Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

That is the concerning thing. The premise behind this roster construction is that the shooting would be top tier and it certainly is not that, at all. Open looks need to be open makes. This team misses too many open looks. Missing FTs to ice the game, 0-4 from you elder leaders in Ball and Karaban really doesn't cut it.

I said this about Karaban last year and I will say this about Solo now. Solo needs a sports psychologist. I am not saying this to be funny, snarky, or insulting. Solo is really in his own head.

Most big programs have sports psychologists, I know a lot do for a fact and even IMG does, so they more than likely have some in their athletic department.

It’s not an insult to say, I think we all agree he needs it. His shot is busted and it’s not due to form.

I have my qualms but too often you default to this rhetoric. My criticisms are about poor rotations (throwing off rhythm) and inbounding (which is bad at this point).

Criticize them sure, but earn their chops? What does that even mean?
It means that teams can look at tape from this game and the Seton Hall game and it’s obvious how to play us: tough, grind it out and press us. Coaches need to be prepared for it.

What did you think it meant??

I would like to see Silas start looking for his own shot more and dial Solo's back. These Solo shots aren't even close and we're starting to reach the point where you just can't let him shoot his way out of this, the bricks are starting to affect his overall game in a way they weren't earlier in the season.
I think that would be good, but it seems like Silas has found the correct balance between playmaking and going to score to get his. The other perimeter players need to step up more consistently. Solo doesn't need to be benched, but I think some of his minutes need to go to Stewart and Ross, how much I don't know. This might actually take pressure of Solo, which is sorely needed, and also allow him to play faster. He is clearly pressing. He has the mindset that turning down shots is bad, but he has over corrected this by forcing bad off balance shots. Solo is in his own head way too much and it shows with his inconsistent defense and him missing open looks.

I'm not worried either, but how many more games can you wait until the team looks like they're starting to figure it out. They're beating subpar competition right now based on having more talent, by the skin of their teeth. Seton Hall got curb stomped at home against Butler today. These are not good teams we are playing, even if league foes.
I don't think we need to wait at all, we've already seen it against every top OOC team we played this season

Just not a well played game by Uconn. One thing for sure long term, if Demary gets hurt or in foul trouble they could be in deep trouble.
Kariban and Ball need to shot the ball better. 2 for 8 at the end of the game is awful. This is in the time in the past when Danny's team hit a lull and then get going again. Will see if the week off helps.

I hope we aren't anywhere close to last year.

A W is a W. Another game that makes you wonder where this teams potential really is. I know many of us are holding out that they haven't "gelled" yet, but you'd expect incremental steps in that direction. I saw nothing today offensively that showed any progression that way, as we are running out of chances little by little.

No extra skip passes for looks, very few setups for open looks off actions. More one on one that we've seen in past UConn teams.

Our bench has shown nothing lately. What was once our strength is no non existent.

Nothing comes easy with our offense, except maybe dumping the ball down to Reed. I don't know if it's guys not making the right cuts or not getting the ball in the right spots. We're also a streaky shooting team and Ball's slump doesn't help. I hate to say it but our poor FT shooting in pressure situations will kill us one of these days.

W: Mullins/Ball/Alex look to shoot. Maybe they should look to drive to the hoop more. They’ve become one dimensional and teams defend them as such. When they did go midrange or to the tin, good things happen.

Don’t get it twisted; I agree and said earlier the team isn’t well right now. I’m just trying to keep some nuance.

We know this team can beat good competition, we’re 18-1. But we need a good Nova beatdown next weekend to restore confidence in both us and the team.

1) Yes a win is a win, but also with Nova and St. Johns playing each other get one 1.5 games out, and another 2.5 games out.
2) Solo did everything good except 3pt shooting and on-ball defense and FTs down the stretch. Um, what else is there??
3) Reed had 8 offensive rebounds out of 11 - was 2nd best Husky today
4) Silas was #1 husky today just a rock.
5) 2b was Braylon who hit some heady 3s, scrambled well for the ball and his D wasn't so back - actually caused some TOs so for giveaways was 1 AST - 2 TO +2 STL = +1

We’ll take the dub —hopefully we”ll never see solo and AK go 0-4 combined down the stretch on free throws. We got a week off to recharge and clean a few things up. maybe Arizona will get upset and we could be number one come monday. Now time enjoy one of the last good football weekends remaining right through Monday nights college championship - till next week fellas!!!

18-1 if were an nfl team then we just won a Super Bowl off a 15-1 season. Lots to work on Hurley has addressed which is it but it's been all talk but he now it needs to get it fixed. An ugly week in back to back ugly games on the road but wins. We correct the basics we'll be great.

Any road win is a good win!!!!
If one wants to characterize outcomes into wins, losses, good wins, good losses, bad wins and bad losses, this was NOT a good win. It was a win. It may or may not be a bad win but it is definitely no more than a win.

Its a mystery to me how Big East teams look like Final Four teams against us, yet come March always exit before the Sweet 16.
I don't think it applies to this game. I have watched Georgetown a lot this year. They played a tick or two above their usual level, but not thaaat much above their level. UConn stunk in this game and despite of it managed to still win.

On the plus side:
1. We won
2. Only 5 Turnovers with 8 steals and 6 blocks
3. No physical injuries (just psychological damage)

On the minus side:
1. Our offense has disappeared
2. Many Missed foul shots at crunch time by our best players
3. Our 3 point shooting seems to exist only in history books
4. Our inbounding against pressure is a ghastly weakness
5. Mullins may need smaller shoes to help stay in bounds. Only Selvie & Purvis were out so frequently - How does this even happen?

With 1 second left Alex inbounded the ball immediately to an open player before the defense could get set. An open player is available like that most of the time in the first instant we get the ball. Instead we have 2 players with their backs turned to the ball, begin to break when Alex has less than 3 sec and ultimately the ball ends up double teamed and trapped in the corner needing a prayer pass back under the basket or to the foul line. More often than not, our whole offense doesn't start until there is 17/18 sec left. If a guy is free the instant Alex touches the ball, get it in!!!
