Georgetown Post Game Thread

Mul came Ready to light it up, coming out of a 4 game stretch where he was 7-9 from deep. Going 4-7 from beyond the arc last night gives Georgetown a new shiny weapon if he can shoot it at that clip at that volume.
I hear you, but I mean he averages less than 4 a game and shooting less than 30% from 3 prior to last night. He made some tough shots, but shot way above his average. I have been listening to a ton of complaints on this board all day. I agree that this team is lacking something, but I think lately the issue has been more defense than offense. The last few games, teams are shooting over 40% from the field and Georgetown made more 3s than normal (several of them tough 3s). Offensively, this team has actually played well shooting in the high 40s to 50% the last few games. Honestly, the issue has been defense and the inability to make like one to two key stops in a row to blow a game wide open. I hope they can turn the defense back on coming down the stretch. Certainly inbounding against pressure is another concern. It hadn't really been raising it's head lately until the St. John's game and then last night. Interestingly, Hurley seemed not as concerned last night in his post game comments (he talked about UConn having 20 assists and only 10 TOs, but saying he wishes the TOs were 7, and that losing Reed causing them to lose their main screener for inbounds plays, and calling out the guards for not getting open). Not saying it's not a concern, I think it is, but he doesn't seem as worried as I thought he would be. Not sure how much I want to put into the bucket of Georgetown had a week off before the game and seemed the fresher team coming down the stretch, but that is something to keep in mind. In the end, I still am bullish on this team and think they will be right there for making the Final 4 barring injury. There are concerns yes, but we forget that they were one down to St. Johns on the road with 5 minutes to go, haven't gotten the most favorable of whistles most of the season, and have overcome injuries including Karaban being hampered last night. They are a high character group who has a knack for not panicking and being able to win close games. I think the key in the tournament will be shooting, they have to knock down 40% or so from 3 in their tournament games to be really effective. Interestingly, UConn has the bye before Marquette, and that nearly 2 weeks off (with the only the Marquette game being played in between) may give them the end of the year jolt they need to feel refreshed for a big run. Hurley has been a really good tournament coach the last 3 years, and I trust him implicitly. I am going to enjoy the rest of the season, am fairly confident they will play well against Villanova and St. Johns (will see if they can win those games), and I look forward to the tournament. Like anything, they will need the right draw and need to catch fire a bit at the right time. They certainly have the firepower to do so.

He can't. He sucks. Dude has score double digits maybe once this season and we tried to get him a spot on the All-Big East team last night.

Remember the old ABC Wide World of Sports opening montage? "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat"(Ski jumper basically dies going off the ramp). On the Boneyard this year it is "The thrill of Victory and the agony of...Victory"
Mike Schmidt, hall of fame 3rd baseman, has an outstanding quote very similar to this. "Philly is the only city where you can experience the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day."

Yes you can - see 2014 UConn in terms of turning it up a notch in the postseason. And remember, that team got embarrassed by Louisville in the last regular season game losing by more than 30 pts
That was NOT a weak conference. It got more bids than 2023 and what 2026 will be from the NBE. And it’s underrated because it was new. 2 teams made the Sweet16. And UConn obviously won the whole thing. But for most of the year there were 5 Top 25 teams., Louisville, Cincinnati, UConn, Memphis and SMU..SMU and Memphis were dumped in the last poll. Ended the year with 3. SMU got screwed because the league was new but went to the Nit Finals.

And you forgot to add that Duke is winning the National Championship.
I don’t think a 5 seed but if we lose to Villanova and the Johnnies then again in the New Big east Tournament semis a 3 or even a 4 is not out of the question.

.-.
This team is starting to give me 1995-96 Huskies vibes. That team had only two losses in the regular season, then lost to Mississippi State in the Sweet 16. That team won most of its Big East games handily. But… when either Ray or Sheffer (who, together accounted for just under half of the team’s scoring for the season) struggled, the team struggled. Current team has more balanced scoring. But both teams are/were not deep, and that lack of depth cost a two-loss team in the postseason. They beat a 16-seed Colgate team by single digits and then didn’t overpower Eastern Michigan in a round-of-32 win.

I think Hurley is really concerned about the reserves right now - particularly Stewart and Ross - and I fear that some of the starters will feel burned out by the completion of the BET.
Needs to get Ross into that dunker spot.
