Need to adjust the high hedge and examine what is gained by it. We get burned a lot with our centers being out of position on defense. When Reed plays a standard center position and doesn't float out were much more tough inside.
I really don’t get it. We are also very slow to rotate and almost always leads to either an open lane, a cheap foul, or worse an and one. I really would love to hear Danny justify it. It seems so obvious.

Great foul shooting by our team tonight. Perhaps the best of the season. Would love to see less dribbling by many players and better passing inside. Reed is a tough out for opposing teams. We don't utilize him enough. He lives on putbacks and isn't a solid part of the offense.

When teams we face don’t apply a high energy, face-guarding approach, frankly we look pretty tough to beat.

I do get concerned about our ability to handle pressure defense. We will see tons of it in BE tourney and NCAA Tourney.

I still think we looked unsteady handling ball and would like to have seen more Nowell to speed things up - give us some stability with ball handling.

Diarra just looks like he’s run out of gas - playing as hard as he can w/ nagging injuries - and yes, still getting to the rim but looks pained getting there. Away from rim he seems to have lost that outside jumper and 3 ball, and no longer seems like a threat from the outside.

I hope coach comes up with a strategy to mix it up when we see the St. John’s type of defense again - it’s coming.

No complaints on tonight though, our team played well and it was a good win.

People really thought we played well? I guess we did the last 9 minutes of the game but I thought we were really bad up until then. Georgetown didn't have Sorber or their 6th man for the game and Fielder fouled out pretty early in the second half. We were a sieve on defense, AK was a ghost again until garbage time. Tarris was really good and Solo was good but that wasn't a good effort from the rest of them through 31 minutes at home against a Georgetown team with basically 5 players.
No we did not play well. We played a less talented, injury decimated team. Our defense was horrific, but then again that is nothing new. No takeaways from this game other than we didn’t pull a Seton Hall

How on earth could you watch that game and ask to play Nowell more. He was abused on defense, blown by and shot over. He showed almost no offensive ability, had a couple of decent assists and was weak with the basketball.

It almost insane to think that we will get anything more from him with more minutes.
It was a mixed bag. His two assists were certainly ok - led to layups. Both were really massive defensive breakdowns more than anything special. But he had to read AK’s slip pretty quickly to deliver it on time and the 2-on-1 in the paint was a good fundamental bounce pass, but point guard 101 stuff. The seas parted wide open for the driving lane and no help was around so it wasn’t like he had to thread a needle.

My concern was his first step trying to beat his man off the dribble wasn’t there. Maybe his ankle has hindered his mobility a bit - but I didn’t see any quick bursts from him that would lead me to believe he can break down defenses. So defenders know they get up in his grill and make everything hard for him, because he probably won’t be able to make them pay for it. He basically gets the Mahaney treatment where you try to survive possessions with him initiating things … you never feel like he’s the one in control.

I thought Ross was the key to this game. Husky Warrior you are a Svengali
It’s not my fault Hurley didn’t keep his word on playing Ross more to see what he has.

It’s kind of wild to go out your way to say that and play him for 2 minutes. Like man wouldn’t you want to at least reward a guy for working hard for culture purposes?

That sucks for Ross.

I thought offensively they played well, but I agree they struggled defensively. Constant dribble penetration and guys getting to the rim way to easily. It's baby steps as far as I am concerned on offense. They needed a game where they played 2 consistent scoring halves. Pleased that they attacked the rim more, especially Solo and fed Reed. Better FT shooting as well. The rebounding since McNeeley's return has also been very good, but they still lack a defensive stopper. Stewart got beat off the dribble several times, Karaban looked very slow and seemed in a daze at times, and Ross is just lost. Nowell got beat off the dribble as well, but I liked his competitiveness considering he is a freshman playing against an experienced player like Epps. In the end, they won a game fairly easily getting balanced scoring from their starters. Let's hope they can keep it going offensively.

Damn, I wonder what poster already said this on the board. Lol (except I’m thinking moreso 20+)

Seriously, has Dan Hurley lost his mind??? He’s averaging 15 a game this year, a “jump” to 16 or 17 next year is “huge”???

Pretty much everyone. I've said repeatedly he's one of the best shooters we've ever had, he's an 18 ppg scorer, will be one of the best guards in the country, and will play in the NBA. You've said for a couple of years he's a point guard.

Mahaney has a better handle
The only thing Nowell has on Mahaney is strength. Mahaney has a better handle, better shot, and attacks the rim better. Unfortunately, both are massive defensive liabilities.

Actions speak louder than words. Danny can say what he wants. Look at the past couple box scores. He trusts 6.5 players.(Stewie is the .5)

Nowell is a freshman and still learning defensively. He is quicker than Mahaney, much stronger, and frankly more competitive. Mahaney is way to small to play in a physical league like the Big East. Frankly, I expected more from a junior who is in his 3rd year of college basketball. Nowell is far from perfect, but he has the physicality to play in the league. He is going to make freshman mistakes but no way am I playing Mahaney over him the rest of the year. If Mahaney played tonight, Georgetown would have attacked him every single time down the floor. He just doesn't have the size and strength to play in this league.
