The 2nd unit with Smith and or Ross/Stewart and Eric just doesn't have enough fire power if the only starter on court is Alex. Alex gives up the ball as soon as he gets it and Smith ends up with the ball late in clock. Need at least one and more like 2 of Ball, Mullins and Demary on court most times to get some shot hunting, everyone else is too passive.
I want Ball and Mullins hunting shots, best way I see that happening is Stewart start and Mullins comes in at 5 minutes with Smith and is featured.
Reed needs to take a little out of the late 2023 Sonogo and pass out of double teams to open 3's.

The AP is one of the most predictable things on the planet. The voters barely think, they just move stuff around based on who won and who lost.

They're winning, but there are flaws. One issue is that it's been very rare we get the whole group playing well in the same game. Today we had Silas and some Tarris for a bit, and that's where it ended. Other days it's a different 1 or 2 players. One of these days, we'll get all 5 guys clicking, hopefully.

AK is in a slump, but also, some of the passes to him are just a second late. The timing just seems off. Demary is a great passer, but it seems like other guys don't expect Karaban to clear and that can mess with a shooter's shot.

1) Maybe the take that Dan alluded to about the Big East not being that good was not a great move…. I remember Dan said something like how much they win by is important etc. Classic poster board stuff We are on everyone’s radar as the team to beat. Every team looks hyper motivated to beat us!

I wasn’t worried about it at all. I don’t recall the press forcing a single turnover. This year’s team handles the ball so much better than last year’s team. I am quite concerned about their three point shooting and their rebounding.

That’s 100% how SH turned an 18 point deficit into 1 within about 12 minutes. How could you say that isn’t a concern??

We're 18-1 and likely to move to #2 in the AP Poll, but my concern is if we have this type of shooting night in the NCAA tournament, we're not going to be cutting down the nets.

It is only mid January. UConn often struggles in January even in the championship years. Yes they need to improve in many categories but they have plenty of time to do it. If they are still playing like this at the end of February then its time be concerned. For now we should be enjoying the wins. It is good for them to play in close games with game pressure on. If the team has weaknesses its good for them to be exposed now while there is plenty of time to make adjustments.

It’s been a losing formula because teams either took too long to get into it or didn’t have the talent to pull it off. This was Seton Hall and Georgetown, not Michigan and Duke.

They only had 17 TOs in that game. Not great but better than last year. It was the inability to make an outside shot that allowed Seton Hall back in that game. If they make 2 more 3s and shoot 5-17 rather than 3-17, that game never gets close. Unlike last year they didn’t turn it over once the lead was cut to 1 and they finished strong.
The press is Seton Hall’s specialty. Uconn hadn’t won in that building for
Karaban’s entire career. Seton Hall came in ranked #25 and they had a good crowd. That was a solid win for UConn.

This team was built to beat teams by making 3s and they are struggling to shoot, but still finding ways to win.

FWIW, you're not going to see Michigan or Duke, or any top program that rarely presses full court, play rock fight hoops like that.

If teams try to play a full court frenetic style from the jump, they'd fail to sustain that, run out of gas and run out of players. The era where a program tries to win by playing 40 minutes of hell hoops is decades in the past.

Now St. John's will, since Ricky P recruits as many strong athletes as possible so that he can keep running them out on the floor not worrying too much if a few foul out. He counts on the refs won't constantly call fouls. Programs that play like that do so because they don't have the skilled players to win without making the game into a cluster f*<<k.

As we all have witnessed, that doesn't work in the NCAA Tournament.

UConn has shown that it has the talent to win against that type of play. In fact if they can get out of this shooting funk, they'll destroy teams that try to play us this way.

Stamina is really overrated when it comes to these things. These are 18-23 year olds playing basketball twice a week. They can run around for 40 minutes just fine.

It's not the NBA where you can be a 30 year old playing a back to back 48 minute game.

Last 5 games, his shooting from 2 pt range is 40%. Before that he was shooting 56% inside the arc. He has missed some shots that he normally misses around the rim. I think the prior 14 games are the norm so I would call the last 5 games a slump.

3 1/2 takes.
1. I hate noon games in general and especially on the road. So often leads to wearing boots instead of sneakers. Also led to the many rim-outs.
2. Gotta rest Ross. Elite quickness is not back. That hammy is not healed (and, his left hand is still an issue.)
