Ollie has been taking on challenges his whole life, that when that certain one comes knocking , I don't think there's anyway he turns it down.

One of the announcers was pimping KO for an NBA job at the beginning of the game.

Billy Donovan had a chance. Where is he now?

Obviously he deserves any chance he has presented to him-he has earned it. I think he REALLY values the idea of "team" and being a mentor for the kids, that could go a long way. If he has a great run at UConn he will have no trouble getting 2.5-3m a year and the chance to keep helping kids grow into young men. I think that counts for a lot with him....enough to pass on 6-7m a year? I don't know. I DO think he is genuine, not like an Urban Meyer who "preaches" caring about the kids, but who is actually slime.

If we can get our school into the B1G, affording him won't be an issue.

If Ollie has success at UConn of course he'll have an opportunity to coach in the NBA. But JC and a lot of other excellent college coaches also had that opportunity and stayed in college. So not even worth worrying about at this point.

LOL at Goodman. Last year around this time he wrote an article that Ollie was destined to fail at UConn. He's such a DB.

Our coach used to be too old. Now our coach is too good.

We just cannot win.

In all seriousness, they're right - unless the NBA is purely crazy, somebody is coming for Ollie with their checkbook out.

Maybe he goes, maybe he doesn't. We'll deal with it when it happens.

Did he have opportunities to be an asst. coach in the NBA before taking the UConn job?

I don't see him leaving. This guy lives and breathes UCONN basketball.

Yup, everything he's ever said indicates that this is where he wants to be. He sees himself as (and is) a molder of men, and you can't do that in the NBA. Plus he bleeds more blue than the entire population of the Boneyard added together.

The yammerers can yammer, that's what they get paid for. But if there's one person on earth I trust to speak the truth it's Kevin frigging Ollie. And from everything he's ever said he's going to be our coach for a long, long time.

OKC wanted him to stay with the organization after his last year, Sam Presti didn't specify in what capacity when he spoke about it in articles following KO being named HC but it would've more than likely been in the Monty Brown/Jacque Vaughn/Tyronne Lue capacity as an assistant coach in charge of player development.

Yep. I don't think he wants to be anywhere else. He planted roots here years ago. This is home for him.

In a fairly recent interview, JC reflected on opportunities for more money over the years and he said he decided "how much money do I really need". I can easily see KO being that type of guy. My guess is, KO would never leave while JC is alive out of respect.

If anyone questions whether ESPN is out to get UConn, re-read those two tweets.

Kevin Ollie would never move to the NBA. He is so invested in this program that I'm almost worried that he has no life outside of UConn...

As I've said before, we'd be naive to dismiss it as a possibility. We all know Calhoun had several chances to leave and stayed put - Ollie appears to be an extension of Calhoun on and off the court, so that part is promising. But, can you imagine a chance to coach Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in their primes? That would be difficult to pass up if the opportunity ever presented itself.

Ollie may or may not leave for the NBA. I wish him the best no matter what he does. My problem is with ESPN's non-stop pimping of anything negative about UConn.

To think.....

It was just a year ago, at this time, when the debate was still raging as to whether a young, otherwise unproven D-1 level assistant coach, with only a few short years of assistant coaching experience, had the necessary, transferrable skills to be a successful coach at UConn's level.

Wouldn't a jump to the NBA be a true kick to the nuts to Jim Calhoun? That guy went to war for KO to be the coach. KO is loyalty personified.

Christ can the guy coach ONE SEASON when a championship is even within the realm of possibility before the media starts with this crap?

Can UConn fans just enjoy having him around for a damn minute before we have to hear about him being the next coach of the Phoenix Suns?
