Georgetown Post Game Thread

Clingan has 3rd highest career BPM all time, Zach Edey 1 at around 14. Clingan was 15 his sophomore year and 11.5 his freshman year. He was easily the biggest difference maker on those two teams, even in those 13 minutes.

You take him off the 24 team and stick Samson Johnson in there, you are talking a completely different team.

None of that makes it that Hurley only won because of DC, that is the dumbest thing I’ve read since…3 minutes ago in this thread.

He doesn't, but his comments have a direct impact on the players and he's trying to motivate them. When fans complain about a 24-2 team they come across as whiny and spoiled.

I've seen a bunch of posters this week say they hate watching this team and/or have not enjoyed this season. I get the team has its flaws but if you can't enjoy a 24-2 team with the only 2 losses coming down to the final minute I am at a loss for words
Acting like fans on a fan forum have no right to complain about a team that is 24-2 in large part because their conference is terrible and have played the softest part of our schedule while we’ve played our worst is even more whiny.
You don’t have the think everything is gumdrops just because we’re 24-2. We’ve dropped on all predictive measurements. Not winning games the way we should will and has had an impact on our potential seeding, in a year where if we lose the East seed and have to play the south, we will likely have a true road game against Houston in the elite 8.

Fans pay money to go to games, they’re allowed frustration. The reality is 14-1 in conference doesn’t mean much when our conference is closer to the WCC then B10

This was his longest answer of the interview and you can tell he’s frustrated with the crowds. At BOTH venues.
So is the crowd better in Hartford? I'm in Arizona so im not attending games anymore

You answered my question on both venues. Its early in the morning. Im not awa
On Alex and the inbound play is it Alex’s passing or the others not getting open? Too many times we put receivers in the corners which Alex recognizes is dangerous. We also don’t pass it to either of our centers because they don’t shoot FTs and we can’t put Malachi in there for the same reason. So we pull the center and put in Ross
It's absolutely the guys not getting open and that falls on the coaching. I see them trying to get open but no sets are being run to get them open

We kinda just didn’t look good overall, not just 2 mins. I can’t really point out 1 thing we did very well.
We countered well with three pointers and made critical foul shots against a hot shooting 4th qtr team. We played composed and also won! In our conference, these games are the second time around. Coaches adjust.

The most miserable 24-2 fan base ever.

I get that you can’t discuss nuances of basketball, you simply look at W and L, but this is a message board with some knowledgeable people discussing the details of the game.

You’re a bit too dopey to discuss aspects of the game so you just attack anyone that isn’t jumping up and down.

There’s a bunch of very positive posters that are recognizing some issues. That’s not misery, it’s analysis.

Pipe down or log out, you’re telling on yourself.

I have no problem with Reed going straight up and fouling while guarding the rim. Reaching in, and hedging at the 3 point line is a killer.
Reibe is not that dominant yet but he’s already a good player for us but not strong enough yet.
The biggest disparity on offense is when Silas goes out for Smith. Nothing good happens. I really don’t know what to say about Ross and Stew who can look so good in some games and disappear in others.
My prediction is that we will be competitive with the best teams in the country no matter who we play and of course I’m happy with our results needless to say.

What did Calhoun say on the mic ? Something about the backup PG Smith ? Reibe ? I didn't hear that part. Only that he told Hurley. This was during the part when Hasheem was speaking.
He basically said UConn doesn't have a backup PG. He then threw in the backup is good, but it was half hearted , and you can tell he didnt want to completely throw him under the bus

Exactly. 24-2 is awesome and this team , especially Silas, has shown a lot of growth this year. But UConn wins championships, and there’s obviously some glaring holes and lack of growth from key players that will rear its head if we don’t figure it out

You must be fun at parties Mr French. Glad I can enjoy wins from my team.

And if they don’t, we’ll all be happy. But it won’t make the concerns this game, this week, less valid.

In fact, I just don’t get what a message board about UConn basketball should consist of if there were no concerns or negatives in this postgame thread. Every sports fan of every team discusses the negatives of a performance when they’re apparent. It doesn’t make them less of a fan.

I'd be happy the a Final 4.

Rather than complain about nitpicking, what would a happy health forum look like to you?

You sound like an idiot. I am fun at parties too! And I enjoyed the win. Just not going to pretend they played perfect. THATS WHAT A MESSAGE BOARD IS FOR

They have a right to complain, and I have a right to think it makes them look whiny. And I'm not saying any complaining is whiny, I'm specifically saying the people who say they do not enjoy watching a 24-2 team. I find that to be absurd.

