Player Enhancement Coach is a funny title, but I think the job is to keep young players out of trouble.Current Charlotte assistant of some type Kemba Walker
Liam secured a 4yr/14.1m dollar contract (last 2 yrs are options so guaranteed money is around 5.7m for the first two years). Confirms it was the correct choice to leave and also is guaranteed money vs. a 2nd round pick.Is it?
It was definitely still the right choice to leave, but the 1st round vs 2nd is a valid discussion. For example Tyler Kolek got $6.6M guaranteed last year as a 2nd rounderLiam secured a 4yr/14.1m dollar contract (last 2 yrs are options so guaranteed money is around 5.7m for the first two years). If you asked 100 end of 1st round/2nd round prospects if they'd rather have ~$5.7M guaranteed or nothing guaranteed but a CHANCE to get a little more going in the 2nd round, I think 99 would pick the $5.7M in the bag.It was definitely still the right choice to leave, but the 1st round vs 2nd is a valid discussion. Most of those 2nd round deals are negotiated before the draft even happens, teams want to know or at least have a rough idea of what it'll take to sign those guys before they pick themIf you asked 100 end of 1st round/2nd round prospects if they'd rather have ~$5.7M guaranteed or nothing guaranteed but a CHANCE to get a little more going in the 2nd round, I think 99 would pick the $5.7M in the bag.

I mean he should be able to earn some good PT.....no Reed Sheppard situation I'm thinking.Yeah but….hes on one of maybe the three worst franchises in the league. I guess it is if its just a money thing.
Also, Kolek's deal was $6.6M guaranteed over the first 3 years, so on an annual basis still less than the last 1st rounder gets. Most of those 2nd round deals are negotiated before the draft even happens, teams want to know or at least have a rough idea of what it'll take to sign those guys before they pick them
But, Cliff’s career turned out ok. “Uncle Cliffy!”I'm starting to get Cliff Robinson draft vibes.![]()
Well he’s getting paid that AND playing basketball so not the worst life on the world. For that kind of coin I’d come and fight off any bears shtting in your yard.Yeah but….hes on one of maybe the three worst franchises in the league. I guess it is if its just a money thing.
Yeah, no need to deal with classes and college student life, just 100% basketball now.Well he’s getting paid that AND playing basketball so not the worst life on the world. For that kind of coin I’d come and fight off any bears shtting in your yard.
What is the guaranteed money at 29 and compare the money he would have made with NIL and the impact of improved possible draft position next year?Def, take the guaranteed money on a team that has PT wide open. Charlotte wants shooting and they invested into it. All they need is stability with the GM and coach, Liam will do the rest.
Next year's draft class is pretty loaded too. Have 2 projected All-NBA players in Dybansta and Patterson. Then the Boozer twins, Nate Ament, Alijah Arenas, etc. Even if Liam came back and had a BEPOY type season, very possible he'd still be a fringe lottery pick as he'd have 1 more year of tread off his tires. Not to mention the injury risk. What is the guaranteed money at 29 and compare the money he would have made with NIL and the impact of improved possible draft position next year?

I think if he was told "you are gonna be drafted end of 1st round and it's possible you may fall into the 2nd" he would have seriously considered coming back for another year. But pretty much everyone thought he was solidly #15-25 pick material (except a few 5D-chess playing BY'ers who thought he was mid 2nd round), with still an outside chance of going in the lottery. Pretty much no one had Liam as a 2nd rounder. Unless you expect to be a top 5 pick, if you're told you're pretty much guaranteed middle of 1st round pick, you go.He was projected to go anywhere from what, 13-20? Roughly? To him, that was worth leaving school. Would he have left if he were projected to go 29, which implies he could’ve fell to the 2nd round? I kinda doubt it.
Still, there’s not much sense in applying hindsight because he made a decision that worked best for him given the facts at the time.
Having said all that, if he had come back and wound up turning in a BEPOY season, that heavily implies the incoming class and roster would’ve made a deep run in the NCAAT. Fringe lottery pick implies what, 12-15? That would’ve been an acceptable outcome.
People scoffed at the idea he would go low, when any pair of honest eyes saw it coming. He’s lucky he didn’t fall out of the 1st round. I hope he thrives but I’m not seeing much more than a journeyman on a good day. He just doesn’t have the physicals to hang with NBA super freaks.Given where he ended up being selected you could argue that leaving Storrs early may not have beennoptimal, but it clearly wasn't a terrible decision. I do wonder if so many of his high school teammates leaving early influenced his decisions. I could understand him wanting to keep pace with his peers.
Wishing him all the best and will watch him get buckets at the next level.

His end result of going #29 is actually pretty similar to Karaban's projections last year, as he was in that late 1st round/early 2nd round range. Then Alex came back for another season and it didn't go the way he wanted (including getting injured), so now he's gonna be a Husky for a 4th year.
Now that Liam's in the NBA on a guaranteed contract, hopefully he can flourish.

Eventually the dam broke and tears flowed, you could tell he was relieved and excited. Go get em Liam!As the title says - "Good luck Liam !!" in the NBA . I'm sure he will do fine.
He was very humble and smiling as he was the last one picked from the room. He didn't show he was upset or angry like Mr Wolf.
Clingan's deal at #7 is literally TWICE as much (4yrs $31.1M). Staying at UConn for an extra $17M seems like a better option IMOLiam secured a 4yr/14.1m dollar contract (last 2 yrs are options so guaranteed money is around 5.7m for the first two years).
