Some thoughts on the Georgetown game:
  • The Conference Tournament is here. UConn fans should see a tighter rotation and sharper execution as the Huskies ramp up for the Big Dance. I don’t necessarily expect a bunch of blowout wins as opponents improve, they are playing for tournament invitations, seeding and the desire to finish strong, although today’s game was a pretty one-sided beatdown.
  • It feels like each half doesn’t really start for UConn until after the Huskies score their first basket and lock into their full court press, after which it becomes pure hell for UConn’s opponents.
  • Serah may never be a great back to the basket post player, but she does run the court and fill the lane exceptionally well and, unlike many BIGS, she can defend out on the floor.
  • With her mom & dad in attendance, Blanca was clearly trying too hard at first. But she settled down in the 2nd qtr and started to do Blanca things, which were pretty amazing. 😎
  • Allie & Kayleigh are the two best “backup guards” that I’ve seen anywhere in the country. When they sub in for the starters, UConn loses almost nothing at either end of the court! 😁
  • Strange game for both Sarah and Azzi. They certainly made their share of plays. But neither one dominated the game, and that’s probably a very good thing as UConn's balanced scoring doesn't allow opponents to attempt to take away any one player.
  • Georgetown is probably the most physical team in the conference, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But at this point in the season, I’m very happy that UConn got through this game without anyone getting injured.
  • I suppose there are a number of things UConn could have done better today. But it's hard to argue with the Huskies relentless defense that held the Hoyas to 39 points. I'd like to give you Georgetown's shooting percent and the number of turnovers that UConn forced. But the live stats cut out in the 3rd qtr......
  • Jana is not getting a lot of PT. But she's keeping herself ready to play and she's making the PT she does get count. Jana is like an insurance policy that I have to believe is going to pay dividends in the postseason against some of the BIGS that UConn will inevitably face.
  • So is Geno growing a goatee? I guess he’s trying to dispel the idea that he’s getting soft in his old age…🙄

Overall a really solid game. A couple of offensive lulls - but the defense was elite. Not playing for a week, not quite sure what to expect.
  • Serah - 2nd game in a row where she's played really well. Her aggressiveness will be needed
  • KK was a menace
  • Blanca really played well
  • Allie had a solid game
  • Kind of off game for Sarah and Azzi, but great chance for everyone else to step up
  • Kelis showed a lot in her limited minutes
Biggest cheer of the game Carol's 3 late in Q4. Good for her! Loved seeing that! The bench was excited and Gandy went nuts. Can't tell me she's not invested or happy! Just a really good game after a week off. Way to go UConn!!!

BTW on edit, forgot to say, loved Fanta calling UConn the best basketball program in the history of women's college basketball - twice.

-Playing a rested UConn team without anytime to prepare was a big ask for Georgetown (I’m not sure any team could answer that call)

-Geno calling somebody “dude” during the timeout is one of my favorite moments of the year.

-A rare site, a lineup on the floor without K9 or KK. Not sure who the “point” was but they managed.

-As well as Serah played, there was still a lot of meat left on the bone. Love the focus and energy though.

-I am not convinced this year’s small lineup rebounds as well as last year’s group.

-A staple of Peacock’s broadcasts-showing replays and missing scoring plays. You would think a year of producing games would address that. Not yet.

-Kelis Fisher’s breakaway layup gets my vote for play of the game.
-Love the bench reaction to CD’s 3.

-Georgetown’s physical play is not unique in WBB. I have watched a lot of games this week. Physical play is the norm. I am glad Geno got the starters out early.

I am disappointed that the stats mostly didn’t work the whole game.

On another note, I thought the commentary was dire today. They refused to provide play by play for the action taking place on the court. Instead they recited stories that regular viewers have heard countless times before. Really bad!

.-.
You could drop Allie and K9 on a team like Penn State and they would probably be an 8/9 seed in the NCAA tournament. They have really good chemistry and I think Geno should try to play them together as much as possible.

I also like the firepower of an Azzi + Allie lineup. We saw it at times look pretty good in the first half. In the second half; Azzi and UConn went cold from the perimeter.

I'm not sure what was going on with Serah being called for that Flagrant 1. She did hook the player, but I thought that the player started to duck, and then ended up on her back on the court, and smacked her head on the court.
Seriously, I guess I missed Serah's elbow to the back of her head that the announcers were talking about and even suggested that it should be a Flagrant 2!

Peacock is a clown operation. The game has been over for 15 minutes and there are no stats posted anywhere after the first half. Embarrassing not to have backups. Hopefully someone was keeping stats by hand in an old-fashioned scorebook. And if you're not showing ads, why not just stay with the broadcast instead of the annoying repetitive music(?) they play during breaks?

The stats system went down in the arena, not just Peacock. I was following ESPN's play by play feature while watching the game & it only updated the score without listing the players who were involved.

I've got nothing but a joke: Where did the offense go this game?

The stats were provided by the Big East, not Peacock

The stat feed at the arena broke down so all of the second half was not operating. That stat line feeds all the peripheral sources-ESPN, Yahoo, Peacock and such.
I am at the arena and it was very frustrating and then the speaker system didn’t work when announcing the Flagrant one on Serah so many were left
Wondering what occurred. Georgetown was VERY physical and the refs let too much occur and then started calling fouls in the 4th. Geno smartly subbed early and often to keep the team fresh for the 3 games in 3 days format.

Glad I didn't pay Peacock anything today or in the future. Watched the entire game, with a few minor cutaways on YouTube as the game was in progress.

Big East stats page for the win .. not.

Few Thoughts:
*Everyone ate
*The defense of UConn is crazy good!
*Serah had a real good game but is so frustrating at times because her hands are not strong...she'll need better grip on the ball for the next level.
*Blanca is our "Ecuadorian Freak" 😀aside than her amazing basketball skills, i love her basketball iq
*Just an ok game for Sarah and Azzi...it seemed rims were not kind to Azzi and Sarah missed some shots she typically makes with her eyes closed
*It seemed that Ash couldn't hit any shots
*KK was great. I would think that the opposing players just hate seeing her coming to gourd them as she is absolutely relentless
*Kellis lay-up was the most impressive basket in the game
*I was surprised that Jana entered the game so late but she played pretty well in those minutes. I think she'll be crucial against teams like Oklahoma, Texas and especially UCLA if we get to play any of those teams.
*The UConn rotation is clear: after Sarah, Azzi, KK, Serah and Shade, Blanca is first of the bench with Allie and K9 following. I would assume that in the big games (aside than those big teams), those ar ethe players that will play the whole game (unless it is a blowup).
*What other team can bring off the bench high quality guards like Allie and K9 that would start for most of the teams in the nation
*All in all a good win for UConn but i think the next game UConn will be even better (with Sarah and Azzi playing more like the AA's they are)

Reading the comments, guess I’m not the only one who feels relieved that we escaped with no injuries. G’town reminds me of the Central Florida teams when we were in the AAC, trying to make up for their lack talent with physicality. Hacking and mugging not my kind of basketball. On to Sunday.

ESPN still does not have a box score up
It's due to the Live Stats not being available from the Big East for the entire second half.
If it was a problem with the stats not being broadcasted and not with the recording of the stats, they may be available to sports outlets at some point. Otherwise it will be interesting to see what happens with no official recorded stats.
