It was a let down game after the emotional win over ND. On to Seton Hall
In addition to the emotional high of trouncing ND, the incoming storm and weather-related changes might have contributed to the destabilization. They are elite athletes but they are human.

Team had an off night. I'll attribute the performance to a let down after a very physical and emotional game against ND.

Azzi, in her post game interview court side, alluded to the fact that the performance was not up to standard and there was work to be done.

This team understands what is expected.
Not worried about the below standard offensive performance for a mid-year game. Defense was as usual, great. A bit of a humerous moment came in the 3rd quarter when my wife came into the TV room and asked what the strange noise was. Its was the sound of UConn "clanking" shots. Hopefully not a sound we will hear much of in future games.

Thank you! I wanted to post the same feeling...
Did the Gtown player who shoved Sarah get ejected, benched? Not sure the announcers explained what happened. Shouldn't look like rugby.

It was determined to be a flagrant 1 technical foul, which resulted in UConn receiving 2 foul shots, which Sarah made, and possession of the ball. The Georgetown player was not ejected, which would have been the penalty if the refs had determined that the Georgetown player had committed a flagrant 2 technical foul.

I don’t recall if she was taken out of the game by the Georgetown HC.

.-.
UConn was 24-33 from inside the arc, 11-11 from the line, and every starter had at least two steals.

It seemed like an ugly game at times because Georgetown is physical and did not get called for many fouls, and we were missing from three especially early.

Georgetown had 2 points with three minutes to go in the first quarter.

UConn had 13 players available.

So lots to be positive about. Once the threes start falling again, look out.

And to keep things in perspective Oklahoma just hung 94 on the second ranked team in the country.

My thought is that the big east for the most part provides our team several styles of play creating learning opportunities for the future that’s a lot more fun than practicing against each other and the practice team of young guys.

Our kids have to learn how to keep focus while playing teams that they could crush. Starters are wanting to improve themselves as well as enable non starters to get time in the game.

I also think if we were scheduled to be playing a top 10 team every week we would be seeing an intensity of focus that would be scary.

I also think and we’ll see this intensity of focus blossom in the BE tournament and intensify during the Big Dance.

We struggle with maintaining focus and other team struggle with teams that will beat you in conference.

I just try to observe. . . The growth, while my wife is yelling at the players, coaches, referees, broadcasters, me for messing with the channel. 🫲🤣🫱

Just about every season, during or around the winter break, UConn has one or more less than pretty games and the BY starts pulling their hair out. The players are on campus with no classes or classmates. The weather is cold and basically all they do is practice and play games.

Once classes are back, the players get into a routine, their execution gets sharper and they inevitably start building for March. In March UConn WBB always becomes the best version of itself.

This isn’t Geno & CD’s first rodeo. They know exactly what to do and how to do it in order to build their team to compete for a championship.

Serah at the high post against a zone is not working. She doesn’t seem to be able to make decisions quickly. Was so much better when Blanca was in that spot.
Strong needs to be at the high post. You get the ball up there, there are three things to do: Pass (Strong is better), shoot (Sarah is better from 15-19), or drive (Sarah is better). Against a smaller team, Fudd would be better, too, but being able to see over the defenders really helps. I agree that it's likely to be Blanca's spot eventually, but she needs to learn more.

Sure didn't look too good against a zone for about a 5 minute stretch and wonder why k9 only played 13 minutes

Looking from the outside in. Your players seem bored right now. They are so much better than the competition that they are not even being challenged. But they have incredible basketball IQs and are up to any future challenges that will come down the road.
Typical for most teams midseason. Amazing more games aren't close (or closer).

Yes, in just the past week, witness the loss by:
#2 So Carolina (road game vs ranked team)

and these losses to unranked teams:
#7 Kentucky
#16 Ole Miss
#19 Texas Tech (twice)
And then #19 Iowa State

No more gimmes in wcbb. Everyone is tired in January, aches and pains start to nag, and players are shaking off the post-holiday blahs. But unranked teams have had games vs the ranked ones circled on their calendar like the Super Bowl and find that bit of extra incentive to play at 100%. And so, upsets happen, especially to teams that aren’t used to being everyone’s target, every single game

And by the way, with only a little over a day to prepare for Seton Hall tomorrow, I wouldn’t expect a thing of beauty by the Huskies on Saturday. UConn probably got into their hotel in NJ after midnight this morning. Today they’ll watch some film, go over the Scout from the previous Seton Hall game this season and get a quick practice in. At the same time, Seton Hall has had almost 4 days to prepare for UConn.

