His FG% dropped to 83%. Looks like we're safe. No way a German pro team offers him now.

question, with the tourny going on a couple more weeks, will this effect his ability to get back to academics in time? How does this all work?
From Dom Amore.

If Germany advances, Giffey could be there until late September. He is enrolled at UConn for the fall semester and is keeping up with classes on line; UConn coaches believe he will have no trouble with make-up assignments when he gets back. Giffey has always been a solid student.

From what I saw yesterday, Germany will have a lot of difficulty advancing. They need to finish 3rd in a field of 6, but Belgium, France and Ukraine will likely get those spots.

Game time today vs. Ukraine is 8:30 am EDT. Anyone know where we can follow the game stats?

Niels came off the bench and drained back to back 3s.

those midget pgs on Germany stink. Really like that benzing guy though

Another 3 for Giffey. 3-4 right now with 9 points. 7:00 left in 2nd quarter.

they're getting killed now but Niels having a good game

Giffey, Napier, Daniels, Calhoun,RB... Is there any other team in the country with a set of 5 knockdown shooters like that? Clearly a strength of ours. We should shoot a lot of threes

Giffey gives them a 1 pt lead with a 3 with 3:25 left.

Giffey had a great game. Knocked down a bunch of nice shots and played tremendous defense as usual. Had a nasty block in the second half playing some nice help defense down low. Shame for Germany's team that their point guard's decision making makes Russ Smith look like the basketball equivalent of a Rhodes scholar

Shame for Germany but not for UConn. Good result.

They needed dennis shröeder in there dishing to giff

Gonna be really worried until he's back stateside.

Some interesting links for you really desperate junkies.

Check out the twitter hashtag #Giffey. Germans love him.

If you have Chrome, you can loosely translate this article, which talks about Giffey's value on the German National Team, His versatility, a small blurb on his run to the NC with UConn, and the buzz that is developing around him back in Germany.

Hard work for the NBA dream

While several EM driver by the expected reinforcements coming summer by NBA rookie Dennis Schroeder and Co. play in Slovenia for their future in the national team, Giffey should have this place safe. "I appreciate him his versatility," praised Menz. "He is the prototype of a shooting forwards who can also throw in half-distance, from dribbling with his back to the basket, which can triple throw." Moreover Giffey convinced with his defense, is also struggling offensively at any rebound. "Actually, he has the whole package, he just has to be physically stronger," said Menz. Even for a dip in the best league in the world would have to be the youngest starter lanky body still upholster something. "It is a narrow path," Giffey said to his NBA aspirations. "I have the prerequisites for it, but have to work extremely hard, that I have a little chance." He hoped, "to apply for me" after his upcoming college last year on a training at an NBA club. And that dreams can come true, Giffey experiencing in Slovenia. (AP)

Experience alone will get NG 15-17min. I do have concerns that Boat and Bazz may make it tough for him to get the ball in his sweet spots. The ball has to move via the pass rather than the dribble. It could be a difficult task to play zone against us.
