Overall a satisfying win. One concern: Bama blocked 10 of our shots!

We still dominated paint scoring but it shows me that we need to look more at kicking it out to the 3 point shooters when we have it down low. Cut down on forcing the shot when the lane is crowded.

Great game by Raven. Makeer was solid in her first start.
I saw the blocked shots as a growth opportunity for Okot. She was well scouted and will need to develop some counters over the next few months.

Bama is a much better team than I expected. I think they look like a tournament team around the 7-10 seed area. Their makeup reminds me of the early Dawn Staley days before she won her first championship -- like around the Welch teams in the early 2010s.

Okot just needs to recognize the double team and kick it back out. She'll learn. Basketball is still a new sport for her.

That sounds easy. In reality, it’s a lot more difficult to do with several defenders swarming around you. The key is recognizing a double team early, preferably before it locks in, then knowing where your best outlet(s) are and then quickly and accurately getting rid of the ball.

For some players it becomes second nature. But others play their entire careers without figuring it out.

We will see on Bama.

Most other teams will have their hands full with Cody and they got a couple of guards.

Typically a well coached team that just doesn't have the horses to make big noise.

I think we've seen Okot play well vs good teams without too much struggle.

I believe part of this game was absence of Latson, who has had a nice two person game with OKot.

Also I think they sagged more off Agot than teams have felt comfortable doing with Latson.

I just think if you're picking your poison you'd probably still choose giving Raven, Agot, and Edwards long jumpers.

Raven's offense has seriously altered the equation for the team though.

L$U couldn't help themselves but it was not the best choice for Fulwiley.

I would have liked for her to pick somewhere that would just let her cook.

Would have been zero hard feelings except she chose maybe the only school that would have taken the FAMs out of her corner.

Hell Texas would have been forgiveable.
I’m honestly kind of tired of talking about Fulwiley, but I do have to admit that there’s a part of me that still thinks she chose LSU to spite Dawn and SC. There was no official visit, and she accepted no calls from any other schools. Some even believe her reps reached out to LSU to gauge interest before she entered the portal. Stuff like that sours the relationship permanently.

I had plans to support Fulwiley after she transferred, but once I heard she was going to LSU, all support went out the door. I don’t dislike the kid, but I could honestly do without ever hearing her being associated with SC again.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fulwiley is looking for yet another home after this season. Her playing situation hasn’t changed for the better at LSU. She’s still coming off the bench. Last night in LSU’s loss to KY she played only 16 minutes, shot 1/6 with 3 fouls and was watching from the bench during crunch time.

Good news: got a W against Florida. Bad news: it was the ugliest thing ever seen. Turnovers (21), poor FG shooting ( too many missed layups to count), poor FT shooting (Helen Keller would have made more), missed defensive assignments… the low point was a 10 second violation bringing the ball up court. It brought tears to a glass eye. Our radio announcers were just short of suicidal.

And yet, we won. We should all go buy lottery tickets tonight.

Bonus: LSU lost again.

Agreed. One of our worst games of the season. I don't think anyone brought their A game. Some players brought their B game but most were even worse than that.

Our radio announcer seems to have been picked out of the Gamecock crowd. Fairly negative in general, but also all over the officials in true Gamecock fashion.

It was not our best effort. Florida tried to out tough us and came semi-close.

Not outcome in doubt close, but the next street over.

We were pretty clearly fatigued and nobody played their best game... well Raven played well anyway.

God I could live on nothing but Mulkey losing press coinferences.

The degree to which her players get thrown under the bus, it's never anything she could have done differently, and there is always some random pettiness.

Today she made two separate bids to label Blake's a "volume shooter" who they did a great job on while giving "credit" to the freshman guard (who was 4-16) they couldn't have anticipated.

The explanation for conference parity: "money" and "NIL" which is rich.

I know I'm late to the party and there are a LOT of ifs, but I just realized South Carolina's post game next year could be insane:
6'7 Alicia Tourbenize
6'6 Madina Okot (if eligible)
6'3 Ashlyn Watkins (if she returns)
6'2 Joyce Edwards
6'2 Chloe Kitts (if healthy from ACL)
6'5 Adhel Tac
6'2 Kaeli Wynn (out injured this season)
6'3 Kelsi Andrews (torn meniscus this year)

The backcourt will be tall too:
6'0 Tessa Johnson
6'0 Jerzy Robinson
6'1 Agot Makeer
6'1 Ayla McDowell
5'9 Maddy McDaniel

Height wise this roster looks to be on par with the massive 2022-23 roster which had 6'7 Cardoso and 6'5 Boston, plus a slew of 6'3 to 6'4 forwards.

Assuming there is a draft, I don’t expect Okot to try. Coming back. She probably has no NIL money coming through Kenya

Agree with this.

I think she should've left the conference. She could be a real star in the ACC (at worst the third-best player, IMO).

Mikayla Blakes is better than any guard on her roster (which is something that Kara figured out this summer and, well, you know the rest), so she can miss me with that crap. She would kill (probably a couple of rattlesnakes) to have a player like Blakes on her roster.

I thought Louisville or NC State were obvious landing spots. The only place in conference that potentially made sense to me was Ole Miss.

I do not have an opinion on her decision but she could benefit from more development.

Could come on a WNBA bench as I think she'd probably make a roster.

... Kentucky, Duke, Baylor. TCU, Texas Tech, SMU, Miami, UVA, Clemson, Maryland...Michigan State, Ohio State USC etc etc etc.
She would butt heads with Kymora Johnson at UVA, so nope. I do think she's more talented than Kymora, though.

SMU is terrible.

Miami or Clemson would be intriguing, though.

I like the possible Louisville fit (didn't she consider them when she was in HS?), but not NC State. Between Brooks and Jones, she would have to pry the ball out of their hands to get off shots.

When does the French kid start playing?
Dawn said something about “administrative paperwork” whatever that means. But I don’t think that Tournebize can officially play until she is actually enrolled in school. SC starts their Spring semester on Monday, January 12, which means that Tournebize could play in the TX game in Columbia on Thursday, January 15, although I would be surprised if Dawn throws her into a game that’s likely to be a war between to heavyweights until she settles in.

She doesn't have to wait until semester starts, but does have to be accepted and enrolled.

dawn threw Kitts out there in first game available. Could happen but think minutes will be limited.
Well, Kitt’s freshman year we were MUCH deeper when the freshies were seniors. Ashlynn Watkins and Feagan were on the bench ahead of her when she arrived. Dauda and TAC don’t quite match those two, so Tournabize MAY get more minutes than Kitts did as a frosh.

Cardoso and Amihere also were first bench options ahead of those three that season so yes a VERY different bench situation now than then. Kitts got in three practices before playing her first game December 18 in a 87-23 blowout of Charleston Southern according to GCO so safe to say they don’t have to wait for official start of the semester for Alicia to play.

Dawn's injury reports are a little sus these days.

Not sure about that day to day report last week on Latson.

Hope so though.

Can't be any worse than what I see from NHL teams. My personal fave is "lower/upper body injury". Like seriously, could you be a tad more specific???? 🤪

I could have sworn that earlier today she said that Latson was practicing with the team but unavailable for the next game.