I was at the game last night.

UConn games have been held at that arena ever since we re-entered the BE. They will continue to be held there. There's no way GU would forfeit the revenue from a bigger arena where they can charge more.

Other than the GU band and cheer team, the rest of the arena were all UConn fans.

I met Azzi's mom on the arena concourse when I got in. She was graciously taking pix with anyone who asked. I didn't want to bother her with that, but did tell her I remember when she played for GU. Her reply, "Not many people do."

Good start and fantastic 2nd Q. For awhile it looked like we may not score in the 3rd. They almost looked bored.

Great game from Ash. She was relentless on defense. Sarah did Sarah things (except for more fouls and TOs).

Azzi was clearly frustrated by her 3pt shooting. At halftime warmups, she was taking 3 after 3. She missed her 1st in the 3rd Q, but then hit a few. But she found other ways to impact the game anyway.

Anyone able to shed light on why Kayleigh played so little and not at all in 4th 1/4? I thought she played with her usual intensity and looked good when she was in.

I think Geno was trying to get is #1 team more time against a good zone.

Not for nothing, the second semester began on the 20th, and sometimes the shift back to the different schedules causes some weirdness.

.-.
There were a lot of very strange/careless passes in this game by Uconn starters.
Looking at this game it is evident how really difficult it is for all of the Huskies to stay mentally sharp to produce crisp, precise passes when playing less competitive and talented teams. Competition of similar capability heightens court awareness that drives more consistent and polished performance. Playing against inferior competition or "playing down" that UConn is experiencing in the Big East (aka Big Easy😕) can unfortunately, like in this game, result in lapses of concentration and even lazy play.
But let me be clear, while I say this, lazy play is not something that can be said at all about this team. Any lapses of intensity are short-lived for sure and is a credit to the Standard and standard of play and intensity expected that has been established by Geno, CD and the entire coaching staff to focus on every players effort, attitude and performance in every contest instead of the opponents inferior skill level.

“Usually when you score nine points, the shots aren't falling. Then the shots were falling and you scored 30 (in the second quarter),” he explained. “So, as I’ve said all season long, I'll start worrying when we can't get open shots. But when we get a bunch of open shots and we don't make them, I can't complain. I mean, I do, but I can't really complain.”

While it has been said a few times by others, Ash has really stepped up her intensity the last few games. She is hustling on defense and it shows. Great to see that leap from her.

I know some may not be happy with Serah's offensive stats, but she is a solid contributor and her defense should not be underrated. The ability for her to be able to switch on to the perimeter and defend guards is so good. I'm always so impressed by that.

On the other hand, it's just possible that the review of video from the 2nd half of last night's game might serve as motivation for a tremendous effort.

In the postgame presser, Geno mentioned getting Azzi and Sarah up to 30 minutes a game to prepare for the postseason. There are just fewer minutes left to go around

My only real concern for this team is this propensity for the offense to go off the rails for several minutes in a row. I saw it last night in the 3rd quarter and then it happened in the second quarter against ND and the third quarter against Michigan. There are probably a couple other instances that I'm missing.

Against the top teams in a loser go home situation, that just can't happen ....

The positive I saw last night was that Azzi kept shooting until they started falling. Most shooters perform terribly in their homecoming games. Younger Azzi used to stop shooting. I'm not worried though because even KML and KLS would have those stretches. The good part is she now keeps shooting just like KML and KLS. That's the only way to get out of a shooting funk.

I could totally see the coaches using these two games as tournament prep with the Seton Hall game getting moved up a day.

Williams still has a tendency to over complicate perfect feeds to her in the post. Just catch the ball, go up and put it in the hoop. Saturday might be ugly, because players will be tired and Seton Hall is not competitively inspiring. No matter the rhetoric, it is hard to give 100% when the competition is just not there. And one sided games tend to get chippy and physical. UCONN doesn't need that. I do hope they get back to Storrs before that snow rolls in.
Williams was 3-3 from the field with only 1 TO. No complications there

I am referring to the turnover. Watch it again. Blatant and unnecessary.