If the season ended today we would be a 1 seed, just like we would have been at the start of the season. Has it been pretty? No. Does this team have flaws? Sure. But I would still take this team and this coaching staff to beat anyone in March based off of everything they've shown this year. And like you said, wins in March are all that matters.

In his defense, he isn’t wrong.

This is the most miserable 24-2 fanbase ive ever seen

23 & 24 ruined us. Analytics ruined us. We should be excited to see how we stack up in the tourney. Instead we have fans saying ridiculous things

“We haven’t looked good all year”

“We are closer to GTown than we are top 5 teams”

“I hate watching this team”

I can go on and on.

I’m picking up 2006 UConn vibes with this team. They play with their food a lot as did the 2006 version until it ultimately came back to bite them in the postseason. The difference is that the 2006 was thought to be a clear #1 team with the roster we had. They had a great regular season (in a much tougher Big East) but there was something missing and we all saw it and hoped things would straighten out by March but it got worse

You must be fun at parties Mr French. Glad I can enjoy wins from my team.

Criticizing everything anyone says is the opposite of being fun at a party, btw.

You just walk around whistling all day with no objective discussion about anything? I guess that’s more peaceful, it sounds weird though.

When are we allowed, by your fandom manual, to say anything negative? Does every comment about the game instantly make one a bad fan? I’m trying to figure it out. Cuz I’m generally super positive about all my sports teams but I also get frustrated when they play poorly. I just want to be the perfect fan for RashadRay11, that’s my main focus this spring.

Or he's hit a wall with some of them. Felt like Hurley's patience finally wore thin. Something feels off with this group. Stew with 4 minutes, the Reibe remarks in the last presser. Stew has averaged 8 minutes a game in his last 3 here on the back half of his junior year.

Can't not see your point about not being able to appreciate 24-2, but as a spoiled fanbase everyone is prognosticating our chances in March.
I get that, but that's what's confusing. Even the biggest critics like you say that we can't beat Arizona/Michigan/Florida/Duke. Even if that's true those games aren't happening until the Elite 8 or the Final 4, that's still a great season that fans should be able to enjoy. That's my point with the spoiled fans comment, not being able to enjoy this season is very weird to me

Clearly many more agree with me than you. Not reading your long ass messages anymore

You’re responding from your personal objective criticisms. Can you see that isn’t true for everyone else? A lot of fans are absolutely not being reasonable

Stunting Reibe’s development to watch Reed not hustle and make the same mistakes over and over.
Reibe needs to learn to use his height to defend bully ball inside (like Ejiofor & Hopkins and Peat and Lendeborg), without fouling. He does that and he's gold.

That goes for Reed too, who seems always to make himself smaller inside than bigger.

One thing I am growing increasingly frustrated with is the tendency for referees to allow holding of offensive players during the inbound pass, especially towards the end of games.

Now we screwed it up don’t get me wrong but on one of the plays, you could see that Mullins had someone’s arms fully around his stomach like a wrestling move.

That is a foul plain and simple. There’s a good defense, forcing turnovers and then there’s literally just holding the entire time.

So yes, we have a lot of work to do on. Inbound passes Karanban looks like a deer in the headlights sometimes - yeah he’s a good free-throw shooter. Maybe we should find someone else inbound the ball to mix it up a little bit. Karaban shouldn’t be forced to do it every time IMO.
If it's the same play I'm thinking of, on Alex's turnover with ~14 seconds left, a Georgetown player wrapped up Mullins and pulled him out of bounds.

The refs need to stop allowing the garbage that most members of this conference get away with.

Those people being called out, if they’re being unreasonable, is fine. The fans that are saying they’re happy we won but there’s a couple frustrating issues should not be deemed bad fans. And that’s happening. There is definitely a distinction between the few obnoxious doom and gloomers and the people discussing a below average player basketball game.

I didn’t say close to any of those things. Call out those people, not the people discussing basketball and daring to say we ain’t perfect. There’s a distinction that isn’t difficult to see. I thought you could see that, I know other dude can’t.

Right. But you responded to him saying this is the most miserable 24-2 fanbase base ever. Is he wrong?

If you want to use a couple people as the indicator for everyone, sure. I kinda don’t make those generalizations.

I’d say 90% are reasonable and discussing positives and negatives.

Right. But you responded to him saying this is the most miserable 24-2 fanbase base ever. Is he wrong?

Also, I responded to him cuz he threw a hissy fit 2 games straight with ANYONE that said ANYTHING negative even when they weren’t being that negative. So, yeah, I have an issue with his stance and his lording over everyone’s opinions.
