blocking shots and rebounding. Concerned that the achilles injury will make him less effective.

I think Hurley said he had already been doing normal practices but only in half court. Do they 5v5 in half court or is that 3v3?

I agree his physical attributes are a major part of his game, but he also has a very high basketball IQ, excellent timing on blocks, is effective blocking with off hand, and he has a very high motor. His value far outweighs just his physical attributes IMO.

This is just incredible news. I am so excited and happy for Akok that he appears to have recovered. He deserves every opportunity to be the best player he can. There are few UConn players I have liked as much. His effort level is just so high.

I'm also excited for the team. He's exactly what we need to alter our personality on defense and on the boards. This is bad news for the rest of the Big East.

Is anyone else feeling like our athletic training dept is top notch? Both Polley and Akok seem to be ready to return quite early by the standards in my head from injuries to other basketball players. That guy Dolan has been with the program for seemingly forever, I'm suddenly thinking he's an under the radar superstar for our team.

I'm super excited to get Akok back fully because I think this team really needs his heart/energy/enthusiasm. Specifically this year without fans in the stadium, you need those guys who are the biggest cheerleaders when they're in or out of the game. There was talk about how Bouk isn't really in the mold of Kemba/Shabazz as the 'heart' of the team's energy, and I fully agree with that.

I think BAdams gives a ton of energy, emotion and heart, along with Whaley and Akok and we will really need it because Vital was that guy for the last 4 years. Jalen Adams was similar to Bouk, like a Jerome Dyson type of stoic personality, we need those other guys to bring the emotion and get the rest of the guys up to that level to sub in for a rowdy crowd of students and help Hurley a bit since we know he'll be going nuts on the sidelines

In honor of Akok being cleared and the upcoming matchup with USC..

Here’s highlight of Akok balling, swatting, and dunking on the Mobley brothers
edit: Also #6 overall pick Onyeka Okongwu

I really think he is our missing piece. I know it will take some time, but want to see this lineup:

Cole
Bouk
Martin
Akok
Whaley

Like this lineup eventually especially if Akok improves offensively.

Right now just replace Akok with Polley or maybe Jackson if he matures.

There were games at the beginning of last season where he was the best player on the court and looked like a definite NBA talent. He definitely struggled with consistency, but if he can get back to being close to 100% athletically and improves his skills, he will be a big factor.

How devastated the team was last year when he got hurt, & how much his brothers seem to love the kid, the energy when he checks in the first time will be INSANE. Only thing that sucks is that he won’t get to do it in front of fans

If he can even be average on offense he's an NBA player. No... if he can do nothing but shoot 35% from 3 and not turn it over.

His defensive versatility is a valuable NBA skill set.

Kid deserves every good thing that happens to him.
