Some thoughts on the Georgetown game:
  • The win today over Georgetown is UConn’s 30th this season, extending the Huskies all-time record of 30-win seasons to 29, twelve ahead of 2nd place TN’s 17.
  • Georgetown came out executing their offense well and knocking down 3’s, trailing only 21-20 after the 1st qtr. In the 2nd qtr UConn ramped up their defense, outscoring the Hoyas 27-5….Game over.
  • Blanca’s quickness and ability to pressure the ball on defense is a game changer whenever she’s on the court, usually defending an overmatched forward.
  • I know it’s never been UConn’s way, but I wonder what it would look like if the Huskies ran their offense to get 20-25 shots each, per game, for both Sarah & Azzi? 🧐
  • UConn does as good a job as any team in the country of taking advantage of what I would refer to as “opportunity double-teams” wherever and whenever they present themselves on the court. It felt like the Huskies forced a dozen tie-ups today.
  • I'm not sure what exactly UConn is trying to accomplish with their "twin towers" having Serah & Jana on the court together. It's certainly not the same as Steph & Stewie. 😬
  • A quick comment on the NPOY. Blakes and Vandy are locked in a battle with Bama where she will play 35+ minutes and put up 25+ pts. Sarah played 23 minutes, scored 13 pts on 5/10 shooting with 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 0 turnovers, 1 steal & 1 block. Who are you going to vote for?
  • In his pregame presser, Geno had very good things to say about where the team is right now, specifically regarding the team’s health. Nothing is as important, as the Huskies get ready for the postseason, then having a deep, talented and healthy roster.
  • I’ll be taking a bite out of the Big Apple on Sunday to watch UConn & St Johns at MSG. I’ll thank another BY in advance for initiating the postgame thread.

.-.
She only played two minutes but I love it when Kelis comes it. How many times have we seen the second team struggling in the fourth, with the ball sticking on offense? Enter Kelis and next thing you know, she's driving to the basket, pulling up in the lane, launching from three. Some go in, some don't. But it's like Drano clearing out a sink clog. Things move!

This team is very pedestrian without Strong. And they are out of sync. It is time to shorten the bench. Blanca needs a ton of PT because that long layoff has really hurt her game.

Were we just sluggish in the first period or were they really on? Actually lots of good things in the box score. Q's steals to t/o ratio 4 to 1. Pretty good. Though I wonder why rebounds are light. Has Sarah broken her spirit or is she just playing mostly out of range? On the first period, we have done this more than a few times. Regular season OK. NCAAs no so OK. We may go into the NCAAs with the most rested starting 5 in college ball. Wondering some on KK in this game. Sareh hit a couple of shots but didn't stay long. In 3 minutes Kellis sure got things moving. Allie decided to slump. Kayleigh and Ash just keep on trucking. Has Sarah gone into a minisophomore slump. I know, she was a rebounding fiend. Am I a spoiled Husky fan? Absolutely, but it is all their fault.

I will take the heat on this, but Blanca should be starting over Serah. Also, Jana should be the first big off the bench.
Wish KK would look for her shot more.
Another great win.
It doesn't show in the mere formalities of the Big East, but in the end Serah's defense will prove a key to winning a championship. Both in the half court (where UConn will face actual competitive frontcourts) and in the press (where her quickness is a big factor in intercepting longer passes and her length helps negate breaks after teams beat the press too efficiently).

A bit of a lackluster game. We shot below our averages on FGs, FTs, and 3-pointers. Highlights included Azzi with 24/5/4/4/1, Sarah with 13/11/7/1/1, and K9 with 11 points on perfect shooting. Jana also had 4 points on perfect shooting--a swish from the baseline and 2 swishes from the FT line. Let's make a good showing at MSG!

Win NO 30. , From 2001 to 2026 , this is Uconn's 23rd 30 win season , including 2---- 40 win seasons. No body close. When Uconn wins out, this year will be their third 40 win season, only matched one time by Baylor U. Uconn is in a world of their own and every team is trying to catch up with Uconn. Won't happen as long as Geno is the coach and I hope he signs another 5 year contract after this one expires.GO GENO!!!!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!

I think, Oldude, that its just to figure out how it would go if some coach threw twin towers at us. I'm thinking youre not gonna see Jana and Serah together as an answer.

One thing I also noticed is that Jana parks herself under the basket ( and I mean right under the basket) for defensive rebounds. The only way to catch that ball is if it goes right thru the bucket.

K9 looks like she is working on her shooting. 100% tonight: 4/4 from the field.
1/1 from 3-point land, and 2/2 from the foul line.
In her first appearance in the game, Geno took her out after a couple of minutes and said something to her on the bench. Does anyone know what that was about??

She was late covering on a G-Town 3. Came right out, Geno starting to tell her something, then the camera cut to a commercial or something. Whatever he said, she came back out and performed very well!

CD post game radio:
Really hard to believe we're at end of reg season. I tell the kids, up to Jan it feels long, after Jan it flies by. Told kids, we're guaranteed 3 games.

Our offense was better in 2nd quarter able to keep pressure on them with offense AND defense. Azzi terridfic shot with confidences. Sarah was sarah. Took a little to get going, last three quarters were good.

We have an unselfish team, they enjoy seeing each other score. We still have things to work on/fine tune. Never easy to play teams a third time (big east)

Nice to see celebration. Step #1

You want to celebrate. We had goals for the year: Win the out of conf schedule. Win the regular league. No matter what happens in the tourney, winning that over the course of the year, night in and night out is hard. Glad to celebrate, and celebrate infront of Hartford crowd. Lot more confetti than last year <G> Our kids worked very hard. Nice they can experience this.

Tomorrow, recovery and film. One day for St. John, day off. Couple days off next week, do some recovery.

Do you really think a player decides to slump?

K9 is coming. KK needs to get her shooting & scoring together because, K9 is getting better on defense as well, and in my opinion, a better passer overall. I just wish that Allie would improve more on defense; she is somewhat tentative. Also why are we missing free throws. Free throws are like gold. Open lay ups are also.

We will definitely need more shooting from our guards during March Madness to take the pressure off Azzi & Sarah. I just know that teams will find ways to double/triple them to keep them from scoring. Somebody else will have to step up. No Paige this year.
