Georgetown Post Game Thread

I thought Ross was the key to this game. Husky Warrior you are a Svengali
It’s not my fault Hurley didn’t keep his word on playing Ross more to see what he has.

It’s kind of wild to go out your way to say that and play him for 2 minutes. Like man wouldn’t you want to at least reward a guy for working hard for culture purposes?

That sucks for Ross.

lol…,.you will never admit how horrifically wrong you are

People really thought we played well? I guess we did the last 9 minutes of the game but I thought we were really bad up until then. Georgetown didn't have Sorber or their 6th man for the game and Fielder fouled out pretty early in the second half. We were a sieve on defense, AK was a ghost again until garbage time. Tarris was really good and Solo was good but that wasn't a good effort from the rest of them through 31 minutes at home against a Georgetown team with basically 5 players.
I thought offensively they played well, but I agree they struggled defensively. Constant dribble penetration and guys getting to the rim way to easily. It's baby steps as far as I am concerned on offense. They needed a game where they played 2 consistent scoring halves. Pleased that they attacked the rim more, especially Solo and fed Reed. Better FT shooting as well. The rebounding since McNeeley's return has also been very good, but they still lack a defensive stopper. Stewart got beat off the dribble several times, Karaban looked very slow and seemed in a daze at times, and Ross is just lost. Nowell got beat off the dribble as well, but I liked his competitiveness considering he is a freshman playing against an experienced player like Epps. In the end, they won a game fairly easily getting balanced scoring from their starters. Let's hope they can keep it going offensively.

Damn, I wonder what poster already said this on the board. Lol (except I’m thinking moreso 20+)

Pretty much everyone. I've said repeatedly he's one of the best shooters we've ever had, he's an 18 ppg scorer, will be one of the best guards in the country, and will play in the NBA. You've said for a couple of years he's a point guard.

Mahaney has a better handle
The only thing Nowell has on Mahaney is strength. Mahaney has a better handle, better shot, and attacks the rim better. Unfortunately, both are massive defensive liabilities.

Actions speak louder than words. Danny can say what he wants. Look at the past couple box scores. He trusts 6.5 players.(Stewie is the .5)

Nowell is a freshman and still learning defensively. He is quicker than Mahaney, much stronger, and frankly more competitive. Mahaney is way to small to play in a physical league like the Big East. Frankly, I expected more from a junior who is in his 3rd year of college basketball. Nowell is far from perfect, but he has the physicality to play in the league. He is going to make freshman mistakes but no way am I playing Mahaney over him the rest of the year. If Mahaney played tonight, Georgetown would have attacked him every single time down the floor. He just doesn't have the size and strength to play in this league.

Look like garbage for 10 minutes and slowly got better throughout. Good solid win.

Hurley said tonight that he is changing his approach to his own offense. He thinks the players had become too robotic following the system. He wants more step back back and side steps from the arc. He also wants them to be freer and attack their man and bring him to the rim more. We saw that against Villianova and again tonight. This also my be a way to inject a little more personality into their play which he wants.

Choosing to ignore the first 10 minutes because I want to enjoy this one. Let’s go Huskies!
I was busy witnessing a 3-year old enjoying Pad Thai and then having to navigate the emotionally turbulent shock of there being no cake at Nana's birthday dinner, so I watched from 16-20. It worked for me.

How on earth could you watch that game and ask to play Nowell more. He was abused on defense, blown by and shot over. He showed almost no offensive ability, had a couple of decent assists and was weak with the basketball.

It almost insane to think that we will get anything more from him with more minutes.
It's the back up quarterback syndrome. The guy the fans don't see much is always better than the one getting the playing time.

He picked up his dribble on two straight possessions and one led to a turnover. That was the end of his night.
According to some, he deserves more time. This is based on…….nothing

Grateful for the win, but let’s pump the brakes.

We beat a team that had no center and put no defensive pressure on us. And they still got some turnovers for run outs.

Without their stud 4 man

Did you not see what happened when Nowell was in the game? They attacked him every time. So what’s your point?
Nowell is clearly stronger, Mahaney is still more of an offensive threat, both stagnate the offense at the point. I am no longer advocating for Aiden but Nowell is not the answer. He had two decent assists(both in broken sets) vs probably the least discipline team we will play all year and did nothing else. He was awful defensively.

Every time we think the ship is steady it starts taking on water!

Reed has been my favorite player to watch this year. Great win.

Hey fellow UConn fan -

Your team won its game tonight. Which of these guys do you wanna feel like?

I have seen Mahaney all year. He is awful. He is also a junior who is getting abused both offensively and defensively. Frankly, he is not nearly the ball handler you think he is. He's struggled against pressure all year and cannot handle the physicality of the Big East. Nowell is a freshman. It's apples to oranges. What can I say to you...Mahaney is not good. He cannot be the backup point guard the rest of the year. If you can't see that, I don't know what to say.

Wow…what a game by Reed.

There have been several guys since Hurley took over that his personal affinity for, clearly clouds his judgment of their play (Letting Alterique Gilbert fail time after time after time with the game on the line comes to mind) and Sampson fits that category. We should have been using Reed at this volume since November.

This is based on Hurley saying to Borges that he believes Ross deserves more time, and that he has not played him enough. Hurleys word is good enough for me

Thing is Nowell is a Freshmen who has barely played while Mahaney is already who he is at a Jr. There is more upside with Nowell geting more minutes and he did have one nice drive at the end of the half were he couldn't finish at the basket. He just needs more time and I think Hurley sees no harm of backing Diarra for 5-8 minutes in the first half games.
