He was better than Brimah today. Aside from the 2 early blocks, Brimah was playing like it was Easter Sunday and he didn't want to get his new dress wrinkled.

It's just an observation.

Today's problem is that Ollie was out coached.
That's a lazy assessment. Up seven late in game RB drives to the lane, SMU defense collapse, he kicks the ball out to a wide open DD who rims the ball. SMU comes down the court, Moore drives into the lane, UConn defense collapses and Moore kicks the ball out to a wide open Sterling Brown who makes the shot. Same play, same execution. Only difference is the ability to make the shot. Not out coached. Not out played. Just one team shooting better than the other team.

Brimah had 8 Rebs & 3 Blocks. Nolan had 6 Rebs. We actually out rebounded them according to the box score.

That one sequence doesn't't mean that KO wasn't outcoached by Brown. Brown took away everything that Bazz wanted to do all game long. Ollie never made a counter move to the Brown defense. SMU ran better offense and got any more clean lay ups than the Huskies.

But this thread was a compliment for TO who deserves more minutes and has IMHO shown to be out toughest interior presence. He looked good today.

Olander and Nolan both present the same problem for UConn. UConn seems to play tough man to man defense and funnel the ball in toward the shot blocker. Problem is both Nolan and Olander offer basically no threat to block a shot. Nolan doesn't seem to have the instinct for it, and Olander has alligator arms.

Brimah picks up way too many silly fouls off the ball. Just needless pointless fouls that limit his minutes.

Agree that TO gave good minutes. He wasn't the reason the team lost. Just don't buy the out coached statement. Bazz was played tightly but there were a lot of opportunities to make wide open shots within the flow of the game and no one could make shots. LK had three open looks and failed, DD had wide open shots and missed, same with NG on the perimeter. The cold shooting allowed SMU to collapse the defense and play SN more tightly. They start hitting shots and the SMU defense has to make adjustments. That's not bad coaching by KO or being out coached. That's just a situation in which the entire team gets cold at the same time. Lucky for Brown and SMU. Not taking away from their stellar defense but they had a lot of help. Unlucky for UConn.

It gets tiring reading about Ollie being outcoached after every loss. This team has flaws. When your leading rebounder is your point guard that shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Sometimes open jumpers just don't fall. That is what today's loss was about. It wasn't cause Larry Brown coached some great game.

8 Rebounds? I sure as hell didn't see that many. Maybe it's time I go to the optometrist.

Ollie was out coached, but so what? lots of great coaches have been out coached by Larry brown.
His getting out coached isn't what lost the game.

Sometimes coaches are out coached by the opposing coach. This game wasn't one of them imo. Some fans have different perspectives about this and will x and o the game to prove points. Those arguments are about perspectives. But some fans want to make statements to punish a coach, which is their primary if not exclusive intent. Saying KO was out coached affords this type of fan the opportunity to diss the coach because said fan is angry about the out come and said fan hopes to create an environment of hostility to the coach. I'm not saying Palatine is necessarily guilty of this but you and I both know this is a method we employ when we want to punish someone.

I think it was less out coached and more bad matchup. SMU, provides a terrible matchup for us. They are big underneath and have quick big perimeter players. This causes a problem for our small guards.

Brown played Bazz and Boat tight to limit them, his gambit was that the other players needed to prove that they could step up. If the forwards and 5 man exploit SMU the gambit fails and Brown goes to plan B. Trying Olander maybe came late, but he did not solve the defense when called on, either.

Our 5s mostly score when fed bunnies by the two guards Brown was taking away. So, the answer had to be DD, LK, NG, OC. KO got them open looks, but they missed.

Fortunately, most teams can't clamp both our guards. Bazz is sublime and Boatright, I think, is improved.

But, Bazz being neutralized seemed to cause spirits to sag. The 3s, 4s and 5s have to relish the chance to play bigger roles and make the shots.

KO seems to have emphasized driving to the hoop for several games and the guards were forcing up bad shots just hoping to get to the line. The confident game beyond the arc that characterized our early games needs to find its way back into the repertoire.

They were out coached but that's okay it's Larry Brown. He had 2 - 3 guys surrounding Shabazz the whole game. He basically said "Bazz isn't going to beat us let's see who steps up" and guess what - it worked. Bazz didn't react to it well and neither did anyone else.

Lets make this short and sweet. Daniels turns himself OFF when he misses his first 2-3 shots. Giffey needs to just shoot the DAMN BALL, and boat right needs to take the shots he has as well. I was hoping for brimah to stay in the game but his fouls are ridiculous sometimes but we get that he's new to the game. Just a bad performance today and completely outmatched.

Brimah should be playing tons of minutes if he can keep from fouling out. We need to develop him to be a contender. I don't ever criticize Ollie but the one thing I think JC would have done differently is play Brimah from day one. JC loved to develop "awful" big men to our dismay only to have them performing beyond expectation late in the year.

I love Brimah and think he should be playing big minutes every game if he can stay out of foul trouble. But I have to say that Olander's play was one of the few positives yesterday. Nice to see him play well.

Brimah is a positive defensively whenever he steps on the court. Nolan had an awful game. He has turnovers and forced shots. TO have us good minutes. He sat fro at least three consecutive halves. He has earned a few more minutes.
