I think the scheduling is still stuck in the mindset of a time when very few games were available on broadcast or streaming. Now almost every single game is available on some platform or another. It makes no sense to have all the teams in a power conference in action during only two time slots on one day. This is exactly why the men's games are spread around much better. That nails it. On a wider scale, most of the lesser conferences play on Saturday as well, and some out west on Wednesdays. Monday and Tuesday are the "dog days" - Monday of course gets a few "Big Monday" games, but they are the slow days.
