Georgetown Post Game Thread

We being being down by about 10 and coming back is monumental this season. If we can take down Marquette and do ok in the BET we should be able to improve our seeding in the Big Dancel….Providence has istorivally been a hemroid.

.-.
START TARRIS REED.
GIVE HIM THE BALL.

Great shooting from Solo and Liam. Karaban was 1-5 from three but his 1 was the dagger. The only ones that matter are the last one and the next one

Choosing to ignore the first 10 minutes because I want to enjoy this one. Let’s go Huskies!

Feed Reed! Obviously without Sorber Georgetown had nobody to check him inside.

Is Diarra's knee better? Best he's looked in a long time.

Beat them on the boards 35-18. Is that a + high for the season?

The defense though....Unfortunately I don't think that's getting fixed this year. Better be for next year though. Can't have another year of defense this bad.

I hope if you bet on UConn you got in at 13.5 before it went to -14.5. I kept saying the last few minutes that UConn was going to win by 14 just because you know it always happens that way. I laughed when Georgetown scored on that break away with 20 seconds left.

People really thought we played well? I guess we did the last 9 minutes of the game but I thought we were really bad up until then. Georgetown didn't have Sorber or their 6th man for the game and Fielder fouled out pretty early in the second half. We were a sieve on defense, AK was a ghost again until garbage time. Tarris was really good and Solo was good but that wasn't a good effort from the rest of them through 31 minutes at home against a Georgetown team with basically 5 players.

Get Tarris up to speed on defense in the off season and we have something.

Well enough to cover the spread. Can't remember the last time they did recently.

Play Reed a lot. Play Nowell more. Try Mahaney as a Joey C type SG to spell Ball. We need depth and ball handling.

How on earth could you watch that game and ask to play Nowell more. He was abused on defense, blown by and shot over. He showed almost no offensive ability, had a couple of decent assists and was weak with the basketball.

It almost insane to think that we will get anything more from him with more minutes.

We covered, but still managed to hurt our KP Drtg - dropped from 99 to 110. Ortg only went from 15 to 14.

I thought Hurley was smart to play starters and cover as those little things count on Selection Sunday, but letting G'town score more than 70 in our place was not good for the resume.

Great win. We scored some points. Which has to be good for their confidence. 20 and 10 from Reed is big for us. Needs to play. And we need to dump the ball into him. AK is at his best when he isn't the focus.

Got to get better on D. Defending dribble penetration. Finding the open player when we hedge at the top. And got to secure the ball better with our own dribble.
Offense looked great, defense looked terrible. Fortunately we scored almost every time down the floor in second half.

Man to man defense with the big man doing the high hedge just not working for this team. You can’t play man to man defense when 4 guys on the floor can’t guard the man they are defending one on one. Every game they roll out the same defense, no scheme changes and it doesn’t work. I understand it worked great the past 2 years but not with this personnel.
Don’t understand why Hurley doesn’t try something else … 2 shot blockers in game at same time or trapping press, or 2-3 zone.. anything… it can’t be worse.

Need to adjust the high hedge and examine what is gained by it. We get burned a lot with our centers being out of position on defense. When Reed plays a standard center position and doesn't float out were much more tough inside.
I really don’t get it. We are also very slow to rotate and almost always leads to either an open lane, a cheap foul, or worse an and one. I really would love to hear Danny justify it. It seems so obvious.

Great foul shooting by our team tonight. Perhaps the best of the season. Would love to see less dribbling by many players and better passing inside. Reed is a tough out for opposing teams. We don't utilize him enough. He lives on putbacks and isn't a solid part of the offense.

When teams we face don’t apply a high energy, face-guarding approach, frankly we look pretty tough to beat.

I do get concerned about our ability to handle pressure defense. We will see tons of it in BE tourney and NCAA Tourney.

I still think we looked unsteady handling ball and would like to have seen more Nowell to speed things up - give us some stability with ball handling.

Diarra just looks like he’s run out of gas - playing as hard as he can w/ nagging injuries - and yes, still getting to the rim but looks pained getting there. Away from rim he seems to have lost that outside jumper and 3 ball, and no longer seems like a threat from the outside.

I hope coach comes up with a strategy to mix it up when we see the St. John’s type of defense again - it’s coming.

No complaints on tonight though, our team played well and it was a good win.

No we did not play well. We played a less talented, injury decimated team. Our defense was horrific, but then again that is nothing new. No takeaways from this game other than we didn’t pull a Seton Hall

It was a mixed bag. His two assists were certainly ok - led to layups. Both were really massive defensive breakdowns more than anything special. But he had to read AK’s slip pretty quickly to deliver it on time and the 2-on-1 in the paint was a good fundamental bounce pass, but point guard 101 stuff. The seas parted wide open for the driving lane and no help was around so it wasn’t like he had to thread a needle.

My concern was his first step trying to beat his man off the dribble wasn’t there. Maybe his ankle has hindered his mobility a bit - but I didn’t see any quick bursts from him that would lead me to believe he can break down defenses. So defenders know they get up in his grill and make everything hard for him, because he probably won’t be able to make them pay for it. He basically gets the Mahaney treatment where you try to survive possessions with him initiating things … you never feel like he’s the one in control.
